The true stars of the movies are the animators and special effect artists. Without them, any movie that used special effects, and cgi, probably wouldn't be as big of a hit as they are. Thank you to all of the people that make the magic come true
So much detailed that pikachu designer put on that movie even the reflection of the eye and the glass, it's made me think HOLY SHIT! The creator must be addicted to the perfection....

Most of this stuff is standard in the industry. Otherwise, you end up with an uncanny valley effect where things LOOK real but don't resemble reality enough to be considered real.

The designers get to follow directions and suggest what the model will look like, but ultimately the art director/director/producers get the final say on how the model looks. The modellers just do what they are told and have just as little say as the animators.

I didn't enjoy the plot, but the animators made everything feel so real and vivid that made the movie fantastic. When the movie started and we got the first scene of the city I started quietly crying because of how beautiful everything was, felt like I was having a dream. EDIT: Well, Justice Smith said himself at 7:58, it was like a dream come true.
Now if only the rest of hollywood would do more live action anime justice by following the integrity of the anime instead of thinking what would appeal to the public and make the real fans(who will be the ones watching the damn movie) angry.
This is why i want to watch the movie again once they release on Blu Ray. There's so many details that are unheard of especially at 5:50. I did not know about that reflection.

It is pretty significant to think that DP's VFX team managed to balance transitioning from real locations to CG elements. The suspension of disbelief is so convincing it hurts Sonic! 😆
When people respect the source material and the fandom, and put their best into it, the end result is often remarkable. Loved the movie, and kudos to those who worked so hard on it.
i mean they may have just released the trailers like that to make "free advertising" and they did change the design in a way thats actually acurate to my childhood playing with sonic ((as in the game))
this film is some quality work. it could have been a cg-heavy nightmare but the careful use of practical effects and real locations and the diligence of the vfx artists made detective pikachu stand out not just as a great general-audience film but also as a wonderful treat for vfx nerds! thank you to everyone involved for bringing my favorite fictional world to life with such love
Videos like this make me really amazed at how far special effects have come. I think my favorite part was the bit about how they did the reflections in the eyes because it’s such a small detail that most people don’t notice.
one thing I have to say as a pkmn fan: the effort put into these, collaboration with the realistic pkmn artist.. really was worth it. the models are so amazing I'd calmly accept them in an official game at some point in the future

Detective Pikachu was such a great movie! but it's amazing to watch the behind the scenes with just so much time and effort that's been put into the film. I've already seen it twice in cinemas 😅 But that Mr.Mime scene gets me every time! 🤣
Justice smith did so good in this film, imagine what he could do as miles morales in a live action spider man movie. He also has the physique and looks to be miles
i can imagine a time traveler from the early days of film watching this movie and being completely blown away by how real it looks, hell, i'm blown away by it!
It looks like you could reach out and stratch pickachu like a dog, this really struck me when I was in the cinema and amongst other things I think that's why this will be such an enduring movie
I 'like' that they spent a whole freaking year on design, many artists doing possibly hundreds of drawings but at the end they just did them exactly as they look in the anime but with realistic skin detail and lighting.
I think they did a fantastic job with the character design and the movie as a whole. All this hard work paid off because this is one of the best video game movies ever put on the big screen. It’s the best video game movie I’ve ever seen, idk if there are better ones out there.
The moment I saw the Pokemons in the promotional videos, I was FLOORED by the animation and design. How they managed to make them 1) incredibly faithful to the source material, 2) hyper realistic, AND 3) avoiding the uncanny valley is incredible. And my gosh, they are so darn cute. I thought it was a really interesting design decision for them to give Pikachu such human-like facial muscles (like his brow bone), but they pulled it off well. Bravo to this animation team--so happy to hear that they worked closely with the Pokemon company. Maybe people will finally cut CGI some slack ;)

It looks like you could reach out and stratch pickachu like a dog, this really struck me when I was in the cinema and amongst other things I think that's why this will be such an enduring movie

They put a lot more thought into this than I expected, and now I appreciate the film a lot more. I haven’t seen it yet, but now I really want to.

I 'like' that they spent a whole freaking year on design, many artists doing possibly hundreds of drawings but at the end they just did them exactly as they look in the anime but with realistic skin detail and lighting.
When you thoroughly take your time and research an anime before releasing it to the public...

I think they did a fantastic job with the character design and the movie as a whole. All this hard work paid off because this is one of the best video game movies ever put on the big screen. It’s the best video game movie I’ve ever seen, idk if there are better ones out there.

The moment I saw the Pokemons in the promotional videos, I was FLOORED by the animation and design. How they managed to make them 1) incredibly faithful to the source material, 2) hyper realistic, AND 3) avoiding the uncanny valley is incredible. And my gosh, they are so darn cute. I thought it was a really interesting design decision for them to give Pikachu such human-like facial muscles (like his brow bone), but they pulled it off well. Bravo to this animation team--so happy to hear that they worked closely with the Pokemon company. Maybe people will finally cut CGI some slack ;)
