- After a 35-year absence, I return to one of Australia's most iconic race circuits - the Calder Park ThunderDome - to photograph my white Porsche Boxster on a bright spring day. Built to host NASCAR and AUSCAR races, this unique oval circuit was designed to replicate the iconic Charlotte Motor Speedway, and held its first NASCAR event in late 1987.

Could almost hear the memories pouring out when you stopped to look around the stadium 👍
Yeah, it felt like I've lived a couple of lifetimes since I'd last set foot in there. It was eerie.
It helps when the subject is so appealing, but you got some great shots! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, George. I just had it lowered yesterday, so now it's even prettier!
Thanks for this, I really miss that place, was there for almost all of the auscar races and even spent my 21st birthday doing the fast lap around the track.
That's really cool. I've missed it, too - it was sad to see it in such a state.
Interesting circular sort of video you lined up here . I like it . A touch of melancholy, some ghosts, a certai. rustiness and the obvious glamour . Cool .
Thanks, Chris.
@@peterfritzphoto I see that there’s a lot that goes into the videos, so congrats .
@@chriscummins4282 More than most know. Thanks, mate.
Nostalgia is a great sauce, but I can tell that you never let it override the sustaining lessons underneath and you never take life for granted or regret any memories - if that makes sense. Beautiful shots!
Understood. Thanks, Juanita. 🙂
Hi Peter, I really enjoy your work and life experience, keep producing it for you and you have a worldwide audience 😀 , in rainy Ireland
Thanks a lot, Andrew - that's really nice of you. I'd desperately love to visit Ireland to drive your roads and photograph your landscapes.
Thanks for the video. I have driven past Calder Park ThunderDome multiple times but have never had the chance to see inside or got to understand it's history. I also miss my 981 Boxster... a car that gives so much pleasure. Enjoy.
Thank you, Alan.
Awesome photos! Very good to know how you managed to get access on the circuit .
Hope to see more videos like this one.
Thank you
Thanks, Rodrigo. Next time, I’m going to get permission! 😄
I *really* like the sort of black-and-white shot with the very vivid taillights at 6:11.
Thanks, Troy. I'm glad someone noticed that one. 🙂
@@peterfritzphoto I am really into that sort of thing. I had a B/W portrait of Marilyn M. on my office wall before I moved where it was B/W with red lipstick.
Or the movie Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. Remember?
@@TroySwezey Yep - I sure do. I like doing this with some of my images to draw the eye and simplify the superfluous.
It’s always and interesting experience going back to places that had meaning especially from your distant past , sometimes a good idea sometimes less so like who had the audacity to build a garage in my grandmothers beautiful front garden and others like the WinterGarden in Auckland that still has its charm and is being beautifully maintained by the city. Great vehicle shots Peter but of course I wouldn’t expect anything less from you 😀
Yep - time marches on with or without us, and the only thing that won't change is... things will keep changing. Thanks as always, Chris.
Love these images, they turned out amazing considering what you had to work with.
Many thanks.
The framing of those shots really shows your photography skill & experience.
Thank you, mate - I appreciate that.
Hi Peter! I’m really inspired by your content and can relate to most the things you say in your videos. I have a white MX-5 right now as well, and I might upgrade to the Boxster or even the Lotus Emira someday. Would you ever consider the Lotus Emira for yourself? Thanks!
Thank you, Jimmy. I would *absolutely* consider the Emira! I love that car. Thanks for watching, mate.
Always enjoy your videos, keep up the good work mate. If you ever need a 718 Boxster for your content please reach out. 😇
Many thanks, Donald. I’d love to do a video about the 718 Boxster. Matter of fact, a video about the car and it’s owner might be even better.
Glad to see your camera bag DOES fit inside the trunk. 😂
Lol. The trunk is HUGE!
Not is big as TRUCK! Haha! @@peterfritzphoto
@@ScottymanPhoto True that.
Great video, Peter, as always!
What's happening at 6:21? Everything seems to wobble up and down.
Oh, yeah... how freaky is that? The original footage was quite bumpy because I was walking briskly around the car, so I applied Premiere Pro's 'warp stabilizer' affect to smooth it out. I didn't notice what it did to the car until you pointed it out. Bugger... I'll have to walk a lot more smoothly next time and ditch the digital smoothing in post production. Thanks, mate.
Thx for sharing. Is that the base model or the S model? Either way it is eye catching. Looking to buy a 2015 S in the next few months after being a devoted M3 driver. DRS Real Estate Investments in Washington DC
You won’t regret the switch from the M3 for a single moment. The Cayman is a bewitching car, delicate, precise, musical, it gets into your heart like no other ❤
Hey Derek. Mine is a base model, but it's blessed with the Sport Chrono package and the Sport Exhaust, so it sounds glorious! You won't regret the Boxster or Cayman. The M3 is brilliant - always has been. I won't say the Boxster or Cayman are better, but the driving experience is definitely special. Thanks for dropping in.
Thank you for the reply. Wanted a Porsche 911 since I was a toddler with my smaller replica of the 911 but watching all the RUclips video of the Boxster I have changed my mind. Thx again.
@@derekstephens8340 Anytime, Derek. The Boxster - especially the 987.2 and 981 - is a brilliant machine. Have you seen my other videos about the Boxster?
Peter I actually have watched your video comparing the 911 and Boxster and you mentioning it was not worth the extra $$$ for the purchase of your childhood dream car. That video got me to sway more towards my decision.
Made me want to pamper mine but on the other side of the globe it’s a mucky mess and she’s forlorn in the garage
Yep, the world is teetering on the edge right now. I'm so grateful to at least be geographically distant from most of it.
