    What are you using in your Morning Basket this year? Or do you have questions about how to start one of your own?

      Thanks for this video tour of your latest basket! I have a 15 and 13 year old too so it was really helpful to see how you combine the different ages in one group.

      A combination of your Saints and Seasons for our Saint of the month/hymn/prayer/religious poems. Squilt's monthly schedule for the year, your Explorations series for our fun themed stuff, a study of Maine artists (past and current), random art lessons from your Fall Art lesson list and Winter chalk pastels lessons, and the Fibonacci and Clocks and Calendars for living math. Also "Great Moments in Catholic History" by Newman press. Memory work is IEW poetry and scripture passages I choose. It sounds like a ton, but not all of it every day!

    Loved getting a peek into your plans for this year! We are also reading Augustus Caesar’s World, doing the IEW poetry memorization, and my oldest daughter is right in the middle of Delta long division, ha!

    Looking forward to doing morning baskets for the first time this year. I am working through all of your podcast and RUclips videos. I am highly inspired. My #1 goal this year is to start our mornings different mainly together and not everyone doing their own thing.

    • @PamBarnhill
      @PamBarnhill  4 года назад

      We don't always START together. I have one in there now at 6:55 getting his done while the other two are still asleep. BUT at some point in the morning we will all BE together and it helps our days so much! Good luck.

    This is not only our first year for morning baskets but our first time homeschooling in general, I just wanted to say thank you for the inspiration, and advice... I've literally been following different people and piecing together bits from each one in order to build what looks best for our family. I was especially happy to hear you mention Trello because I have been working with it to keep our unit studies organized... now I will do the same for morning time!!

      Loving Trello! I will have more videos soon on how I use it for my kids' weekly assignment lists!

    I spent the day moving a lot of my stuff to Trello. It seems better than Evernote for set up as a loose lesson planner, so I hope it works well! Thank you for the inspiration!

    I'm not nearly as organized you, Pam, because I like to pull in new materials as I'm inspired. We started out with 4 texts (Hurlbut's Bible story book; Foxe: Voice of the Martyrs; Under God by Toby Mac & Michael Tait; Farmer Boy; memory work from Playful Pioneers) but then I have been adding a little bit more each day. I love MT!!!! It's my favorite part of homeschooling. We didn't call it MT growing up, but my homeschool experience in the 80s/90s had a similar activity and it was my favorite part of homeschooling.

    Looks fabulous as always!!! Thanks for sharing!! I’m homeschooling high school for the 1st time! I’ll have 9th, 7th, and special needs 4th. In AL, it looks like world history is required for 9th grade-not sure if I’m correct??? However, can your MT medieval plans your doing this year meet the 9th grade AL requirements? Thanks! Looking forward to a fun school year! We love all you do!!!

    • @PamBarnhill
      @PamBarnhill  4 года назад +1

      Remember Renee -- there are no official AL requirements for high school. Your cover might require something. Mine does not. Get creative. I would say that our medieval plans with a spine and some good middle ages reading would be fantastic for a 9th grade year of history.

      Thanks, Pam!
      Our covering places no requirements, so it looks like we’re good to go! Thank you again for the tips and help! Have a blessed school year with your cuties!!

    What is the "boxar?" that you mentioned your kids used for narration? I think it sounds like something my kids would enjoy.

    Love all your resources! Morning basket is my kids favorite part of the day. If I try to skip out (because we are short on time) I have a mutiny on my hands.

    • @PamBarnhill
      @PamBarnhill  4 года назад

      It's easier just to skip the OTHER parts. They don't mind that 😂

    I am trying to start a morning basket this year as there are 2 kids now (foster adoption finalized two weeks ago) a 3.5 year old and a 9 year old. I am trying to figure out how to make it work and what to do with the little one, to keep him engaged, and listening, but also tying in the older one. Any ideas?

    Is there any way you could create a template and share it with us so we dont have to start all from scratch?? Yikes, I want to do this but dont know where to begin

    Hi Pam! Do you use trello in place of your morning binder? Or do you still use your binder also? I’m debating on using trello and if I do, whether I need a binder anymore or not. Thanks for your time!

    • @PamBarnhill
      @PamBarnhill  3 года назад

      Nope I still have the binder. All of my memory work is in there so I still need it!

    Thanks for sharing! I’d really like to know more about Trello... I’ve never done MT with a computer nearby so links I usually grab with my phone but they’re not always at the ready and I lose their attention when I turn to searching my phone. I do have a morning time folder in my notes app and try to put things in there but haven’t managed “all the things.” Yet! But that Trello looks like the best of both worlds. Is it free, easy to set up?? I’ve got 7 kids in my MT/homeschool so... it’s a real challenge for me; that’s why I ask.

    • @debbie9523

      It is a walkie-talkie app where you can leave voice messages for people that they can listen to later.

  • @catholichickens

    Pam, how long did it take you to learn Trello? It seems really complicated to get all that stuff loaded in there!

    • @PamBarnhill
      @PamBarnhill  4 года назад +1

      catholichickens I guess I have used boards set up by others so that helps. I am not a power user by any means. Maybe I can do a tutorial?

    • @debbie9523
      @debbie9523 4 года назад

      I just started and it's fairly easy; the animated stickers are fun so don't be distracted! There's a little learning curve with how labels and moving items work, but the checklists within a card (subject) are great. You can create an entire card and copy it or just label it to be moved. The addition of links and photos is great! I had set up our subjects in different colored folders, so I also labeled the Trello cards with that color. Now I just really need to find some STURDY book containers as hubby displaced us from our school room of 15+ years and I am working out of my new "nest/office" in the "sitting area" of the master bedroom! I have these GREAT crates from textbook suppliers when I taught about 30 years ago, but I need more than the two I have and I am sure they don't make them, let alone sell them - everything for sale looks so flimsy. One step at a time!

    Do you have a set time for each reading loop and try to get as many readings as you can from that loop for that day, or try to get through a set numbers of readings pr day.

    • @PamBarnhill
      @PamBarnhill  4 года назад

      My goal is one chapter for the mythology book, two chapters (they are short) from the history book, and then one chapter from a book in the reading loop.
      The Bible chapters are short sections so we usually do a few of those. The Election book sections are LONG, but we had great conversations. I may start breaking those up.
      I need to count the chapters again and see if we can get through them all by November if I do. Then when we start Plutarch those sections are much shorter and very meaty -- a little will go a long way.
