I think your over estimating the age of most of us that were playing FF7 when it came out lol most of us we kids to teens, so maybe some 40 year olds, but it's mainly people in their 30s. 50 year olds gonna like it too but not as many of them, as most of that generation "grew out" of games, it was look at as kid/nerd stuff by most people that age.

The only time eikon fire ever did incineration damage was in the prologue of the game, then it just became attack dressing until the end of the game. And we don't even know if Ultima's weakness was fire or not so it could've been just really effective against that one boss fight. Cloud canonically fought the weapons which were basically kaiju bioweapons.

Yes in some ways but ultima ultimately is the false God of that world for God would not allow his creation to kill him for 1 and 2, clouds access and abilities truly surpass Clives in several different ways. Don't get me wrong both are my 2 favorite protagonists then Noctis, but omnislash, the fusion sword, teleportation abilities and direct connection to Gaia and fate itself thru the lifestream/mako makes cloud, to me, the better of the two aside from his emotional collapse. He's the embodiment of himself, his best friend, foe, and the summons he commands. Yes Clive has several shared abilities I named that cloud has but cmon, 4 different bahamut forms, knights of the round, and technically jenova, as well as his abilities from limit breaks, had he allowed the darkness to consume him. Clive has a vastly larger pool of skills than Cloud which makes the whole fight impossible for Cloud to win. If we add allies into the mix for both sides, It would still be Clive's team in a landslide. Youve got Torgal, a wolf that has an eikon (don't remember which), Jill who has Shiva, and if we want to add the deceased then we have Cid and Joshua which puts Ramuh and Phoenix on the table, and I forgot who has Bahamut. Cloud's group may have an advantage in numbers, but that doesn't help with the insane power gap between the two groups. I honestly see them teaming up to be more likely than them going for each other's throats though.

Clive killed the god who created him and his world in his final form all by himself. He has been given infinite power ever since he was born, but he only realized this later on in his life. Even though Clive’s sole purpose of existing was to get stronger using this power so that the god, Ultima, could consume him, he eventually became even more powerful than his own creator. It is crazy how the power of a man in his 20’s grew exponentially at such a fast rate, that it was eventually able to surpass that of a being infinitely older than him. Just imagine how powerful Clive would be if he had realized his true potential earlier in his life. Not to mention that he consumed Ultima’s power and reset his universe at the end of the game. I’ve only played ff7 remake, so I haven’t seen Cloud in his prime yet, but Clive sound too hard for him to beat.
I agree. I find Clive to be the better protagonist, not just because of his power, but also because of his personality. However, a proper comparison will be possible after FFVII Remake part 3 comes out and we see how Cloud grows in this new version.

Clive is the strongest FF protagonist to date. FF16 summons are used as the powers to move nations. FF7 summons arent as destructive or remotely powerful. Look at the sheer size of these beasts. You think one avalanche platoon could defeat them? Titan would trample midgar is sheer seconds. FF7 100% my fave but thr power scaling is bonkers. FF16 is ridiculous.
Clive is by far more skilled and powerful than Cloud. Just by seeing FFXVI eikons vs FF7 summons you can see that the battles are on a different power level

Clive is older with more battle experience With about 18 years Of straight battle experience compared To Cloud's Like 8 or 9 I think as Cloud is like 24 and Clive is about 32 by the end of The game. Clive also can turn into one of the strongest Eikons

Heres a lil something to put into perspective for all the people who think cloud stands a chance: So cloud has these summons, right? He uses materia to summon em, and then they fight alongside him, using their super strong abilities. Clive can use these powers at will. He effectively absorbs the powers of these summons in ff16 and can use abilites such as megaflare and gigaflare-some of the most powerful magic spells in the final fantasy universe-AT WILL. And dont forget that clive can literally TRANSFORM into one of these summons that cloud uses also AT WILL! And guys, im not biased. I played both games and loved em!
This is a toughie. Clive's powers are very strong, but similar to the ones Cloud has with his summons. Cloud also has way better spells. That said, Knights of the Round would likely end the fight before it began. I love 16 and Clive, but I just don't see him winning. I grew up on 7 though so I am bias for sure lol.
Cloud in the original, when leveled correctly, could solo literally any eikon equivalent summon in his own game AND took down Sephiroth's final forms which were capable of destroying entire solar systems and creating black holes... so no. Clive doesn't win.

