@TheTaleofTheIronSnail
Jim Green is a new kid on the block in the US market and they are quickly taking boot nerds by storm. We're not talking Red Wings or Viberg -- we're talking a tiny little South African company. Their most famous boot to date, the Jim Green African Ranger is built FOR African Rangers to help them stop poaching. Helping them product elephants, rhinos, cheetahs, and the like! Today we dive into some of the coolest mens boots I've touched in a while! Thanks Jim Green & Gareth!

Mid-Week Announcement perhaps Michael?
Any update on the Mammoth Jacket? I thought it was supposed to ship at the end of February.
@@giuseppijimi hey! Did you leave a review today? I’ve been trying to contact you - email info@theironsnail.us if you can!
The buffalo model seems mostly out of stock but there's a similar one.
lf you didn't know who the Boers were before starting this video, you should've stayed in school longer and learned a little history.
Jim Green's are legendary in South Africa. They make great stuff and they support local communities! 10 out 10 would recommend!
Currently wearing my Jim Green Barefoot Ranger boots. Fricken love this! Wide toe box, zero drop, full leather, boots. No frills, just quality materials made into a quality boot. I wear them almost every day. Only took about a day of wearing to break in and have only been getting comfier every since.
I'm wearing the barefoots daily also. They are a game changer as almost the same construction and quality but zero drop and no steel shank means they are just 100% comfortable from the moment you put them on. They are the perfect comfortable shoe during an urban rainy season.
Learned this from watching the Rose Anvil 2 interview, Jim Green doesn't use Vibram soles cause Vibram doesn't do business in South Africa. There is NO supplier so no soles
As an electrician I wear African Rangers as work boots. They’re great. Comfy, durable, good traction on various materials, tough in a tough environment. And a bargain.
Wearing the Buffalo's right now. One of the best things I've ever worn, period
Did they salt out like crazy when they got wet?
Not really, though I followed JGs conditioning guide before wearing them in wet conditions
@@bellinghambaseball2The other commenter read my mind. Definitely condition them. I really recommend against wearing them without conditioning first. The African buffalo leather is so ridiculous. It’s so stiff and uncomfortable. I’ve have put a couple intense hikes into them and they still aren’t fully broken in. Conditioning them first helps tremendously.
Thanks for the recognition and attempts at correct pronunciation of our language and people! I have been involved in volunteer anti poaching work and expedition hiking. . . I can confirm that the South African bush is no joke, had a company politely ask me to not buy their boots again after I sent them photos of what their top product looks like, barely surviving (but never to be worn again) one expedition. . . I have had burnt wood pierce straight through the bottom sole of high brand working mountain boots! Vibram soles, they don't last 7km in the bush, trust someone who spent the money and tried.
I’m just curious, how do you think Vietnam era type jungle boots would perform in the bush?
that has got to be the single most wholesome company i have heard of to date. thanks a bunch for sharing!
Oh my God, am I actually more fashionable than snail man now? Because I've wanted these for almost a year and got them last year for Christmas.
Btw, the brown boot/green laces combo work unbelievably well with a sage Barbour Beufort and it's turned into my favorite outfit.
What do you think of them?
The ad is hilarious and now we need to know what 90% off one orange costs
Taylor said it costs less than two!
I have an exact pair and they are an amazing comfortable, durable leather boot. They have a sneaker-like feel instead of a clunky boot. Definitely one of my most worn shoes in warmer weather.
3:30 Boers (/bʊərz/ BOORZ; Afrikaans: Boere ([ˈbuːrə]) . The word boer means ''farmer'' in both Dutch and Afrikaans...
Got their Razorbacks a few months ago and they are solid especially for winter. My only regret is not getting them earlier when they were not as popular but much cheaper. Might cop African Rangers for warmer weather.
Oh! How much cheaper were they??
@@TheIronSnail Back when Rose Anvil did the first video on them I believe the South African Rands converted to roughly 120 Euros + VAT but now they have a distributor in Europe and I paid 180. Still very worth it.
@@TheIronSnail I bought my first pairs of Razorbacks, Stockman, and vellies in February of 2021, just checked my email. I paid $119 for the Razorback and Stockman, and $89.99 for the vellies. They've definitely went up a bit and are still an excellent value, but back then.....
@@dubester1982The Stockman is $159 now
Yep I paid the same price for my Razorbacks. It was one of the first big shipments that’s Jim Green had available from Amazon to the US. I use my Razorbacks as work boots/hiking boots, our property has steep grades and the lug soles do great for stability. They have held up well the past three years and the only thing I added was a more cushioned insole.
