Yes, my wonderful husband surprised me with a 8-QT. Instant Pot for Christmas!! I've told him for 43 years....."Don't get me any small kitchen appliances for Christmas"!! But my kids have told me how much they love it - so I broke down and asked him, and he bought me one!! My first thing to cook - - - chicken (whole) vegetable/noodle soup. Oh My Goodness, it came out so good!! Like my Mom used to make it! But before I started my first time at the Instant Pot, I found you on RUclips (after watching 8 tutorials that made me crazy listening to! You were so right on the spot and it was easy to follow your lead. Thank you so much for your great idea's. Glad I found you too!!
I just got my instantpot two days ago and i really appreciate that people like you make very helpful and informative videos like this to help other people with their questions and concerns. The first thing i am going to be cooking is a pot roast tomorrow and i didn't even know until this video that you could do mashed potatoes and boiled eggs in this thing. I have a feeling i will be coming back often to this channel. thank you for the time you put in to making this video to help us who haven't used one yet.
A little tip for doing rice. If you put your rice and oil in first, stir the rice around to coat all of the grains in the oil, and then add the water, the rice comes out fluffier and doesn't tend to clump together.
Curious. Mexican white rice is sauteed in oil with chopped onion then cook the regular way. Wonder if that would work with this recipe? Saute then pressure cook the rice?? Just a thought..
Capt. Denis - It should work fine honey. Just sauté your onions & rice in the IP, then add your liquid & other ingredients. Give it a try & see. Bet you’ll love it🎈
A mash potato hint- add the salt to the potatoes and water before you cook them, they will need less salt later and will be evenly seasoned. Also add evaporated milk for a creamier potato instead of regular milk. 😉 you are doing a great job with your instructional videos. Thank you!
I've had my pot for two years and have never opened the box. Your video has given me the courage to give it a try. Thanks sooo much for making it look so easy. You're a great teacher!
LemonadeMom I know for some this would be so basic for many, but your likes say otherwise. THANK YOU! These are the things I most needed to know about before buying. You are helping more then you know. I do not like cooking and im a visual learner. Welcome to our household. I appreciate you!
OMG GIRL!! Thank you so very very much for putting all five of these basic beginner recipes for staple items that can in turn be used in other recipes in ONE video!! Bring on more instant pot recipes!!
Try spaghetti squash. You don’t have to cut it or prick it. Just put it in the pot on the rack and add a cup of water. Cook on high for 15 minutes. When it is done there is usually a split and you can cut it. Then the shell just lifts right off and you can shred your squash. SO EASY!
I do all the soups and stews in IP. If you want you can use the sauté function for the onion, garlic, roast some meat. I did fresh pork ribs (underneath skin removed) boiled in 1cup water and 2 cups apple juice, 15 min in the IP. Remove them from the IP. Put the ribs in a tray with a rack. While the ribs were boiling, I do some barbecue sauce (tomato sauce/paste, a little brown sugar and smoked paprika). I use a brush to spread the sauce over the ribs and put them in the oven for 10-15 min at 200 Celsius, check them, as burning can occur due to sugar. That is not at all healthy. When I steam potatoes for mashed potato I use the rack, as I dump the boiling water.
Also rinse your rice before you cook it!! There is so much that comes out of the rice... Put your rice in a bowl and cover with water, stir, and drain. Repeat until the water is fairly clear.
TIP: Today I put leftover cornbread (from a couple days ago) that was dried out, into the Instant Pot in a steamer basket with 1 cup of water in the bottom of the vessel, and put on manual setting for zero minutes, and did a Q.R. The cornbread came out hot and moist just as if I had baked it fresh in the oven. I'm going to try this in future with bread, cake, etc.
