The meindl desert foxs are my fav boot. But thats apples to orange. I really like the Aku Pilgrims and ive just got a pair, not warn yet of Altberg warrior Aqua's, which i really liek the look off, and will be going on a short walk in them tomorrow to see it they need breaking in or not. The Akus are branded a not needed to ne warn in, and they are correct.
I cant recal if my Desert fox boots needed breaking in, but i love them boots. Sadly they have just died, on my after sbout 10 years servise.
Got my eue on the sand colour altbergs, but the wife aint having it at the mo.

Thanks for the video. Like you I bought a pair of these second hand (and ended up selling them on ebay which I now regret) . My observations of the boots were that they are extremely well made, however, mine could agitate my left ankle (I went online and read that some other people have had this problem I think it rubs a tendon or something). The toe box is extra roomy to make room for wearing thicker winter socks and still allowing your toes to wiggle to allow circulation of blood in the cold weather. They have very little flex on them compared to the lighter weight hiking boots which I am more used to. Basically I was using them in the wrong conditions I was using them for a general hiking boot but I wish I still had them for when it snows. In comparison I just bought a really nice pair of Haglofs Goretex boots (second hand) which would cost a fortune if new. I still think the Haix even beat these Hoglofs for comfort and "wiggle" room for your cold toes. Thanks for the history lesson I have never heard of that castle before.

Thanks for your input, yes you are correct the flex because the leather does seem a little on the stiff side, however I did find them comfortable well made and for the price very good value Take care out there

Hello Bob, I am off to Dubai in December Inshallah and will hopefully be visiting a place that will be of special interest to you, the oldest Mosque in the UAE, so watch out for that perhaps in the New Year Take care out there

Rock solid boots, need a bit of breaking in, good toe box if you have a wide foot and last for donkeys years! hope you enjoy them mate.

Thanks for your comments, yes re breaking in even after 500km plus not sure they are completely broken in because the leather is still stiff but as you say will last a long time Take care out there

I have the High Liability Dutch version boots. Very durable and so on, but my feet are soaking wet in hotter temperatures.

Hello you might want to try their British Army Desert boots, which are made for very hot conditions. I have used them in 43 C plus and found them to be ok from the heat point of view Take care out there

My Haix HL have started to seperate from the soles after less than 500km very dissapointed with them, they are comfy and supportive but having just a glued on sole is pretty poor in my opinion. I wont buy anymore thats for sure.

Hello sorry to hear that there is a condition called Hydrolysis which can cause the cushion midsole to fail. I will give a link to Meindl who give an explanation to why this can occur. Ironically if the boot is used on a regular basis there is left chance this will happen. Also it seems that this can happen to any brand Take care out there

@@ontherunplmr1218 seems like built in obsolescence, the better option would be to just change the way they make them if they know what causes it to happen.

Good point, the older boots do not have cushion but have Directed Molded soles, which are perhaps more durable but do not have the comfort properties. I think an issue here is that military boots when used in military are not seen as long service items being replaced after a shorter period that in the civilian market Take care out there
