OK so to explain to the non Chinese speakers what the dialogue is all about. In a nutshell, this appears to be AFTER the Journey to the West Story. It seems that after protecting Tang Sanzang and returning with the Scriptures, he was granted a Buddhahood title (as per the original story) but he rejected the title and just wanted to retire in peace and freedom back in Flower and Fruit mountain (his birthplace and home). However, the 'Gods' dont seem to be letting him go off on his own and sent the army you see to 'flatten Flower Fruit mountain and kill all the monkeys there'. This is claimed in Wukong's dialogue but of course we see later that the Monkeys survived (maybe they decided not to proceed after Wukong was defeated?). So Wukong is pissed and decides to fight them all. After Wukong is defeated and turned into that rock, the old monkey recounts the above story to the younger monkeys few hundred years later. Note that this is supposed to be a tale told by the old monkey, so how much of it is true, maybe the game will tell.

This is the fight that happens before he gets trapped under the mountain so either this is before the journey to the west where he meets the monk or he is fighting the heavenly army yet again. Who he had defeated them all previously so it's to wait and see the full game to really know, but regardless he doesn't have the golden headband on here

After Erlang Shen grew up and found out his mom was imprisoned, he fought the heaven army, like wukong, to free his mom, his background story could be potentially another good IP 😂. If you are interested in Chinese mythology, there are a lot of great stories waiting for you to find out. Until now, we still celebrate a lot of festivals in China, and each festival has its mythology. Like 8/20 is wukong's birthday in lunar calendar. 😉

The axe has its origin in Chinese mythology. Erlang shen used axe to cut the mountain to free his mother who, as the sister of the jade emperor, secretly married a mortal man then was imprisoned under a mountain.

After being imprisoned for 500 years, the monk called Tang Seng found him and released him, on the journey to India for Buddhism holy book. By the way, Tang Seng is a figure that exist in history.

The new Monkey could be Wukong's avatar or reincarnation, but it's still a new story. The original Journey to the West have been represented way too many times imo, it's smart to do something new.

When I realize what's happening, this all "black myth" thing immediately makes sense now.
The actual Sun Wukong got defeated after the journey to the west and was as dead as it can be. The destined one is other monkey who were probably expected by his people to retain Sun Wukong's soul and hopefully bring him back. Thus, it would make sense why the destined one saw Sun Wukong in a very early demo video. We might also be able to take a guess on how would Sun Wukong make this come back. Maybe the destined one finished his job and he effectively becomes the next Sun Wukong and completed what has been left by his predecessor, i.e., destroy the heaven (this is pretty much the same concept what Kratos is doing in GoW).

Kratos holds no candle on Wukong. Period. Monkey King have achieve Nirvana. While Kratos havent reach it universe level yet. The debate is over. Wukong > Kratos.

Erlang Shen (Yang Jian, the strongest fighter in the heaven in Chinese mythology) is the nephew of the Emperor of Heaven. He is the child of Yang Tianyou, a Buddhist, and the Emperor of Heaven's sister. The Emperor of Heaven was very unhappy because his sister was deceived by Buddhists to give birth to a child, so he imprisoned his sister under a mountain. In order to save his mother, Erlang Shen used this axe to split the prison where his mother was imprisoned and rescued her.
Erlang Shen's fighting power can be regarded as Lu Bu in the game Dynasty Warriors. He is the strongest fighter, and his real strength exceeds Wukong.
Erlang Shen is a Daluo Jinxian, while Wukong is only a Taiyi Jinxian. Wukong is one level lower than Erlang Shen and is a god with higher strength. Wukong can only be regarded as a medium god in Chinese mythology, much worse than Erlang Shen.

This is exactly the way I wanted the story to deviate/continue from the original Journey to the West! I am so hyped now!
The game story takes place after Sun Wukong helped Tang Sanzang to obtain the true scriptures. Sun Wukong himself likes freedom. He resigned from his position as a god and wanted to return to his hometown to reunite with his monkeys and grandchildren, but the gods and Buddha were afraid of his character and wanted to completely kill him and his children. The reason why Sun Wukong died was because he was framed by the gods and Buddha because of the golden hoop on his head. The golden hoop was supposed to be taken away after he completed the mission of obtaining the scriptures. So the gods and Buddhas are evil. Sun Wukong's descendants (the character you play) defeated the evil gods and Buddhas and collected six things to revive Sun Wukong.
