The best way to make sure that the Switch successor succeeds is: ●PS4 Pro levels of power ●Make the selling price $399 ●Advertise it as a must-have ●Improve the feel of it over Switch Something to consider is that a lot of people still really like the idea of the Switch, but wish that it was just better hardware. If Nintendo shows up with the Switch successor and it improves on every hardware aspect, it's legit just good enough as a successor to warrant buying
An advantage the successor has that's distinct compared to previous flops is surprisingly enough... morale. In previous generations that did well, Nintendo was up against stiff gaming competition such as with Sega, Sony and Microsoft. But now, Sony and Microsoft's consoles have lost most of their momentum thanks to the Law of Diminishing Returns biting them hard in the rear while Nintendo's console is still somehow keeping up incredible momentum late in its lifespan. Even the Wii and DS petered out in towards the end of their respective lifespans... but somehow not the Switch??? It's an animal that'll work amazingly in the advantage of the successor
Not pa4 pro levels just a bit better than the OG ps4 and the price is 350 and 400 for oled and a game pack-in + a new gymick but the other things you named are defendly also needed.
@@AlessandroLoscueva It will never be less than 400$. Switch launch price inflation adjusted is 384$. And It will be better than PS4 Pro in docked mode and PS4 in portable mode. Not in raw GPU numbers but it will be better in everything else.

