Mob of the Dead and Origins set the blueprint for what Zombies would become. But, in between them, there was one more map that released for Black Ops 2. Instead of looking forward like its neighbours, Buried instead took a look back at everything that made Zombies great up until now.
"A Zombies Retrospective" is a series in which I play through each Call of Duty Treyarch Zombies map chronologically, and analyze its place in the series.

Thank you for this video, so well done and entertaining. I'm catching this late, but I was looking at levels I've worked on and found this.
I'm one of level designers on this level (many designers helped make this one) and I'm so grateful that people enjoy it, and have fond memories playing with friends and family, it truly brings me joy to hear! We had a ton of fun making it and got to be creative with some off the wall designs. Thanks everyone for playing!

This was my absolute favorite map. The mechanic of the time bomb was epic and ground breaking . And who can forget Leroy! So fun man. THANK YOU
We used to use it as a self revive/save point. Even when the game was years old I was one of those players that would jump online and escort noobies to a massive game.
The only mechanic I loved equally in the games series was the hatchet on Mob.
Mob was my #2 favourite map.
#3 Was Moon. I loved Moon for the Lore mostly. It was so vast. The vril device was ahead of its time. Using conspiracy theories about element 115 before it was even an official isotope.

Have you ever made other games or maps. Massive respect to you guys. I made a map on DOOM 2016. Balancing co-op is trick af. I made a sprint mechanic with a detonation at the feet with green effects. This allowed a player pinned down by ai to get the space needed to escape a needless death by floors being "sticky" lol

The only thing I've found close to Arthur picking up a zombie to make doing Easter eggs easier is in Cold War Firebase Z. You could use the soul trap device thing that's part of the Easter egg to trap the last zombie without ending the round, thus giving you complete safety to smash through the Easter egg solo

I dont care much for newer zombies simply because you have to actually learn the proper things to do constantly. The biggest pull for zombies for the average, non-hardcore player was that you could just hop in and play, you didn't need to study the easter eggs just to play the map normally. Nowadays you have to learn all the fancy shit or you get like 1/4th of the content. Easter eggs are fun and cool, but should not be required to play the map normally. Thats why i don't mind them having a guide in bo6, if you need to study to play the game its not worth spending the time to play it

I don't know if it's just me, but I swear the mystery box on Buried has better odds of giving you a "good" weapon even beyond the wonder weapons.
Pulling a Type 25 or War Machine feels way less common than pulling dual Five Sevens or a HAMR. And there's the perma-perk that disables Teddy Bears and increases the chance for better weapons on top of that.

    • @woofspider330
      @woofspider330 Год назад +17

One of the perma-perks was a teddy bear on top of the box. After a few "bad" guns in a row, you get the teddy bear, and you'll get a bunch of good guns for awhile. I think they had perma-Jug, and maybe perma-speed cola as well iirc. They werent quite as good as the perks themselves, but really helped with the sense of feeling overpowered

    • @ClonedGamer001

@@woofspider330 I mentioned that at the end of my comment. But both with and without that perk it seems like the box on Buried has better luck.
I have a distinct memory of acquiring that perk on Die Rise and then my next spin giving me an RPG, meanwhile on Buried it's like "bad" weapons are taken out entirely with it active.
Almost like the box luck with that perk active on other maps is the default luck on Buried, and then the having the perk on Buried pushes it even further or something.

I don’t know if you create these videos entirely yourself meaning what you have to say is original or whether you read off some summary of the map, but what you have to say is always so carefully crafted and well spoken.
This channel best highlights the key pros & cons of a map and how it relates to Treyarch’s overall development.
Each video is well thought out and I have to say, I’m impressed with the successful chronological development made in each video with respect to the maps features.