Thank you so much for this series!! My birth mom recently gave me a pressure cooker. I had no clue how to use this thing but am excited to try it out after watching your videos. I thought your videos were clear and easy to understand. Again...huge thank you! I'm inspired 💜
Good beginner instructions for the instant pot newbie. I have looked at a few of your videos and all nice and simply explained. Thanks. Being from the UK I am waiting for the Plus 8 to come out over here as it for me is a big investment and that is the one worth waiting for imo. Mashed potato tip. Being a fussy mashed potato lover I find mashed potates with mixer too gluey in texture when mixed thoroughly and too lumpy if not mixed enough. A hand masher. although definitely produces a much nicer texture. is hard work if like me one wants lump free. The best and easiest method for me is through a ricer and then if I want creamed add milk and butter to the mash and just briefy mix and fluff up with a fork. Perfect fluffy lump free mashed potatoes every time without the effort :)
Salsa chicken was my first recipe and it was amazing. I used around 2lbs of chicken ,1 packet of taco seasoning, 2cups of salsa, and 1/2 cup water. I used the poultry button and it came out perfect. You can use it in a variety of dishes.
Thank you for sharing these simple things to make with the instant pot! I’ve had mine for a year and was afraid to use it. Today I made boiled eggs! Easy Peasy!!
I've had mine for months and not sure I even got the vacuum seal or pop up steam release right bc the directions that came with IP basically suck. Love the IP but not the directions which need to be much more detailed with pics of how to do the important things but read that it will say LID if that isn't right. No wonder we have so many beginner sites and videos, we wouldn't need them as much if we got more detailed directions to begin with !
Thank you so much for this video. I’m a new user. Washed and prepared my first test of water. Apparently I set the timer for 2 hours instead of 2 minutes. On my gosh, it was a long 2 minutes. After a half hour I thought I’d better find help and here you are. Thank you so much for sharing. I’m now a subbie and looking forward to seeing more recipes you share. 🤗
Your eggs don't need that long - trust me. 2 minutes and an instant pressure release will produce a beautiful boiled egg with a slightly runny yolk. 3 minutes and it's hard boiled all the way through. Hope this saves you even more time! Loved the video :)
It depends if you want soft yolks or hard boiled eggs. If you d a natural release the eggs turn out hard boiled (but perfect hard boiled). If you want eggs with cooked whites & soft yolks, then release right away & toss the eggs into ice water or cold water.
The amount of time you cook your eggs may vary. I live in Denver, at 5280' above sea level. It takes my eggs 7 min with 7 min natural release and then in an ice bath.
I made a pot roast last week for the first time using this. My wife was very pleased how it came out so tender in such a short time. Cooked it for 55 minutes with potatoes and carrots together. Came out great.
Great video. I recently bought an instant pot and have been using it a lot. However, some of the internet recipes are goofy and the cooking times are totally off. Yours are right on.
This was great! THANK you for posting the one about the frozen Costco chicken!! That's the number one reason I bought the IP. I rarely (never, lol) remember to defrost the chicken. It would be great to see recipes with foods purchased from Costco.
I don't think there is anything special about the Costco chicken...it is just that you can buy bigger quantities and freeze the desired number of pieces together....the food from Costco is just food but maybe cheaper and maybe in bulk\
I am so glad you find this video helpful! I was scared when I first purchased mine but have gotten so use to it and love all the things I can make with it!!
LemonadeMom This is the best instant pot video out there. I am loving mine although I burned spaghetti lol. Thank you so much for the reply I know you guys are swamped with moving.
Very good basic video for new users of the Instant Pot of which I am one. The video is worth it just for the simple easy mashed potatoes recipe. Thanks.
Thanks! I just bought one from Costco yesterday and I am excited to get started. I found out that it is ok to own with a parrot in the house. Your video is the perfect start to my journey.
Ok so my instant pot is my go too cooking device. I hate heating up my house now that we have jumped from winter to forest fire season.. So my go to recipes are beef and chicken tamales. BBQ pork shoulder country ribs or butt, Greenbeans ham and new potatoes. Yankee Pot Roast. Chicken Pot Pie Filling and Beef Stew. All of these are easy to make and so you know about any slow cooker recipe can be converted to a instant pot. 30-40 minutes for meat dishes and natural release. 15 for chicken dishes. I've even made chicken and gnochi in it. It is possible to do a quick biscuit and gravy dish in it too with out all the fuss if your serving a big crowed. I suggest adding a little bit of light miso mixed with the water to get a prettier frozen chicken breast. It will give it a more appetizing color and a little bit of extra flavor.