The hybrid thing is not impressive anymore. Every single handheld on the market now does that... its a standard across the industry. Look at the rog ally, steam deck, legion go exc
With the gameboy to gameboy advance comparison, it's not really the same as the rest of them since the gb was on market for 12 years and was grouped with the gbc before it got replaced while the gba got replaced by the ds 3 years after it released
I for sure am not buying one at launch. I overbought way too much on Switch, and then I got a Steam deck and started using Steam again. I have more than I could possibly play already. (But backwards compatibility would go a long way) I don’t think it’s going to be a bad device, but I have every reason to delay until there’s a bundle or a must play game or something
@@SALTYTOAD00 already failed at that. "Switch attach" is worse then wii u is, people are just gonna think it something you attach to your switch!!!!!!!!!!!
It could definitely fail. Depends on how greedy they are and if they deliver on the games department. Also, it would be nice if they listened, like make online play free, provide themes, and a glow up for eshop. An option to buy various games on NSO would be nice. Ngl, I want a discount on switch 2 since both my joycons drift.
If it fails, that's cool: What I liked about the Wii U's catalog of games is that we were not overwhelmed with the games, we simply were limited with the games we got and valued what was available even more. Wii U is better at playing the following games due to immersion more than there switch ports: Fatal Frame Maiden of black water, Zombi U, Xenoblade X (if the next nintendo has it), point is the 2nd screen is more interesting to me.
It is impossible for switch 2 to fail. Reasons are. 1. It has Switch in it. 2. It is same account our libraries move forward. 3. Joy cons will still work with it. 4. Most or all evergreen games will get DLSS visual upgrades which will sell more copies of existing games. 5. NSO will offer us upscale versions of these dlss games if we already purchased the game via expansion pass. 6. NSO will offer Gamegube, Wii, DS and 3ds tittles. These are just off top of my head😊
Oh I thought of another good reason. Because Nintendo always half step jumps into next gen this means all ps4 era games will get ports to switch 2.😄 So third party support will be great.
GX spend 7 years talking about the Next Switch, now it’s been hinted at GX question what will happen if it fails. When it DOES come out I expect GX to dedicate another 7 years to talking about the NEXT next Switch.
Switch 2 WILL NOT be as successful as Switch, in fact you’ll be lucky to even hit 100 million. The audience was and is casual, and since the original switch works well, they won’t need a switch 2!
I hope the Nintendo Switch's successor doesn't disappoint. One thing I would hope for is that if it gets Virtual Console (like the Wii, Nintendo 3DS, and Wii U did, and I suppose the Nintendo Switch, but in a different kind of way), that they would add Nintendo Gamecube games to it.
Call it Switch 2, make it another hybrid, make it backwards compatible with Switch games, have it launch with the new 3D Mario, allow Switch accessories to work with it like the Pro Controller, and price it at $400. Done, they have another success story.
Keyword being "iterative". The Wii, DS and Switch were very different from what came before them. Wii made its main controller into a remote and focused on motion controls, the DS had 2 screens with 1 of them being touch based and the Switch is a handheld that can be easily connected to your tv.
Well..tons of people like me who was dissatisfied with the poor performance of Scarlet/Violet, we are no longer going to purchase the next Pokemon game right away, we will see reviews and actual gameplay videos so that we wont have a repeat of last time.
If the Switch 2 flops then Nintendo will start giving us a better value. Maybe Nintendo will bring back virtual console. Maybe Nintendo selects returns. We win.
I think the worst switch 2 will do is 3ds like sales, they just need a really ambitious 3d mario and MK9 first year with maybe an OoT remake in 2026 throw in a smash bros and pokemon, give a new AC 2027 .
Hindsight is 20/20. Even if Switch 2 fails on its start, fans will most likely spread awareness much more now that we know things can go wrong. The WiiU was great, but poor communication snowballed into oblivion. Besides, the siturations are not really comparable, the internal Switch 2 project clearly has something cooking to make the launch year at least as attractive as the Switch 1 gamewise.
I think a big part of the metric people forget about the Wii is both momentum and attach rate. Neither has been Switch's problem, so they're going in strong, With Wii, it was kind of the forgotten console prior to the Wii U.
TBH, the Switch 2 would have to be a MASSIVE L in order to bomb. compared to everything else on the market, the Switch is the best console of this generation for Library, Availability, Price and Versatility. the Switch 2 can have that right out of the gate if they utilize backwards compatibility, produce plenty of units and not charge an arm and a leg for it. ($500 or higher)
I'd say that another factor in this situation is the overall quality of the hardware Nintendo decides to put in SW2. Historically, in completing with Sony and MS, they've held back the tech in their consoles in favor of letting their games drive sales. Now that the Switch isn't the only hybrid in the game and the Steam Deck's specs vastly outperform Switch's - not to mention the vast library of games available on Steam - Nintendo may have to bite the bullet and put more next-gen hardware in SW2 if they don't want it to fail.
Bro, the PS Portal is what everyone thought the Wii U Tablet was lol. How is that the same as the Switch or Portable PC handhelds? - If it has a Smash Bros, Mainline Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, Animal Crossing and/or Splatoon. It WILL sell like hotcakes.
I think the whole reason why Nintendo is taking so long to release a new console is because they realize they are marketed towards a demographic who won't buy something that looks similar to what they already have or buy a new gaming console if they already bought one within that decade.
I would love it if they called it the “switch 2” and just have ugrades to all the features. Like a bigger screen, better joystick control, built in blue light filter, more storage, and better graphics. Or at least that’s what I’m hoping they’re gonna do (and they could add mii maker music & new themes lol)
The main reason the Switch succeeded --even before the novelty of being a hybrid--was because of Zelda Breath of the Wild. I believe most people were more excited about playing a completely new concept of Zelda, than whatever they were playing it on. With that said, the Switch being a hybrid proved successful once people started playing games on it, and I think it was with the release of Mario Kart 8 that the hybrid gimmick really interested everyone. This time there is no new Zelda, but they need to release a new Mario Kart as soon as possible, as well as constant releases of new and exciting games. If you think about it, the Wii also had a Zelda at release and also people wanted to play it. The gimmick of motion controls came after the first exploding sales at launch (which people wanted for Zelda not for the gimmick).
The problem with the successors to Nintendo consoles (such as Nintendo 3DS, GameCube, or Wii U) is that they arrived on the market with defects and that they did not sit well with Nintendo.Such is the case of 3DS with the excessive price during its inception, the low capacity of GCN CDs, and well, everything that everyone knows about Wii U. Even systems with original concepts like the Nintendo 64 failed on things like cartridge capacity and development costs. So to do this, Nintendo must take these factors into account if it wants the Switch 2 to sell as well as the current Switch, such as its price, accessibility to game development, the maintain third-party support who have done very well, etc.
Unpopular take.. The next system should be console only with enough power to play modern games well. We already have the switch for portable gaming. The general populace is going to ask the very logical question of "i have a switch. Why do i need to spend $400 on another?". And they will forego it. Anyway, this would give Nintendo a portable system, and a powerful modern console. Then, in 5 years, they can put out a true, more powerful switch/portable successor.
I think Nintendo positioned themselves well with all the new fans they gained from the Switch. If they can continue to target gamers with the popular open world Zelda’s. Have a smash bros for the hardcore fighting audience. Casuals with animal crossing and Kirby. Get Pokemon on it, they’ll have more than enough for ppl to buy the successor
All I say is add a new Smash Bros & everyone will be on it, since I bought the Wii U for Smash Bros only to play as Rosalina (I still miss the build your stage mod in WII U, the space Background was moving instead of being a still image)
If Nintendo truly learned their lesson from the Wii U and doesn’t come out of the gate thinking everyone and their grandma will buy the Switch 2 no matter what, I think they will be ok.
It won't "fail," but I'm fairly certain it'll sell quite a bit less. Nintendo has always had difficulty maintaining momentum, and considering how late in the gen the system is releasing, I expect it could eventually struggle to get quality 3rd party AAA ports. People will try & discredit how important 3rd party games are, but every single Nintendo system that has relied solely on 1st party games & lacked 3rd party support has failed. But just like with the Wii U, I expect the Switch 2 will have good 3rd party support to start, Nintendo just needs to market & support it better quickly enough to move units. Regarding the tech - as we've seen with the Switch, there's a certain point at which so many sacrifices have to be made, the games either look & play utterly terrible, or don't get ported at all. We know its specs will come in quite a bit behind PS5 & SX. Soon we'll have PS5 Pro, and we now have rumors suggesting MS plans to launch their next gen system early (potentially 2026). That means it'll quickly be back to being 2 gens behind tech-wise, which is fine for Nintendo-made games, but hurts for major 3rd party games. They also have a tendency to get complacent, as we've already seen in several areas with the Switch itself. The system still lacks major features that are STANDARD everywhere else (and have been for over a decade), despite years of fan demand. They rely heavily on lower-effort remasters & remakes rather than taking big swings like the RE remakes or Crash/Spyro Trilogies, and they pump out more Mario games than ever (while leaving many of their other IPs in the dump). Lastly, it's great that they have an ample amount of AA games & remasters to fill each year, but they create far less new IPs & AAA games than ever. Only Mario & Zelda get the AAA treatment, with Metroid Prime 4 being the remainder. It would be nice if more IPs got similar treatment, even if that means waiting longer for a release.
1:34 Once again, there should be a huge asterisk on that example. The Game Boy sales are combining the Game Boy and Game Boy Color for one. Two, it lasted 12 years before the GBA replaced them. The DS came out less than four years after the GBA. Context matters. 💯

