I enjoyed my day trip to Gneizno, so much history there! Also, my son (who has lived in Poland for 6 years now) cautioned me to ALWAYS cross the street at the crosswalk, and that they take that very seriously in Poland. In the US I always cross the street anywhere if it looks safe. I enjoy your videos, keep them coming!

A bit late, but i would look around and if there is no police around just walk other side.
And about law, you can cross the road outside the crossing if the nearest one is at least 100m away, but as you know, if police doesn't see this, they wouldn't hunt you.

Forgive my Colleague, but pedestrian crossings are not made at the turn, so that there is better visibility for You and the driver.
These are the usual safety rules. In Poland, you can pay a fine for passing in forbidden places.

Gniezno was the first capital of Poland. Kraków was second and of coarse the current capital is Warsaw.

Learn a history kid! There was Poznań and Płock between Gniezno and Kraków. The first capital of the Polans was Giecz. The capital city of Gniezno is undermined by contemporary excavations. The rule was: where the prince is, there is the capital. Mieszko and Chrobry built more impressive buildings in Poznań. They were also buried there, as was the later king Przemysł II. There is no mention anywhere in written historiography that Gniezno was the capital. Gniezno was the seat of the bishopric.

Nothing is left of the old center of Gniezno. It was destroyed by a fire in the 19th century. Is Gniezno the oldest city in Poland? It's definitely not. The oldest city that travelers write about on the Amber Trail was Kalisz. Historical research shows that the most important town of Polans (The Western Polans, the tribe that gave rise to Polish statehood) was Giecz. In the Middle Ages there was a rule: where the ruler is, there is the capital. Today it is known that Gniezno was the seat of the bishopric. The seat of the ruler was Poznań. Nowhere are there any written records from that period that Gniezno was the capital city. This is how it is commonly assumed. It has to do with a legend. There were three brothers: Czech, Rus and Lech. They have gone to different parts of the world. Lech saw a large white eagle's nest in a tree and built his capital there. The word "gniazdo" in English is called nest. Gniezno comes from the word nest.

Nothing is left of the old centre of Gniezno - it is not true. Almost all of the old churches survive the fire in the 19th century. Besides Giecz you forget to mention Ostrow Lednicki and Grzbowo. The seat of the ruler was Poznań (very short - 2 years). Gniezno was the most important city in 1000 A.D. In Gniezno kings were crowned and that is why Poles recognize it as the first capital of Poland.

@@yakeosicki8965 I have not told that Gniezno was the first capital, but why is now recognize as first capital. Poznań do a lot to be the first capital... As you mentioned the capital was where kings was - and that is true.