I LOVE my “Instant Pot”. I call it the magic cooking machine. One thing that I do different with potatoes that’s AMAZING is I don’t peel and chopped. I wash them, score them and throw them in with a cup of water. They peel soooooooo easy. I do a batch so I can make mashed potatoes and reserve some without peeling, put them in the fridge and have them ready for home fries if I need to or potato salad. I sometimes throw in whole sweet potatoes with them to. I love my magic cooking machine.
@@thehomeplatespecial597 Best way to fix those already cooked potatoes from fridge are to cut them into the right french fry shape, then lower them for 3 minutes in batches into the hot oil, pull them out - let sit (drain) - (for however long, but for at least I'd say 15 - 20 mins) - then put them in the oil prior to serving for the final cook, til they're golden. That's the BEST way to make fries.
I just made a box dinner like hamburger helper in my insta pot. So easy. Sautee the meat to brown it. Follow box directions up to cooking time. 6 mins on high and voila. Yummy dinner
I got a NutriPot a couple months ago and am pouring over all the videos and recipes for these pressure cookers. I've done a roast and it turned out pretty good so, I'm really excited to do more
Just got my instant pot and was scare of the pressure cooking. I had a bad experience with the old version of one years ago. Thank you for sharing your wonderful Instant pot video; it made me feel more at ease using it for the first time.
I do appreciate the video as all I've done so far is make jasmine rice. One thing I can suggest for future videos is be more specific & explain *all* the settings. High or low pressure? Low, medium or high? Ect
You just cooked all of my favorites! These are the most frequent things that I cook in the kitchen! I just got my instant pot and I will be using it to cook all of these now! TY!!!
Thanks for taking the time to demonstrate the use of the instant pot by cooking the 5 easiest things. I especially appreciate the bean cooking demo. Beans & rice pudding would be my number one reason for purchasing one. I'm a bean lover who hates canned beans, but I noticed your pinto beans didn't appear to have a very thick broth when finished. I guess that's a disadvantage of using instant pot vs say a crockpot or a cast iron dutch oven? I really like a thick bean broth with tender beans. Anyway, I have been sitting on the fence in terms of whether to buy an instant pot. I'm sure it's an advantageous appliance in a large, busy household where someone's always hungry, but as a single person-- I don't know. It seems to me it comes down to whether you want the food prepared right or fast. Thanks again!
Thanks for the succinct tips! I always appreciate someone who knows how to make a video! (I don't need to watch someone cut potatoes or unwrap a product!)
I have just had one given for Christmas I am 74 I’m a bit nervous of it but I’m going to have a go thank you for your help I like to make stews and soups hopefully No recipes like that
I made macaroni & cheese one recipe said to put on sauté to add cheese & heavy cream but I would just add it without sauté since I had some burnt marks. I also put a dish towel over the vent when it is venting.
Rice cooked with butter instead of oil is so good. Also, use chicken gravy for part of the liquid instead of just water. Or substitute some cream soup like cream of broccoli. Easy and seems special.
I have the 13 qt go wise insta pot , I cook 2roasts with as many carrots and onions with any seasoning and potatoes 90 minutes and it’s awesome and very tender.
Hello LemonadeMom, I followed your Pinto bean recipe and it was delicious. I made it saucy w/8-oz left over marinara sauce, garlic, onions, powdered mustard, TJ's frozen trio peppers and bacon. I soaked my beans x 1 day for the digestive benefit (covered w/tap water, a lid and forgot about 'em till I needed them).
Great video. I am a beginner for using instant pot. So I will be asking lots of lots questions. How do you know how many minutes set the pot. I have a question for cooking rice. I used butter instead of oil. If I use butter will it burnthe pan. Thanks
Sun brown Rice ( short grain brown rice). 1 cup rice, rinsed, 1 3/4 cups of water, a bit of salt, pressure cook on manual for 22 minutes, release pressure naturally. Love that
super easy yellow rice and chicken...i pkg yellow rice, I use Vigo..1 can chicken..I use from Sams..about 2 cups frozen peas...I add the drained chicken to pot, measure the liquid from can add enough water per instruction on yellow rice, add rice, add peas, give it a good stir...set pot to rice and forget it...mine is usually a bit wet, but that is how we like it, its because of the peas. If you like yours dryer, rince peas first to eliminate any ice. Nice meal with a salad.