it's POSSIBLE, but definitely gonna be very hard to make that happen. but compared to Sony and Microsoft, Nintendo has surpassed their rivals in the Console Wars this gen.
It cannot fail, if it has perfect backwards compability. Even the crappy PS2 was a huge success as 100+ million PSX owners swapped their system into successor.
"Half of PS4 owners still haven't upgraded." Yeah, because the PS5 is less than four years old, and it takes a long time to sell 117 million units. 🤷♂️
NGL as of this moment right now I deff do think the switch 2 should fail for the simple fact they refuse to give us any good info about it. I’m not gonna buy a console until I see all the specs.
even if its named something like "switch U", what it needs is great advertising that tells what it is + a great catalogue of games the wii u didnt fail because of its name, it failed because the marketing was awful and there were hardly any games in its first few years nintendo basically did the opposite of everything the wii u did for the switch, i think that we're in good hands and pray it goes well
I don’t think something like the lack of games will happen. When they were in the wii u era they also have to support the 3ds. Now they only have 1 system. So 1st party support will only be stronger than wii u.
It can flop. The Wii U flipped after the Wii. Virtual Boy flopped after Game Boy. Nintendo actual doesn't have a history of back to back console successes...
Excellent video! And I agree with all of your points. I fear that Nintendo is waiting too long to release the Switch 2, and their strategy of squeezing every last ounce of life from a successful console before releasing their next console, is a strategy that has already failed them twice in the past. And yet somehow they are still convinced that it's a strategy that works. "Strike while the iron is hot" as the old saying goes. But the iron is no longer hot. It's not even lukewarm. The iron has gone cold. While I do believe that the Switch 2 will be fine in the long run, I don't think it'll be successful at launch. Nintendo may have to do a price drop after a few months like what they did for the 3DS and Wii U. Still, the Switch 2 will end up doing fine in the end.

