Yes, my wonderful husband surprised me with a 8-QT. Instant Pot for Christmas!! I've told him for 43 years....."Don't get me any small kitchen appliances for Christmas"!! But my kids have told me how much they love it - so I broke down and asked him, and he bought me one!! My first thing to cook - - - chicken (whole) vegetable/noodle soup. Oh My Goodness, it came out so good!! Like my Mom used to make it! But before I started my first time at the Instant Pot, I found you on RUclips (after watching 8 tutorials that made me crazy listening to! You were so right on the spot and it was easy to follow your lead. Thank you so much for your great idea's. Glad I found you too!!

I just got my instantpot two days ago and i really appreciate that people like you make very helpful and informative videos like this to help other people with their questions and concerns. The first thing i am going to be cooking is a pot roast tomorrow and i didn't even know until this video that you could do mashed potatoes and boiled eggs in this thing. I have a feeling i will be coming back often to this channel. thank you for the time you put in to making this video to help us who haven't used one yet.

A mash potato hint- add the salt to the potatoes and water before you cook them, they will need less salt later and will be evenly seasoned. Also add evaporated milk for a creamier potato instead of regular milk. 😉 you are doing a great job with your instructional videos. Thank you!

A little tip for doing rice. If you put your rice and oil in first, stir the rice around to coat all of the grains in the oil, and then add the water, the rice comes out fluffier and doesn't tend to clump together.

Curious. Mexican white rice is sauteed in oil with chopped onion then cook the regular way. Wonder if that would work with this recipe? Saute then pressure cook the rice?? Just a thought..

Just sauté your onions & rice in the IP,

Give it a try & see. Bet you’ll love it🎈

Try spaghetti squash. You don’t have to cut it or prick it. Just put it in the pot on the rack and add a cup of water. Cook on high for 15 minutes. When it is done there is usually a split and you can cut it. Then the shell just lifts right off and you can shred your squash. SO EASY!

I do all the soups and stews in IP. If you want you can use the sauté function for the onion, garlic, roast some meat. I did fresh pork ribs (underneath skin removed) boiled in 1cup water and 2 cups apple juice, 15 min in the IP. Remove them from the IP. Put the ribs in a tray with a rack. While the ribs were boiling, I do some barbecue sauce (tomato sauce/paste, a little brown sugar and smoked paprika). I use a brush to spread the sauce over the ribs and put them in the oven for 10-15 min at 200 Celsius, check them, as burning can occur due to sugar. That is not at all healthy. When I steam potatoes for mashed potato I use the rack, as I dump the boiling water.

TIP: Today I put leftover cornbread (from a couple days ago) that was dried out, into the Instant Pot in a steamer basket with 1 cup of water in the bottom of the vessel, and put on manual setting for zero minutes, and did a Q.R. I'm really confused...
I use Pressure Cookers... because I had a Restaurant...
(this is years ago)... My Pressure Cooker cooks way much
fast than this Instant Pot... I don't understand why, since I thought
this was a Pressure Cooker too... I'm like you, I let it steam off naturally.
Can you explain why this Instant Pot takes so much longer to cook than
    an original Pressure Cooker?
Thank you for sharing this video.

Good beginner instructions for the instant pot newbie. I have looked at a few of your videos and all nice and simply explained. Thanks. Being from the UK I am waiting for the Plus 8 to come out over here as it for me is a big investment and that is the one worth waiting for imo. Mashed potato tip. Being a fussy mashed potato lover I find mashed potates with mixer too gluey in texture when mixed thoroughly and too lumpy if not mixed enough. A hand masher. although definitely produces a much nicer texture. is hard work if like me one wants lump free. The best and easiest method for me is through a ricer and then if I want creamed add milk and butter to the mash and just briefy mix and fluff up with a fork. Perfect fluffy lump free mashed potatoes every time without the effort :)

I've had mine for months and not sure I even got the vacuum seal or pop up steam release right bc the directions that came with IP basically suck. Love the IP but not the directions which need to be much more detailed with pics of how to do the important things but read that it will say LID if that isn't right. Ok so my instant pot is my go too cooking device. I hate heating up my house now that we have jumped from winter to forest fire season.. So my go to recipes are beef and chicken tamales. BBQ pork shoulder country ribs or butt, Greenbeans ham and new potatoes. Yankee Pot Roast. Chicken Pot Pie Filling and Beef Stew. All of these are easy to make and so you know about any slow cooker recipe can be converted to a instant pot. 30-40 minutes for meat dishes and natural release. 15 for chicken dishes. I've even made chicken and gnochi in it. It is possible to do a quick biscuit and gravy dish in it too with out all the fuss if your serving a big crowed. I suggest adding a little bit of light miso mixed with the water to get a prettier frozen chicken breast. It will give it a more appetizing color and a little bit of extra flavor.