Just a quick cooking hint. Don''t mash your potatoes with a mixer, the starch turns it into mush. Use a potato masher for a much better taste. Look it up on line... I got my instant pot on Black Friday and am learning, thanks for the great hints
Great videos! I bought my instant pot 2 months ago but I haven't really cooked anything on it yet. I'll keep watching your videos and see if I can finally start. Once again great job in your videos!
Thank you for this informative video! I just got my Instant Pot during Amazon Prime day and am loving it! Didn't find the recipe booklet included with the pot very useful so decided to look on you tube for meal ideas! Will keep watching your channel
Wondering whether to invest in the Instant Pot - this video sure makes it appear that I can make good use of it. Mashed potatoes in less than 15 minutes is awesome!
Thanks for this I just got a Multipot the other day and this helps especially the frozen chicken I had sitting here thinking I needed to defrost and saw your video.
How about some details? Please! Like, how much of each ingredient and how long did you cook and at what setting? The "devil" is in the details, don't you know?
I have a summer casserole that I make I. Microwave, I think time would be about 10 to 12 min. In the Insta-pot, it is 1 cup a rice, large zucchini , and 5 small fresh tomatoes. 1small pack/tube of bulk sausage browned, would 12 min. Be good? Salt & pepper light.
These were great! Kind of all the "basics" that we all do in the kitchen. I never would have though you could boil eggs in an Instant Pot but that is just so cool! You sure made it all look so easy, I will be trying these FIRST just to get my "sea legs" with the Instant Pot, so to speak, LOL! Thanks for sharing!
Rice cooked this way does not need any added oil or salt. The seasoning comes from the food it accompanies. Great video ideas, especially the pinto beans. I want to try cooking chickpeas.
I would love to know why sometimes you say you let the steam release naturally, versus letting it out by flipping the "steam release" to release it instantly! So WHY let it release naturally sometimes, and also WHEN do I know when to release the steam manually VS. letting it release on it's own? Thanks! :) Lauren
Most grains and beans you want to release naturally so it allows them to still cook/soften while it is cooling down (it's still under pressure and cooking while it is turned off). Things like meats and vegetables with a precise cook time are where you want to use the quick release. Although, in terms of meats, letting a roast vent naturally or quick doesnt matter as long as you let the meat rest before cutting. Some say it rests and is more tender while it is naturally venting. I havent seen a difference trying both ways when I allow it to rest in a serving dish. Also, your instructions should have a fairly detailed list on what to vent/not vent. Mine had a list of about 120 items to go off as a reference.
Thank you for posting this very helpful video. I always use a little butter or oil and some chicken stock powder to cook my rice. Do you have any suggestions for cooking brown basmati rice so the grains come out fluffy? Thank you

Capt. Denis - It should work fine honey.
Just sauté your onions & rice in the IP,
then add your liquid & other ingredients.
Give it a try & see. Bet you’ll love it🎈
What oil do you use when a recipe calls for just "oil"? There are so many oils used in cooking.

I actually showed how to do just that in my Frugal Dinner ideas in the Instant Pot video :)
THANK YOU!!!!This makes me so very happy and excited for fall!!!
Good video.. i use the 5-5-5 method for my hard boiled eggs..
Also rinse your rice before you cook it!! There is so much that comes out of the rice... Put your rice in a bowl and cover with water, stir, and drain. Repeat until the water is fairly clear.
You're correct!!!! Lol i always rinse the starch off thoroughly so it comes out very fluffy & light.
I think adding oil is a horrible idea.
Do the same with the dried beans!
TIP: Today I put leftover cornbread (from a couple days ago) that was dried out, into the Instant Pot in a steamer basket with 1 cup of water in the bottom of the vessel, and put on manual setting for zero minutes, and did a Q.R. Neat, thanks for that!
I tried it again with a roll, leftover from Texas Roadhouse. It was a fail! I tried again with the cornbread, was great, just as the first time!
I did for 12 minutes and found the rice a bit hard. I will do for 14 minutes next time

Thanks , i really needed this to start cooking, i got on the Instant Pot craze a little late, this helped me so much.
