    Its tricky to be higher cover for frendly that is attacking enemy airplane (if its only 2 of you vs 1, not 3 like in your first case), as you have to be in position to asist if frendly make mistake, look around for enemy who will see tracers from your frend (or is tm8 of guy under attack) and probably go for him, and also look at your 6 to not get bounced. So usealy all that is imposible to do 100%, and then if your enemy and see this situation, high cover guy is usealy good target, as hes probably not gona be able to see you coming, but if you attack guy low shooting his high cover would have good chance to see that and warn him and go for you. So the faster encounter ends the better chances to not get bounced.

    Great to see those negative G bump manauvers and comments on when to cut the throttle during the roll. Great video as always Req! (quick question - do you use a graphics rendering program like ReShade? Your colors looks pretty optimum for spotting bandits)

    • @RequiemsACTL
      @RequiemsACTL  5 лет назад +3

      Cheers Mat, no I don't use any external stuff like Reshade although I did try it out years ago. I use ultra settings for the most part with blurred landscape and no SSAO with Gamma at 0.8. I think it's the gamma which makes the sim look better and help with spotting. For me...higher gamma settings tend to just wash out how the sim looks.

    Luftwaffe rules are saying, always flying left hand turns over friendly AF, also at Luzi-Anton (Landing-Approach)

    • @RequiemsACTL
      @RequiemsACTL  5 лет назад +1

      If it was in RL then yeah I would adhere to more stringent rules as generally speaking you will do left turns in the pattern at the majority of airports unless airspace or terrain is an issue. Normal circumstances I wouldn't even have landed LOL After I started turning final I would have had to go around then come back due to the guy on the runway and the other guy on short final. I had to get off the PC though so it was just...get it down ASAP and don't hit anything :-)

Really liked the break turn on the runway heading and approach to landing. Wish more people would do this, especially on WoL!

      Yeah super nice guy, I've really enjoyed the times I've flown with him :-) I don't see many people landing that way either, which is kind of why I elected to show the landing as part of this video! I have a tutorial out there already on how to do this "initial and pitch" or "run and break" but it's always fun to do one.

    I can't understand. To me it didn't look like doing Air Combat.

    • @RequiemsACTL
      @RequiemsACTL  4 года назад +1

      There is a lot more to air combat than just crazy maneuvers with lots and lots of kills. Working together as a team, decision making, all that stuff can be more important too because if you don't do those right then you're more likely to be shot down than be the one doing the shooting.

    • @RequiemsACTL
      @RequiemsACTL  4 года назад +1

      Yeah I understand what you mean. The airplane you fly affects how you experience the combat side of things. The Bf 109 has the luxury of dictating the fight to a lot of airplanes, so it's easy to just fly as a target to keep the bandit interested so my wingman can attack him. The zero has to rely on it's turn fighting ability which makes flying it a lot more fast paced.

    I fly il2 or DCS in VR mode only now. I can barely see the rare end of my plane . I hurt my right shoulder two days ago when I was struggling to spot the guy who was shooting at me from the behind. I had to take a few painkillers to stop the pain(didn't work btw)
    Usually I don't know if or what is on me until be fired upon,then I just do a belly roll & spit my ass to the ground and hope for the best:" Is he still on me?" "Ah SHIT!!"
    if I was one of those WWII pilots,I would keep a mirror in my pocket all the time.

    I was very surprised that that MiG got in that close completely unseen, though it is easy to miss planes when padlocked. Part of the reason I like reviewing tracks is to see all the bandits I missed during the sortie. If the MiG had a bit better S/A he could have slotted in on Stunner instead and might have had an easy kill, but it appears that luckily for you he was as padlocked as you were. You did an excellent job in the rolling scissors to force the Mig to overshoot and bravo to Stunner for scoring hits chasing someone in a scissors. That is a hard shot to make. I would say that after Stunner overshoots the Mig slightly his turn back into the bandit was too flat. If he had come more vertical it would have given him a better position closer to the 6 of the Mig and with less closing speed so he may have gotten a tracking shot instead of a snap shot. May have ended that fight right then.
    The second engagement was beautiful. That lead turn was something to see. You're absolutely correct in saying that most people would have gone for the shot instead of taking the position for a better shot and that is why many are simply average. You had next to no chance of getting a clean kill with a high angle blind attack from your position but your intercept turned a nearly impossible shot into child's play. I have not seen many intercepts of that caliber.As for the 3rd engagement you made a very good entry into that fight and had excellent gunnery but I have to say that I winced a bit when I saw you turn away from Stunner like that.
    Another great video, mate! If I could get clearance from my own "CO" to go flying I'd love to wing up sometime.

    • @RequiemsACTL
      @RequiemsACTL  5 лет назад

      Hey Barton. I agree with everything you said for sure. When I was looking at Tacview I was thinking the same things and about how long it took to see the MiG in particular. While I was flying I was kind of in disbelief at how close he ended up LOL Glad you appreciate the second engagement though. Lead turns are probably the most "boring" thing to do as they aren't fancy but they have great potential to gain advantages in a fight very quickly. The third engagement I definitely rushed it as I was about to RTB at the time when I saw what was going on, but at least when I turned away from Stunner I provided the callouts relative to me and to him as to where to go. Stunner is very good so he was able to figure it out :-) I'd probably embarrass myself flying Axis fighters as I'm far from an "experten" on those airplanes because I really don't get an opportunity to fly them much (probably done more ground attack in a Bf110 than fighters honestly), but if you ever get clearance one day send me a PM and we can sort a time to wing up in a 109 or 190! I'd be interested in learning some techniques from those who know better like yourself :-)

    • @th3lunchb0x
      @th3lunchb0x 5 лет назад

      @@RequiemsACTL I wouldn't say I "know better." It is easy to point out mistakes and better ways of doing things in debriefings, which is why I do them myself, but much harder to avoid making them in the moment. It is rare that I have a sortie where I don't make some mistake and you are quite good at handling yourself in a 109. Your rolling scissors was fantastic and that is something that a lot of people don't understand fully (they would, it they watched your video). I will definitely send you a PM when I get time to fly one of these upcoming weekends

  • @TheRaptorXX
    @TheRaptorXX 5 лет назад +1

    Another beaut Req! You could end up using a helluva lot more editing time if you keep using Axis planes with all that ammo!!
