Hey, could you make a video on perscription options?
I buy glasses from the hardware store. They have uv and puncture protection certifacates and cost around 10 bucks. Bike specific glasses cost 10 times that and usually scratch even easier and when they are scratched they are done for.
Once I bought experience glasses and I forgot them on a bench in the park. Hardware store glasses are the best for protection and you don't need to worry if they get kicked out of your head from a branch.
You should do a separate video for those people who use prescription glasses. There's lot of us out there.
At the moment I just use my regular glasses when biking. How much prescription "sports glasses" cost? Is wearing protective glasses over regular glasses an option?
In Canada for the full set of lenses mounted on your favorite big brand frame with quality polycarbonate non polarized it would cost 700$ at my local optician. Assuming you just have slight corrections like me 😅
My go to brand is Tifosi. Under $100 with three lenses is hard to beat. As she mentioned they are very important to protect the eyes from branches and rocks that get kicked up by the tires.
In case anybody else is wondering, the red mirror lens sunglasses she is wearing is the Smith Boomtown Matte Black. The two other ones are the Smith Wildcat and Smith Bobcat.
Great video 😃
While expensive, I am a huge fan of my Vaurnet 1521/polarized glasses. In the Midwest, these are suitable for all conditions of trail AND gravel riding. I like these so much, that I also use them frequently on my snowboard in the winter. These glasses stay put on my face while hitting some of the hardest core terrain on my MTB and some of the gnarliest out-west mogul snowboard runs. I have fought with glasses for years and these are the only pair that I do not have to fuss with while riding. …APB Dotty!
I use desert protection glasses that got issue when serving in the military. Came with clear and dark interchangeable lenses, but my favorite feature is the hook at the end that wrap around the ears preventing the glasses from falling or interfering with the helmet.
Been using Bolle safety glasses which although clear, suit what I do and can be as little as £8. Made to very high standards. Could never justify £400 for a pair of cycling glasses, as my new gravel bike didn't cost much more
I wear Oakley Flack 2.0 with the Prizm Trail lens, helps a lot if in woods dappled shade or mixed conditions
My helmet has a big peak so they are great except in the brightest conditions
I also have the flak, picked them up at a thrift shop for nothing
Put transition lenses in them so they work good in the sun and shade too
I’ve never gone wrong with Lidl or Aldi sport glasses. I have multiple pairs to suit different riding conditions.
My optician recommended some sport glasses from Amazon which could take prescription lenses and they have been an absolute godsend.
The idea of spending a truck load of money on a pair of sport glasses, only to leave them at a cafe or misplace them on a trail is just too much to bear.
My latest find for good quality protective eyewear is Screwfix. How can you loose with £5.00?
Nice. Can you get someone on to talk about riding glasses for those of us less able to see. I am an old duffer and wear varifocals.
Get an optician in to talk about pros and cons of single vision (and not reading the Garmin), bifocal and varifocal.
I have a pair of Smith, Leadout glasses with their photoCromic lens, and they came with a Chromapop set as well and honesty they are the best glasses I have ever owned!!!!! Highly recommended for faces with broader noses and the PhotoCromic transition works great, but having the option to of the chromoPOP that feels like you litterly switch your vision to High Def is the bees knees.
P.S thanks for all the knowledge and great content!!!!!!