Love my Instant Pot. Thanks for these ideas!
TY!!!
Just started using mine... Like right now! Thanks!
I just love you Lemonade Mom! You are a great teacher! Thank you!
I’m a true newbie at this. Thanks for the clear video. You recommend a particular cook book for instant pot?
Thank you for this video. I got an Instant Pot for Mother's Day and have been afraid to use it.
Very nice video. You covered my two favorites eggs and beans.
Thanks for the succinct tips! I always appreciate someone who knows how to make a video! (I don't need to watch someone cut potatoes or unwrap a product!)
Thanks! I needed this tutorial!
Just the channel I needed. Thanks for the quick and to the point videos. Very helpful.
I have just had one given for Christmas I am 74 I’m a bit nervous of it but I’m going to have a go thank you for your help I like to make stews and soups hopefully No recipes like that
I have bought one and never used it, will use it now that I know more, thanks.
Thanks
Just got my pot...you make it look so easy. I’ll be watching to learn. Thanks
I got my Instant Pot before Christmas and love it. I use it at least 3 times a week and often even more.
Sun brown Rice ( short grain brown rice). 1 cup rice, rinsed, 1 3/4 cups of water, a bit of salt, pressure cook on manual for 22 minutes, release pressure naturally. Love that
Such a sweetheart! Thank you for sharing!
💕 Thanks again ! Loved this video ! 👏🏼👍🏼💗
I'm excited about this! I do wish you would have cut the eggs in Half
For extra flavor, trade out the water for chicken or beef stock. Great video. Thank you.
super easy yellow rice and chicken...i pkg yellow rice, I use Vigo..1 can chicken..I use from Sams..about 2 cups frozen peas...I add the drained chicken to pot, measure the liquid from can add enough water per instruction on yellow rice, add rice, add peas, give it a good stir...set pot to rice and forget it...mine is usually a bit wet, but that is how we like it, its because of the peas.
Dennis Abramsohn agree- overmixing makes them tough
Dennis Abramsohn a ricer is even better, but a pain in the neck (or hand, if you have arthritis)
A potato ricer is a better option, it forces it thru a sieve and there’s no lumps ever xx
Great videos! I bought my instant pot 2 months ago but I haven't really cooked anything on it yet. I'll keep watching your videos and see if I can finally start. Once again great job in your videos!
Thank you for sharing question for rice didn’t understand for rice for vent
Can you plz explain me how long I have to wait to natural release
Great tips. Those mashed potatoes look especially good. I could eat a truckload of them.
Liked and subscribed: I can’t wait to try the mashed potatoes. My first pot is coming for Christmas. I can’t wait. Thank you
I've never done beans in the IP but I'm going to give this try.
Do you know her instagram page?
@@Thethreesisters2134 It's in her description box.
Thanks for this I just got a Multipot the other day and this helps especially the frozen chicken I had sitting here thinking I needed to defrost and saw your video.
Vanessa, just watched two of your videos already. Your videos are informative and you make them look easy.
Buy sockeye salmon to make salmon teriyaki with fresh veggies of red, orange and yellow peppers in a medium pan with with jasmine rice delish!
Lili Aaliyah thanks. Def going to try that!!
Perfect! Start small and build some comfort and trust with the appliance and it will work wonders for you!
Rice cooked this way does not need any added oil or salt. The seasoning comes from the food it accompanies. Great video ideas, especially the pinto beans. I want to try cooking chickpeas.
Great video. Thanks for sharing. I did pulled Mexican Chicken in my pot yesterday. Good stuff. Happy New Year.
Really appreciate this. Thank you
Thanks for the simple quick ideas, I love my Instant Pot.
I would love to know why sometimes you say you let the steam release naturally, versus letting it out by flipping the "steam release" to release it instantly! So WHY let it release naturally sometimes, and also WHEN do I know when to release the steam manually VS. letting it release on it's own?
Thanks! :)
Lauren
Thank you
Great video 👍 I don't have a manual button😒 is there a different way?
If you don’t have a manual button just use the pressure cook button and make sure the pressure is on high 😊
Thank you! Keep putting videos out😀
I like that you get straight to the point.