I just bought the same ones! I love them. When I boot oiled them the red color came out and made them pop. They are so nice !
I have the Buffalo skin ranger. Awesome boot. Nice thick, durable leather. I wear them on hikes or to work or just daily wear. They’re comfy and not overpriced. Can’t wait to bring them out again for the summer. Good to see Jim Green getting more and more exposure. I hope we get elephant leather rangers some day
You have a very good on camera presence. Also, I enjoyed the commercial break. Your girlfriend if that's who she is, got just the right blend of tongue in cheek and seriousness. As for Jim Green, I have 12+ pair. I lost count.
Love Jim Green! Wearing my black ARs at work right now, also have a pair of fudge ones, 2 pairs of Razorbacks(wedge and lug soles), a pair of their vellies, and a pair of their Stockman Chelsea's. Awesome boots, really all I'll wear now
That's a great line up!!
@@TheIronSnail much appreciated! Love the brand, and their customer service is very responsive and easy to deal with. Rare these days
Appreciate the support! Glad the boots are doing the job for you.
This is definitely the problem with Jim Green. You can’t stop at one pair. I can’t even decide between three different models for my third pair. Once you have one, you just want all of them. And they have such great variety, all of it useful for different things and all perfectly designed and reasonably priced, that you can totally justify every purchase. Combine that with some amazing RUclips presence and Jim Green will own the world by next year. You heard it here first.
My fellow South Africans, today is a good day. Also veldskoen vellie means "leather field shoe" in English
Picked up a pair in water buffalo hide last year. Took more breaking in than the softer leather but they are practically bulletproof.
Thanks bro! If I didn't come across your short about these I wouldn't have known about them. Ordered a pair last night. Can't wait! I went with the fudge colorway. Made with crazyhorse leather
4:06 “Guttsiest move I ever saw, man”, I said after acknowledging his slight and well founded hesitation and then going for it anyway. I know I’m not alone in loving the fact that your ads are just as fun as your content. Thank you!
Now review the barefoot edition. They are basically the rugged leather without the steel shank, so they are out of the box as comfortable as a sneaker. Someone with wide feet I really like the large toe box.
Got a pair in September , and having been wearing them to work in a kitchen and cycling commute. Would recommend.
I have two pair of these. Black and Buffalo. I wear the black instead of dress shoes. I wear the Buffalo skins everywhere.
Oh the black ones I bet look sweet
I have the African Ranger boots in Buffalo and can't say enough good about them! True to Brannik device fitting and well good looking, I get comments on the regular!
I bought a pair 4 months ago. They are my go to shoe now.
Got a pair a few months ago and they're great.
Jim Green makes a great boot!
I have a pair of AR8'S and love them. Just did a rookie review 😂
Jim Green is an amazing company for all they do, on top of producing a great product!!
Just wish i didnt get robbed by the Canadian government to buy them 🤷♂️ still well worth it and will be buying more from them.
Especially considering how easy they make it to custom order and their quick turnaround.
Now i have to decide if i want the roughout or Buffalo 🙈
Thanks for the video!!
Cheers, beers and whiskey 🤠 🥃
I'm team rough out!!
you could request roughout buffalo leather
The buffaloes take more breaking in but they are bulletproof. Soak the inside in hot water and wear them with thick wool socks till they dry. Then oil them up good. They may outlive you.
This is cool. I wore Clarks DBs all the time when I was growing up in Australia. Don't know why I stopped. Perhaps it was the lack of protection around the ankle. These Jim Greens solve that problem.
My custom Rangers are starting production now! Can't wait to get them....oh, and my Russel's Backcountry's are AMAZING. Your video put me onto them. They are quite literally the most comfortable boots I own.
also wow, the production value is super high on this video, and that at sub 100k followers?! insane, deserves so much more than that!
Excellent video about an excellent product!
Very cool boots and a great video.
Well done, man!
Vellies are the first shoes I've owned in life. Never once did I think that an American will one day review a pair of vellies😂
I just got the Barefoot version of these love them so awesome!
I use a steel toe capped version for industrial version used in industry Jim Green , Best boots I have ever had.
The AR8 boot from Jim Green is probably their best boot.
Thanks for the kind words, appreciated. AR8 is also a great option, built for those extra rugged days!
This 👍🏻
That ad read was brilliant!
My Son and I love ours and we’ll be getting more in Custom orders.
Good video on Jim Green boots 🥾 and may I say I am enjoying them myself. At present time I 2pairs of Chuckka rough out and smooth. I am wearing the African Rangers as watch the video. Also a new pair of Baobab Boots they are like leather tanks for the foot. Looking forward to some custom pairs.