If Nintendo doesn't make stupid decisions like most western companies they should be fine. Unlike the Wii the demand and excitement is there for the next console. I remember the days nearing the Wii U launch there wasn't major excitement except the Big Nintendo fans. Past 4+ years, Switch 2 yet? has been a constant discussion. All Nintendo's franchises are flying high. Splatoon 4 should definitely go well, the series is too successful to stop now. Animal crossing has becoming household name due to the pandemic. Metroid and Pikmin finally found footing among many others. Mario 2d and 3d hit thier peak and can easily go further. Pokemon is playing catchup but it still going strong. The switch era was still the correct franchise being continued even if the devs are slow at catching up to modern hardware. Zelda is stronger than ever, on par with Mario. Movies and parks should boost Nintendo's Sales further.
If their new console fails then we can be sure they will bring out some of the hardest hitting new games to make it a success. Somehow I feel like people are already hyped though.
Nintendo just needs to release a main pokemon game exclusively on the switch 2 and the console will sell like hot cakes... Scarlet and violet sold almost 25M copies even if the games were extremely buggy. The longer development time for modern games is not as big of an issue to Nintendo as it is to Sony and Microsoft because they can always task a smaller studio with remaking one of their older game.
That last part hits true. Unlike the other 2, Nintendo actually makes smaller budget games with their IPs, even brining back dormant or underused IPs every now and then.
I know it's not mainline, but Pokemon Legends Z-A is coming in the first half of 2025, so it could serve as a launch title for the Switch 2 while still being backwards compatible with the current Switch.
@@iLoveBread260 But the Wii U wasn’t just Wii 2. It tried something different, and had terrible marketing. People thought it was just a new controller for the Wii rather than a new console.

The best way to make sure that the Switch successor succeeds is:
●PS4 Pro levels of power
●Make the selling price $399
●Advertise it as a must-have
●Improve the feel of it over Switch
Something to consider is that a lot of people still really like the idea of the Switch, but wish that it was just better hardware.

Remember how we all thought the Switch would fail? Oh boy were we wrong...
Now that most people are assuming that the switch 2 is going to be a success it can happens the contrary...
When is the NX coming out?
It is impossible for switch 2 to fail. Reasons are.
1. It has Switch in it.
2. It is same account our libraries move forward.
3. Joy cons will still work with it.
4. Most or all evergreen games will get DLSS visual upgrades which will sell more copies of existing games.
5. NSO will offer us upscale versions of these dlss games if we already purchased the game via expansion pass.
6. NSO will offer Gamegube, Wii, DS and 3ds tittles.

The question we should be asking ourselves is actually how many more units will Switch 2 out sell Switch 1 by?🤔
GX spend 7 years talking about the Next Switch, now it’s been hinted at GX question what will happen if it fails.
1:17 no because the Wii sold more than the Gamecube, the Switch more than the Wii U and the DS sold more than the Gameboy Advance.
Keyword being "iterative". The Wii, DS and Switch were very different from what came before them.
Wii made its main controller into a remote and focused on motion controls,
the DS had 2 screens with 1 of them being touch based

Most mainline Pokemon games on the Switch sucks tbh.
gamefreak, nintendo's shitty 2nd party "LJN equivalent" will not carry a console anymore