I LOVE my “Instant Pot”. I call it the magic cooking machine. One thing that I do different with potatoes that’s AMAZING is I don’t peel and chopped. I wash them, score them and throw them in with a cup of water. They peel soooooooo easy. I do a batch so I can make mashed potatoes and reserve some without peeling, put them in the fridge and have them ready for home fries if I need to or potato salad. I sometimes throw in whole sweet potatoes with them to. I love my magic cooking machine.

@@thehomeplatespecial597 Best way to fix those already cooked potatoes from fridge are to cut them into the right french fry shape, then lower them for 3 minutes in batches into the hot oil, pull them out - let sit (drain) - (for however long, but for at least I'd say 15 - 20 mins) - then put them in the oil prior to serving for the final cook, til they're golden. That's the BEST way to make fries.

Thanks for taking the time to demonstrate the use of the instant pot by cooking the 5 easiest things. I especially appreciate the bean cooking demo. Beans & rice pudding would be my number one reason for purchasing one. I'm a bean lover who hates canned beans, but I noticed your pinto beans didn't appear to have a very thick broth when finished. I guess that's a disadvantage of using instant pot vs say a crockpot or a cast iron dutch oven? I really like a thick bean broth with tender beans. Anyway, I have been sitting on the fence in terms of whether to buy an instant pot. I'm sure it's an advantageous appliance in a large, busy household where someone's always hungry, but as a single person-- I don't know. It seems to me it comes down to whether you want the food prepared right or fast. Thanks again!

For extra flavor, trade out the water for chicken or beef stock. Great video. Thank you.

How about some details? Please! Like, how much of each ingredient and how long did you cook and at what setting? The "devil" is in the details, don't you know?

I would love to know why sometimes you say you let the steam release naturally, versus letting it out by flipping the "steam release" to release it instantly! So WHY let it release naturally sometimes, and also WHEN do I know when to release the steam manually VS. letting it release on it's own?
    Thanks! :)
    Lauren

Most grains and beans you want to release naturally so it allows them to still cook/soften while it is cooling down (it's still under pressure and cooking while it is turned off). Things like meats and vegetables with a precise cook time are where you want to use the quick release. Although, in terms of meats, letting a roast vent naturally or quick doesnt matter as long as you let the meat rest before cutting. Some say it rests and is more tender while it is naturally venting. I havent seen a difference trying both ways when I allow it to rest in a serving dish. Also, your instructions should have a fairly detailed list on what to vent/not vent. Mine had a list of about 120 items to go off as a reference.

Rice cooked this way does not need any added oil or salt. The seasoning comes from the food it accompanies. Great video ideas, especially the pinto beans. I want to try cooking chickpeas.

I made penne in my instant pot for supper. I had already browned the turkey in it yesterday. I did 3lbs for multiple meals. I just put the turkey and penne in with about a cup of water and covered it in sauce. I set it for 12 minutes, but 10 may have been better. I put some shredded cheese on top and it melted pretty fast.

Rice cooked with butter instead of oil is so good. Also, use chicken gravy for part of the liquid instead of just water. Or substitute some cream soup like cream of broccoli. Easy and seems special.

Just a quick cooking hint. Don''t mash your potatoes with a mixer, the starch turns it into mush. Use a potato masher for a much better taste. Look it up on line... I got my instant pot on Black Friday and am learning, thanks for the great hints

I used my IP for the first time last night. I bought the fancy one thinking more is better. In hindsight I wish it was simple. "On/time/off". However, I figured it out, tried corn on the cob (what could go wrong?) guessed 8 minutes, and it was perfect!

Easiest way to peel your hardboiled eggs. Get a small Mason jar or glass add a splash of water, cover top with hand or the metal flat piece for a mason jar and shake allowing the egg to hit the sides of glass. The shell comes on in a sheet. I do a dozen in about 3 or 4 mins.

@@bonnieleecarter6451 Depending on how many potatoes, but time is 5-7 minutes. For example I cut my 3 big peeled potatoes in a few pieces, not too small, and after 7 minutes I removed the steam immediately after cooking. They were a bit overcooked. But for mashed potatoes they were OK. For a potato salad I'd cut smaller pieces and boil for +/- 5 minutes.
