  • @quietspacearts
    @quietspacearts 2 года назад

    to keep the chain from slipping off whilst measuring and cutting use a draw pin or tack into the first link of chain then measure from there and cut

    Hiya Lady Stardust, a question or ten for you, I'll be asking Lorna Romanenghi the same, I would love to know from two similar but very different jewellers. First, how do you spell, jeweller? As you can see I use two L's but Grammarly corrects all my spelling mistakes instead of just saying, no, wrong, Says uses one!
    Who do you wear jewelry for? & why? Is it the bling factor? To show you belong to something? American class ring? To show you are with someone, engagement ring? To remember a moment in time? To remember someone?
    OK me:- I wear at the moment two small silver rings I made. Partly to show people what I'm making now, but more to remind me that I can! What? I often get stuck making something, these remind me I got stuck before so telling myself, "I can't do this!" They remind me that, yes I can & have. I made an 'Idiots chain' bracelet, the first thing I made in silver. I broke it so when I can remember how the links go I will repair it & yes it's pure look at me! Bling! Plus how good am I!!! Hehehe. All shiny on my wrist, look what I made me! Yep, narcissistic in the extreme! I'm a bloke! Look at birds, no feathered ones, the male is always the more highly decorated!!! Me! Or my excuse.
    A word that kept recurring was 'Remember' I have a friend whose wife of many years dies from Covid. He asked me to make him something, my first thought was, WHY ME??? I didn't think I was good enough!!! Then I remembered a chain in a chain-making book. 1mm silver wire in 6mm id rings. Some pre-soldered & stretched to ovals, some just soldered. All soldered in the end. Hook a round ring onto an oval. Thread a round ring over the oval then a round ring hooked on the oval, trapping the second round ring. Oval ring, threaded round, hooked round, etc, etc... You end up with a bracelet of alternating round & oval 6mm jump rings with a 6mm round jump ring trapped on the oval. The bracelet was them with the traped round jump rings being the children & happy events revolving around his wife & life. He burst into tears...
    Stay safe...Steve...

      I usually spell jewellery and jeweller. Online I tend to use jewelry and jeweler more often, simply because of the seo, tags and all that stuff. As a lot of my audience is based in the USA, they are more likely to use jewelry in their search, so that's the main reason in my case :)
      I wear jewellery mostly for myself, to compliment the look, to feel good and to adorn myself. The latter is also connected to the second one, which is that I wear jewellery for others too :) Most of my own pieces have a meaning, a story or history behind them. So I guess, all of the reasons you've listed!
      I love what you've said and I second that! Bling all the way!! Gotta look FABULOUS!! :)) And of course to manifest the skills too, the hobby that I love, and to show off what I've made. Also, maybe ancourage others to buy my craft? Yes.
      And I absolutely LOVE that bracelet. I'm sure it's a very precious, meaningful and beautiful piece for your friend xx

      @@TheArtOfMetalsmithingWe spoke yesterday, he will not take it off, the grandkids wanted to try it on, as children do, but no way! I would love anyone reading this to make them if asked for something & it works for the client. I think I was led to the design for a reason, it's not my design I claim nothing. But it says so much about the people who have gone & those left behind!