If the Switch 2 flops then Nintendo will start giving us a better value. Maybe Nintendo will bring back virtual console. Maybe Nintendo selects returns. We win.
Stop jumping into conclusions every freakin time.
Then It Will Be Nintendo's Fault.
that's the only way they can fail at this point.
If the switch 2 fails you can expect Nintendo to serve up Mario Kart 9 deluxe for the next decade. If they did it once, they'll do it again.
There should be a "nintendo demolition night" like the disco demolition night of 1979
I'd say that another factor in this situation is the overall quality of the hardware Nintendo decides to put in SW2.
Let's hope it doesn't fail
Yeah
Why ? Do you own Nintendo stock ?
I think the whole reason why Nintendo is taking so long to release a new console is because they realize they are marketed towards a demographic who won't buy something that looks similar to what they already have or buy a new gaming console if they already bought one within that decade.
I would love it if they called it the “switch 2” and just have ugrades to all the features. Like a bigger screen, better joystick control, built in blue light filter, more storage, and better graphics. Or at least that’s what I’m hoping they’re gonna do (and they could add mii maker music & new themes lol)
The only way it’ll completely fail is by alienating diehard Nintendo fans like me.
Like the Wii U did with its awful marketing?
@@golemplay64
I still got a Wii U because of Smash Bros, Mario and Zelda
Let's not jump to conclusions.
Hasnt nintendo learned from the "2" consoles
Of course it’s Joey behind a negative video 🙄
Wii U failed 100% on marketing.
Had it been named ANYTHING else, it would've sold 30 million.
Considering that games are still released on the PS4 to this day, I wouldn’t worry too much about 3rd party support.
1:34 Once again, there should be a huge asterisk on that example. The Game Boy sales are combining the Game Boy and Game Boy Color for one. Two, it lasted 12 years before the GBA replaced them. The DS came out less than four years after the GBA. Context matters. 💯
Naturally, if the Switch 2 sells poorly, everything will be ported to the Switch 3.

It cannot fail, if it has perfect backwards compability.
Even the crappy PS2 was a huge success as 100+ million PSX owners swapped their system into successor.
The biggest thing switch 2 has going for it is that Nintendo is not releasing a handheld to cannibalize the market of their console.

And why do you care about specs in a Nintendo console?
even if its named something like "switch U", what it needs is great advertising that tells what it is + a great catalogue of games
the wii u didnt fail because of its name, it failed because the marketing was awful and there were hardly any games in its first few years
nintendo basically did the opposite of everything the wii u did for the switch, i think that we're in good hands and pray it goes well
The question is not "What if?" it's "How could it?"
The GBA succeed more than the GBC
Marketing would work if they simply call it "Switch 2", nintendo needs to stop trying at cool quirky names and follow the other consoles.

@@paperluigi6132 Like a few weeks ago, they brought back the very obscure Famicom Detective Club series.

That's honestly not an easy question to answer, that's a question anyone who creates something ask themselves, Nintendo is no different, you can't tell the success of a product until consumers get a hold of it. We can't expect everything we make to be 100% successful that's not how the world works unless you have the mindset of a perfectionist. All I can say is, I hope the Switch 2 is a hit, but on the off chance its not, at least they tried
Switch should not be in the name of the console at all so people know it’s a brand new system. Calling it switch 2 would be as bad as Wii U

Impossible! There are so many reasons that it will not versus reasons that it will fail. Nintendo is widely considered synonymous with electronic gaming. Even if Nintendo ceased to exist, people all over the world connect electronic gaming to Nintendo.
What does SEGA have to do with this?

Not a Chance in he((. Nintendo handhelds are Gold
I can’t see the successor being a flop similar to the Wii U. Nintendo is in a way better position now, and I feel they are going to make smart decisions with this next console.
I doubt it will do Switch numbers but I think Nintendo would have to be incredibly inept to fuck up the next console after having experienced the Wii U situation. At the very least I see it doing 80 mil.
If it’s a very big speed, quality and power upgrade from the original it’ll do well.
I think the biggest problem with all this discourse is that we are all calling it te Switch 2. What happens if it's nothing like the Switch? The Wii was a massive success and the Wii U (which was a Wii 2) was a flop. Will Nintendo do something similar again? We all WANT a Switch 2 but will Nintendo deliver a Switch 2 or another whole new way to play?
Personally I want a Switch with 3D support. I loved the 3D feature on the 3DS and the super creative ways developers used it.
