Cool, very similar to the Rickenbacker that George bought when he went to visit his sister in Illinois (though I recall he had the shop refinish it in black).

Yeah. When playing live, he usually mimicked the 5-4-5-6-7-- riff on the A string instead (overdubbed on the recording).

    • @richardk1ify

Maybe the Country Gentleman with the strings at the time was harder to bend?

Electro was Rickenbacker's lower-level brand...sort of like Gibson and Epiphone (though I wouldn't describe Epiphone back when they were made in Kalamazoo as a budget line). They were made in the same factory.

@@louisaccardi2268 Listen to all my loving or happy just to dance with you, John's guitar is very bright, with not much bottom end.
And recording tech in the early 60's couldnt capture bass frequencies all that well either, hence why the bass was so murky until paperback writer.
Later beatles songs had the guitars mixed much fuller.
As for George's part on this song, he used a rick, which is naturally brighter sounding than the gretsch guutar you might be used to seeing being played.
Also what does guitar effects have to do with anything? We're talking about EQ and mixing.

@@riogrande163 I remember when I first heard the Beatles songs like I want to hold your hand, and she loves you, I was floored at how full their sound was. It was that which got me into playing guitar when I was 15 years old. I would agree with you about some of the low end not being as great compared to what we have now. Yes you're right about that.
