      I also had a leak from my washer fluid pump and was getting ready to use the fix you used. Upon further inspection, I think that port on the side is designed to let out any fluid that gets past the seal from backing up into the motor. I'm fairly certain the internal seal will continue to leak and fill the inside of the motor with water.
      Just wondering how your pump motor fared after sealing the leak.

    For those who want to fix this issue, I'd recommend removing the pump, drying it, clean it well and apply a liquid epoxy. Ensure the small cavity near the crack is blocked to prevent the epoxy from entering the pump. This will ensure the pump never leaks from this area again.
    True the JB water weld works on wet surfaces, but not on wet surfaces which have a detergent based product wetting it.

    I was so excited when I saw this video. I did mine but leak came back after about 2 months. After did more research, I found the replacement part from Amazon for only $11 (just search 'Windshield Washer Pump for BMW E90').Just ordered the new pump. I would not patch the leak if I knew the replacement part is so cheap....

  • @CosminRotaru

    Yes, it's broken seal. The pump is design so the water drips out instead of going on the electrical side. It's a safety feature and the pump must be replaced!

    Thanks for the tips. This tackles the problem for good. A new pump will leak again. Might be a o ring inside i glued the cavity. There is also another place it can leak from the feed into the tank. O ring there but that is above the sensor so it is the pump for me

    Thanks for the video, appreciate the info. But for those considering it vs swapping in a new pump - evaluate the possibility of having to go back in, tear out/clean up the JB Water Weld, and swapping out the pump anyway if the JB Weld doesn’t hold. I tried the JB Weld, looked fine no leak after 20 minutes and put everything back together. Saw a drip or two the next morning, then when I actually used the pump it started leaking heavily. For the afternoon, I was pretty concerned the JB Weld was permanent and would be super difficult to remove. I went in the next day and it came off without much difficulty - if you look at reviews on the product, they’re mixed. Just something to consider, since you’re doing 90% of the work already at this point, you may consider spending $30 on a new pump and swapping.

    I had the same issue applied the same product twice and still have the same issue. I ended up wasting about a week and also had to remove the reservoir twice. Your best bet if you have this issue is to spend about 20 bucks in parts for the pump and strainer to replace everything. Save yourself the headache.

    • @TSPhotoAtlanta
      @TSPhotoAtlanta 4 года назад +1

      These parts are built to last only an exact length of time. You’re right, replace the d*** pump motoer & strainer, save time== money in the long haul.

    Good video but for that much trouble, replace everything! New pump is $18... reservoir with filler about 20 on eBay. Don't do it twice... jb weld is good where it's easy to get to in case the fix does not work (with my luck will be doing it twice). BMW has to make something so simple as a windshield washer pump hard to get to!

  • @battlehrfred
    @battlehrfred 3 года назад +1

    It is a good and detailed video for removal and installation, ty! Personally, I feel If the pump is leaking from that plastic housing on the pump itself, the seal in the pump is failing and doing this type of repair may not last because now the ww fluid will have nowhere to leak out and the fluid will now leak inside of the electrical pump and it will fail in time. ty

    empty the reservoir first before you put on JB weld, don’t refill the tank until the putty is cured(>1hr), otherwise it’ll leak again under pressure

    also, remember to retrieve the insert pin that hold up the plastic clip if it drops