Looks great
I have these buffalo ones too! I got them on a pre-order about a year ago.
They are tanks!!
Jim Green boots are awesome. I got into them via their barefoot African Ranger. I love zero drop wide toe shoes and when I heard about their African Barefoot Rangers through Rose Anvil, I had to get a pair. They are great and I loved them so much that I bought a regular pair African Ranger boots and the Baobab as well. These are great boots.
Been wearing African rangers for my primary general shoe for a year and thinking…. Thinking…. Thinking more……
5 months. A year and 5 months.
They’re about due for a refresh. The sole is getting pretty worn but they’re still a good shoe.
Probably the best boots I’ve ever owned. I’m new to quality boots but they have sizes to fit my big feet.
I’ll probably get these resoled not long after I get my next good boot which I think will be Thorogoods?
The Jim Greens needed better insoles for me. After that, they were amazing.
The cap toe is pretty tough. I’ve dropped tools on it and it took care of my feet. I’m no construction guy but these have seen enough work for them to be used in the yard, shop, and working on things in my opinion.
These are work boots that look surprisingly good in my opinion.
I wish I could find something close to these in price and quality made in America.
I’d also probably buy them again instead of anything else if they didn’t start removing all the size options and seem to be clearing them out of Govx.
I’ve had bad luck with some other “affordable” options, so I’ve been really happy with these.
As for your second to last sentence; what is the deal with that? Ive been contemplating buying a pair of barefoot rangers and was browsing on Amazon... Came back a couple weeks later and they pulled a bunch of their boots from the Amazon storefront including the barefoots. Whats the deal with that?
I have the Razorback, Stockman, and the African Ranger in African Buffalo. Now im considering the AR8. I love Jim Green!
I’m heading down this road also. Soon I will need a dedicated Jim Green wardrobe.
I mean closet, cupboard, storage, if anyone was confused.
AR8 ftw, would absolutely recommend
Ohh I needed a new casual semi dress boot and those look like they will fit the bill better than a Thursday one
I bought mine when they were released in the US in I think Feb, 2022. I put 6.5 miles on mine today, and I am reminded how uncomfortable they are. Lol. Wouldn't buy again I don't think. The fit is really strange. I like how they look though.
The barefoot zero drop Ranger is fantastic.
I like what you said about the toebox not being high enough! I have skipped through these Jim Green boots and opted for Caterpillar as a result of the flat toebox.
Hey man, this video made my day. Keep making these banger videos about cool shoes meant for cool people. Hope you're doing well!
I have a pair of wingtips made in SA that are 46 years old. I believe they are made from water buffalo hide. They are in great shape, almost as good as new!
Such a cool brand
I currently own two pairs of Jim Green's, the Vellie and Outback Chelsea. They have very quickly become my favourite shoes and I plan on moving to Jim Green's for my hiking boots, I just need to figure out what pair. They break in quick and get comfier with every single wear and are built to outlast you! Would highly recommend these shoes and boots, especially if your a ZA local like me!!
I would say the African Big 3 in boots in my opinion number one is the Rogue RB5 followed by Jim Green and Groundcover boots.
Very Informative video!
Love everything aboutt this video bro
Amazing content and execution
Had my razor backs for over a year now ...put them through snow, ice and rain and they still going strong
I didn't know Hank and John Green had a secret third brother who made shoes!
The most practical BOOTS for everyday use 😮
African Ranger is a great Summer boot, for colder temperatures I like my Razorbacks or, my absolute favourite, the AR8
💚
Great review! That buffalo leather looks great! What’s your jacket btw? Looks really cool!
Looks good!
Jim Green saved me from the despair that is the US boot marke
Better than modern Clarks !! Top boots !!
Still cant get over teh fact that your channel doesnt have millions of subs. The production, the editing, the filming I mean it's just all so well done.
I love my razorbacks. I wear them basically all day every day
First thing love your channel, I got a reccomend for you and I saw your video on the Danner Mountain Light and I subed instantly. You provide all information you would need without a ton of fluff. With that said though
I have enough addictions and only 2 feet stop recommending badass boots that I want/need to buy damnt. Please think of my poor wallet lol
My JG African ranger BF are hands down my favorite footwear I've ever owned. I don't like to take them off. I'll probably have them make me an ar670-1 pair so I can have a pair when I'm in uniform, too. They take a min to break them in but 💯 worthwhile
Are barefoot minimal zero drop boots allowed in the armed forces ???