My only real counter to that is with the abilities noctis gets (limited magic, flight, super strength , warp, and summoning) Clive can do all of those things except summon, because he IS the summon and would just transform and wreck whoever noctis decides to summon forth. I do actually really like noctis though I feel FF15 gets a lot of unnecessary hate

Yes in some ways but ultima ultimately is the false God of that world for God would not allow his creation to kill him for 1 and 2, clouds access and abilities truly surpass Clives in several different ways. Don't get me wrong both are my 2 favorite protagonists then Noctis, but omnislash, the fusion sword, teleportation abilities and direct connection to Gaia and fate itself thru the lifestream/mako makes cloud, to me, the better of the two aside from his emotional collapse. He's the embodiment of himself, his best friend, foe, and the summons he commands. Yes Clive has several shared abilities I named that cloud has but cmon, 4 different bahamut forms, knights of the round, and technically jenova, as well as his abilities from limit breaks, had he allowed the darkness to consume him. If Clive really wins this comparison it should've been like 14-12/13 not 6 IMO

In the litteral sense. He defeated the creator of his universe by himself and then absorbed his power. The reason he dies is because he decided to remove all magic from the world which caused his body to decay and turn into stone. I'm not even taking in count him defeating bahamut because that wasn't even his best feat. And don't say Something like "but Cloud can use ifrit too" because we both know that it's not the same. Seeing his childhood crush cut down right in front of him, watching his mother gets murder before his eyes and after that subjected to torture and all kinds of experiments for 5 years then having his only friend get gunned down right in front of him. Cloud has been through a lot of pain throughout his life that caused his mental breakdown. Lastly he is far from a mid soldier. He’s the second strongest after Sephiroth.

Clive has a vastly larger pool of skills than Cloud which makes the whole fight impossible for Cloud to win. If we add allies into the mix for both sides, It would still be Clive's team in a landslide. Youve got Torgal, a wolf that has an eikon (don't remember which), Jill who has Shiva, and if we want to add the deceased then we have Cid and Joshua which puts Ramuh and Phoenix on the table, and I forgot who has Bahamut. Cloud's group may have an advantage in numbers, but that doesn't help with the insane power gap between the two groups. I honestly see them teaming up to be more likely than them going for each other's throats though.

Which is why he seemed genuinely surprised the first time cloud defeated him with pure adrenaline without even being injected with mako or jenova cells. I'm going off memory alone tho and I think hopefully they will explore more of this in rebirth..

Clive killed the god who created him and his world in his final form all by himself. He has been given infinite power ever since he was born, but he only realized this later on in his life. Even though Clive’s sole purpose of existing was to get stronger using this power so that the god, Ultima, could consume him, he eventually became even more powerful than his own creator. It is crazy how the power of a man in his 20’s grew exponentially at such a fast rate, that it was eventually able to surpass that of a being infinitely older than him. Just imagine how powerful Clive would be if he had realized his true potential earlier in his life. Not to mention that he consumed Ultima’s power and reset his universe at the end of the game. I’ve only played ff7 remake, so I haven’t seen Cloud in his prime yet, but Clive sound too hard for him to beat.

I agree. I find Clive to be the better protagonist, not just because of his power, but also because of his personality. However, a proper comparison will be possible after FFVII Remake part 3 comes out and we see how Cloud grows in this new version.

Clive is the strongest FF protagonist to date. FF16 summons are used as the powers to move nations. FF7 summons arent as destructive or remotely powerful. Look at the sheer size of these beasts. You think one avalanche platoon could defeat them? Titan would trample midgar is sheer seconds. FF7 100% my fave but thr power scaling is bonkers. FF16 is ridiculous.
Clive is by far more skilled and powerful than Cloud. Just by seeing FFXVI eikons vs FF7 summons you can see that the battles are on a different power level

Very similar but at the same time diametrally opposite.
Heres a lil something to put into perspective for all the people who think cloud stands a chance:
So cloud has these summons, right? He uses materia to summon em, and then they fight alongside him, using their super strong abilities. Clive can use these powers at will. He effectively absorbs the powers of these summons in ff16 and can use abilites such as megaflare and gigaflare-some of the most powerful magic spells in the final fantasy universe-AT WILL. And dont forget that clive can literally TRANSFORM into one of these summons that cloud uses also AT WILL! And guys, im not biased. I played both games and loved em!
This is a toughie. Clive's powers are very strong, but similar to the ones Cloud has with his summons. Cloud also has way better spells. That said, Knights of the Round would likely end the fight before it began. I love 16 and Clive, but I just don't see him winning. I grew up on 7 though so I am bias for sure lol.

How easily Clive wins depends on which version of cloud he’s facing original FF 7 or Advent Children
