I’m excited to try this with my 8 and 9 year old. I think having them estimate the time and then set the timer will work the best! They tend to rush through work and either do sloppy work or make simple mistakes

It's 8pm and my son JUST finished his work and its just a couple of pages! He doesn't focus and wastes so much time. I really hope this helps...

I’m glad I’m not the only person having this problem 😃😜🤯 I have 10yr old twins with ADHD and there is no perfect answer

Ohhhhhhh....... like a school bell. thanks for the tip.

Well not really. A school bell marks time and the length never changes. A class period is always an arbitrary, set amount of time that would usually be too long a period for focused work - especially for younger kids. What you are doing here is working with your kids and their ability to focus.

I seriously just bought a pack of timers off Amazon a few hours ago just for this purpose. :) Plan was if they're finished early they get "free time" until the timer goes off. Thanks for the tips. I may need to use them.

I've been using a timer with my 14yo for a few years now. Works great!

It is so fun (and handy) that it works for so many different ages.

Unfortunately I have one who a timer does not work for. ☹️ He hyper-focuses on the time counting down and cannot get the work don’t. I’m trying to just get him to work I’m blocks of time but even at 18 I still have to prompt. It’s a definite concern for us as parents because we are trying to prepare him for accountability in the work force.

Is music distracting for him? Maybe instead of a timer, play a few pieces of classical music that would last about the amount of time he needs to work.