I currently wear Adidas Terrex hiking shoes and they work great for pretty much everything but these look reeeeeeeally tempting for when my current pair wears out
Don't judge this boot off this exact version, IMO there is a far better way to get these boots albeit with a little added cost and wait time. Get them custom made (roughly $40 more), get them with the upgraded veg tan leather mid sole, and get the toe stiffener removed. Unless you plan on kicking the crap out of stuff and need toe protection, the toe stiffener is not necessary and just makes them less comfortable, and by removing it your toes will be able to wiggle totally freely without any hot spots, and they'll still have 2 layers of leather at the toe so you'll get more protection than something like sneakers. I opted to keep the steel shank because I wanted more arch stability but you could remove it and get a much more flexible boot if you're into that. Basically what I got ordered is my own version of their Barefoot African Ranger but with the standard sole and drop height and they absolutely are like an overbuilt sneaker.
Had absolutely no idea this channel was a thing, I got a short in my feed and was like “is that the watch guy?” 😂 This is much more my speed
That carrot commercial was so adorable…. That I had to leave and come back to this video later. I did though. Don’t change.
WOOOOOOO a new run of jackets
!!! this is Prologue V2 !!! and an introduction to LEAF LINE!! IM SO EXCITED!! and VERY STRESSED!
@@TheIronSnail I have my wallet ready I’m not missing out on the XL’s
I had never heard of these boots before... so thanks for the video and education. Also, what jacket are you wearing? Looks like a Carhart of Filson type coat and is it lined and warm? Thanks for the videos and keep up the great work.
Well done amigo!!! @jimgreen is the bomb
If they made a loafer.... would you try it?
@@LandLockedSailor69 like, to see how well it burns? I don’t think I understand the question.
Liking and Subscribing because of that carrot ad 😂 way to nail the assignment 🙌🏼
The boots were cool too
I will be in South Africa in July, will try and buy a pair.
I am South African and am wearing my Jim Green Razor Back steel toe boots every day for work. One of my best investments ever, it does take some time to walk them in but as soon as the boots are walked in there is no pair of boots that you will want to wear more than the Jim Green boots . It's like wearing a pair of comfy socks.
When the soles are done for you can always just send them in and get a new pair of soles and the boots are ever lasting.
I RECOMMEND JIM GREEN FOR WORK AND LEISURE ANYTIME!!!!
Love your content man!!! I’m about to get a pair of those for a trip to Ghana West Africa actually!! They are unbeatable for the price!
Thank you!! Perfect place to rock those!!
hah my GF is from there (I, most cerainly, am not). enjoy the shoes and enjoy the trip!
Steve McQueen is still the King of Cool, I’m sorry Michael you can NOT have that moniker it still belongs to Mr. McQueen
Haha love the carrot add. Would love to 3th-wheeling with you and taylor xD
Perusing their website now. Couple questions:
1. Which ones work for wide feet? *Just got to 9:15; answered.
2. Are these easy to re-sole if I’m in the states?
Love your videos! What is the brand of that jacket your wearing in most of the video. I know the video was about these awesome boots but i also found myself wanting to know more about that jacket!
First. Great Wes Anderson esq review Michael.
what colorway are the boots shown in the video. i cant find any with the darker tongue
So I am wondering whether I should perhaps look into buying these and i was wondering whether they would even be worth it. The most important thing for me is that i can comfortably hike in them and do things in camp as i am a scout. So I was wondering what you would say to that?
You should do a video on qiviut it's the undercoat of musk ox. Ik there's one company that makes a qiviut jacket, it's mostly used for small things like scarves
Who makes your canvas jacket?
Just bought some
What jeans model are you wearing in the video? Looks good!
What jacket are you wearing?
The AD was so good it made me download and eat Carrot
RiP they only make them up to size 14's, lol. I need at least a 15 in US Mens. $100 ~ $180 is in the normal price range for shoes in my size, so that's not really too bad. How wide are the shoes? I need 4E width too.
Most comfortable pair of boots I own.
Just received my NUMZAAN boots from Jim Green Footwear 🥾🐸👍 They remind me of Red Wing Shoes - Iron Ranger. These African Ranger type shoes will be a big staple for the company I think. Love what they are doing!
Go Jim Green 🐸 #pepe
“Wow! Yeah, thanks!”
What color of the Vellies are you wearing in the B-roll?
Hahaha imagine if Jim Green was fooling everyone and actually poaching African wild buffalo for boots, that'd be crazy. I have some steel toe jim green razorbacks and 2 months in they've been great! I kinda want a 2nd pair of Jim Greens because they fit my feet so much better than my other boots since they're a lot wider toe box and width
Very cool - they also make barefoot versions. Purchasing a pair to the UK soon. Great 1950s ad ahahaha