I have a pair of 1999 smith slider that I love and they won't sell me replacements lenses anymore 😂
Damn u Smith
I use a 3 lense glasses kit. It has clear, mild tint and heavy tint options so I just remove tge one piece lense and insert another depending on weather
Which Smith clear MTB
glasses ate those? Can you send me a link to purchase those?
You better buy ballistic grade lenses with potential pebbles & rocks that may impact them. Polarized lenses are a huge benefit too.
Julbo Rush Photochromic 0-3 is the best for my needs.
The best by far from my experience in most conditions and even in low light to help define the terrain is the Oakley Prizm trail lenses and never fog up. Choose your own frames that best suit your face. If you shop around you can get them at a decent price too.
The cheap solution can be just safety glasses from the hardware store. Another requirement lots of people like myself need are prescription lenses, so those definitely start pricier and limit the shapes based on your prescription strength
I remember years ago we used to rub rain X on the front lens it stopped the fogging pretty good
Funny, the glasses that work best for me are cheap Amazon ones. Have oakleys, and it's either too dark or clear, and yes, I've tried rose iridium and yellow.
I have used the Amazon Amber safety glasses. A 12 pack costs about $30 so I don't have to worry about one of them breaking. At least, that is what I used to use until very recently.
Now? I wear prescription lenses.
I have found affordable-to me-glasses that come with an insert frame. I just needed to get prescription plastic lenses made and they sit behind the mirrorized sunglasses.
Hopefully #GMBNTech will be able to cover eyeglass options.
So what sort of glasses are for us, who regularly wear sight glasses?
Can anyone recc. a photochromic glasses that go to clear?
There are also polarized lenses. The issue with these is that they can make it hard to read computer screens.
I am a fan of Sungod eyewear
Bolle Reactive Varifocals - perfect for a speedy 50+ (me)
I hate to have to ask but what brand are those glasses featured in the video??
Smith
Nice
I have to wear glasses for everything I do. Contacts not an option for me. Any suggestions on over glasses or goggles?
Yes. Go to your local bikestore and ask the question there
You can get glasses that fit your prescription in a clip in addon that fixes on to the glasses.
I'm also wondering this. Right now I'm using an older pair of prescription sunglasses. It's not ideal, it doesn't block the wind that well, but it's better than nothing. A good mountain bike specific option would be greatly appreciated.
Hello, fellow glasses enjoyer here. I wear Leatt Velocity 4.5 goggles and they work great. They are OTG goggles so glasses fit nicely, there are even small cuts in the foam so the frames fit better. They are still goggles so they come with all the drawbacks, they don't fog up though. If you prefer glasses I'd look around for mtb prescription glasses or ones with special prescription inserts. I've heard Rudy Project glasses are great, didn't test them myself though. They are a lot more expensive so it depends on your budget.
You can get safety glasses designed to go over prescription glasses (so everyone has the opertunity to rip their arm off at a lathe) and they come in all colours (Clear, dark, polarised, amber, I've even seen red (had to look up that one.. Apparently good for fog & depth perception)...
As per my main comment rant I sooooooooo suggest trying amber if you ride in/out of forest sections.
This is a coincidence, I’ve recently picked up an eye infection recently that I think has come from a midge fly on a local ride. Wasn’t wearing any glasses, been looking at some so it doesn’t happen again. 🙁 on antibiotics and eye drops for a few days.
Yup, after riding through a storm of fly's I even ride at night with glasses
I got stung in the eye by a bee that went UNDER my glasses! Right at the start of my ride, but damn if I wasn’t going finish. Hurt like a MFer though.
I got some Storm Eyewear about 10 years ago, inter changable lenses, winter padding..etc..And I'll be gutted if and when they break..Ha !!
After I forgot expensive riding glasses on the roof of the my car, I began to use cheap ones from decathlon.
Exactly! Why bother buying expensive riding glasses when a nice pair for under $100 can be purchased. I use the Tifosi brand.
What about us who wear regular specs because we have no choice. There seems to be nothing out there for us. It's goggles that fit over the frames or just wear our prescription specs.
In saying that I'd probably just wear regular safety glasses rather than MTB specific. Cost a few quid from a DIY shop.
Also Aldi usually do some really nice cycling glasses for not much money.. Can we really justify the expensive prices when we know the are going to get knocked, scratched or lost in the trails?
I use Oakley or rayban
So, GMBN doesn't support the use of safety squints?
The yellow or amber lenses have worked very well for me on cloudy days, when the sky is grey, greetings, from Mexico
Screwfix. Clear and tinted. So much cheaper and great range
🇺🇸 Oakley's stay on my face, especially over crazy dips & Jumps Best, but🏜️ branches & tree growth over rains usually hit my glasses instead of my eyes👍 shades dark are for extreme Summer sunlight in Arizona deserts. I'll usually buy hunting shaded Yellow tint too see everything as im able too, including Street ride home☕🏜️🇺🇸
Goodr glasses rule and are affordable
Where is Doddy? We are all missing him, hope all is well
All plastic lenses will offer 100% UV protection.
The cheap pound shop lenses offer the same UV protection as the very expensive branded lenses.
UV yes, bright lights no. You still can't stare into the sun
@@janeblogs324 Well thats common sense? Sunglasses aren't made for staring at the sun, irregardless of the price.
At 50yrs old.. Photochromic Lens.. FTW.
Gogs are best
Look into higher end safety glasses. You’re welcome
40% fixed sunglasses
Doddy?
I'm using Oakley Jawbreaker Matte Black Prizm Trail Torch Linse.
I wear prescription Ray Bans. $500 but they last for 10 years.
is anybody using NAKED Optics out there?
For prescription eyewear people, seems probably the best option is get contact lenses fitted, and buy less expensive protective wrap-around glasses for riding. One option that comes to mind is the industrial eyewear makers, who offer impact-rated adjustable eyewear that doesn't distort your vision and give you headaches, but doesn't cost a fortune either.
Otherwise, goggles can fit over prescription glasses, but there's no upside to this because fogging is going to be a problem in that micro-climate where the prescription lenses can't keep up with the changing temperature and humidity.
Start with clear lenses. See how you get on.
💙
Bring back doddy .
I buy cheap so i dont have to be careful 😊
When I started biking everyone was rocking that ugly panel thing, I didn't. I understand the utility but I still don't rock them 30 yrs later.
I love yellow lens, I have a pair of yellow lenses Bolle I always go to but they're ballistic glasses absolutely not made for biking, for open terrain full sun conditions it's always vuarnet's skilinx lenses a have a dozen pair of these things they are something else; terrain pops up, eye fatigue is non existent & comfort is premium...
Wear whatever you want. Done
🥚🕶️🤘
Nope. Just use cheaper safety specs loads of great designs now and high spec protection....and if they get damaged or lost no big financial woes.
Obviously you just buy the coolest 😎 looking ones 🤷🤷
7min video on eyewear and not a word on people that need prescription glasses... bit of a disappointment this
7:40 GMBN community 😅🤣😂 ya can't even tell us where Doddy is and if he's okay and if he's coming back. Not much of a community 🤔

Well, it is a business. I can't see how it would operate without ads and sponsorship.

I don't get how you can promote wearing eye protection on the trails yet you show yourself coming down the trails with no elbow or knee protection 🤔
Doddy?