Alright so, concerning the buildable system. TranZit and Die Rise could've done with the Mob and Origins system. The original buildable ideal, was to have teamwork to build everything. Which works with four knowledgeable players, and doesn't so much on solo. I recently played a game with randoms on Plutonium, in TranZit where somehow one of the team members took a Pack-A-Punch part and went down and lost it elsewhere. I believe it was done on purpose to grief because he left the game immediately. That is a problem with having things like power and pap locked to a buildable system. However, I continued cruising and played the map in a whole new experience! I obviously thought it was no good that happened, but where else could that happen? This is one reason why I'm glad maps after TranZit left off of the idea of making absolute necessities into buildables.
That being said, only the turbine and zombie shield are worth building on TranZit normally outside of the necessary power and pap, and all of these have all their parts close by! And less parts than other buildables. Die Rise has two buildables, and though they're both four parts a piece, they're both built in the same area where the parts are found. Some will say: "The Tramplesteam on Die Rise is tedious!" I have good news for you! It's entirely avoidable if you juggle parts to the drop off point. It's braindead at that juncture.
Buried however, has far and away the best buildable system in COD Zombies. This is bar none, and objectively true. If you want something at a specific location, you need only find and build one part and let Leroy build the rest of it with candy. However, if you're like me, it's even better! I just periodically let Leroy build them all randomly wherever. I almost never use any of the buildables on this map as they're not necessary, but just fun! All that being said, Mob and Origins do not have the better system here, and Buried would not have been "streamlined" had they made it so.
Buried is my favorite map on BO2, followed closely by Die Rise then TranZit. What?! Those maps are ranked higher than the iconic? Yes. Why? Because they personify zombies before it became a formulaic act in tedium, where everything is; quest this, build that, do this, have that. Origins is a great map, but I have to entirely neglect any of the set-up besides the generators to have a good time, otherwise it's tedious. Mob is unfortunately the least of the good maps on BO2. Set-up is unavoidable. Opening the map is unavoidable. "But wait there Gamerman!" you might say, Buried has tons of stuff to open! All of the Leroy barriers can be flown over with the Paralyzer, which you're guaranteed to get if you have persistent box luck active.
Buried, Die Rise and TranZit are open-ended chaotic maps. They are zombies dialed up to eleven! I'm in no way saying Mob and Origins are bad maps. BO2 has no bad maps. They all accomplish something. There's a difference in taste and opinion here. Most of the community would say I'm insane. TranZit better than Origins? You're crazy! No, I just have different tastes.

you either didnt know or completely forgot the BIGGEST reason you want the Time Bomb.
you can go through the Mansion (while the lights are on) get to the Maze turn around and let the Witches come to you, Kill all but 1 of them, Throw the time bomb down, kill the Witch and pick up the Perk bottle, hit the time bomb to rewind to just before the final witch is killed, kill her again and youd actually get a second free Perk.
and you could do this every 5 rounds so long as you got a Max Ammo in between mansion runs. so you could double up on the Perk gaining from that alone.
me and my friends did it all the time, getting the time bomb was one of our biggest priority's early game.

I have done just about every type of gameplay on Buried as possible, I did the two easter eggs, I remember every glitch spot from the wall in the cave to using the purifier to left up the candy store ledge across from the mystery box spawn and the zombies could only come from one spot and having all perks with the witch house glitches and 3 PAP guns, mine were the Purifier, the Ray Gun MKII, and the AN-94 and then camping in the Jug hallway having traps setup, one of the hardest first room challenges. I spent more time on this map than any other zombies map and I haven’t played zombies since like Infinite Warfare and I didn’t even enjoy it that much, too convoluted. Same with BO4, it looked cool, but was just too non-casual friendly. This map is my all time though, that’s for sure and I think too many people hate on it for no reason.

Am I the only one who miss Jimmy Zielinski zombie style? Jason was a great writer for the storyline of course but it felt too much apart of what zombie was dedicated for. I miss when you can just load a game and survive, in bo3 and further you have to open youtube to find a guide that shows you how to build an insane amount of things that keeps you alive after round 10.. buried was the end of the load and survive era, and I miss it. Today im stuck playing Zielinski maps again and again cause this is my way to play zombie : load -> power -> pap -> survive as long as you can.

Getting everything to last till round 100 on round 1 isn't engaging. By round 20 it gets boring af because you know you cant die for another 50 plus rounds. Origins and even mob you can be overpowered but not nearly as fast and even then the challenge those maps ( mostly origins ) balances out the op factor. Yes a infinite damage throwable but a recharge time and only kills so many with 1 throw and yes you can have a ice staff but it doesn't work instantly and the panzer. I'd say revelations was the only map to say here have fun no difficulty just go crazy.

I bought buried like 6 months ago. Never played any bo2 DLC, I know the reputation but I bought buried first anyway. I don’t regret it in the slightest, the map is awesome. The map was very confusing and a lot more expansive then I’d ever imagine. Took a long time to figure out where everything is but I like the design despite at the time not understanding most of it. One thing of note is that didn’t know about what happens when you enter the witches house and it was pretty spooky the first few times through. The whole map’s aesthetic is great and eery and made me feel uncomfortable for a while. Especially the maze. I got so lost in the maze. I couldn’t figure out where pack was (or that I was even heading towards it). And I also didn’t know you had to go back in the house to get back to the main area. The whole maps vibe Was such a feeling of helplessness… that was until I started figuring out the map.. but it’s still great. But it’ll just never be as good as it was when I didn’t get the layout. But it’s still a lot of fun. It just feels like it got too easy after I started understanding everything

My friends and I would've loved this map if it had a way to get multiple Paralyzers, the fact that it was findable round one didn't help. Basically we raced to the box and as soon as anyone found it someone else would start to throw or try to get the guy who had found it to die, it was even more of an issue with randoms online.
I wish we had stuck to it now that I see all this map had to offer.
