    The building location of the Hardy's Shoe Store on N. Jefferson is still there, and can be seen at the 18:45 mark on the video. It is the Liz Bridal & Quinceanera Shop (large red sign). Shoe Store Manager Johnny Calvin Brewer spotted Oswald as he ducked into the recessed area in front of the shop just as Dallas Police cars, with sirens blaring, were passing by. Brewer said Oswald looked disheveled, and looked like he'd been running. This raised Brewer's suspicions, which is why he followed Oswald down the block and saw him sneak into the Texas Theater.

      Many thanks for your Information, yes I thought that was the shop because of the glass front, We should had stopped and taken some videos at that point, although we were a bit concerned about some of the people hanging out in the area at the time.

      Many thanks, he did change his name and moved to the Isle of Sheppey where he died. I believe he married the daughter of the manager of Coalville Colliery ( small town north of Leicester ) this case was so well known in Leicestershire that they must have known the connection. I have not seen any photos of him in later years.

    Ive had a pair of the original Pilgrim GTX for about 9 years, great boot and the goretex works in Canadian rainforests - but the synthetics on the upper if you do not keep them clean, and heavily DWR treated, will absorb a bunch of water quickly turning the breathable goretex lining into a plastic bag for your foot sweat. But the same goes for any of these lighter weight boots made with more synthetic materials Ive found

    Great job showing the locations. Perhaps the description could be the "alleged"' killer of Tippit. There were many witnesses who described a person or persons that did not match Oswald. The lady on the corner (Helen Markham) did not positively identify Oswald. Another witness (Calloway) saw a person leaving the area but did not see anyone shoot anyone. Those witnesses gave different descriptions of the shooter and different descriptions of the escape routes.

    • @ontherunplmr1218
      @ontherunplmr1218 17 дней назад

      Hello, thanks for your input and you make some valid points ( I did say at one point that Oswald of course was never tried and therefore there can be a question of guilt ) however to me the most telling evidence ( unless planted to frame Oswald ) was the ballistic evidence. Oswald was captured in the Cinema with the S&W revolver, a version of the " Victory model supplied to the British in S&W 38 British , which was then imported back into the states in 38 special. Although most of the examiners could not link the bullets taken from Tippit to that gun they all were able to link the cartridge cases found at the scene to the gun carried by Oswald. So unless there was a massive conspiracy involving numerous people then surly the simplest answers is that Oswald was carrying the gun that killed Tippit, therefore was the killer

    I've had a few problems with mine from new but you usually have a problem or two with new leather hiking boots, that's why you don't buy the cheaper made ones because they have worn out by the time you have them nice and broken in. All in all they will be very good but at the moment they are a bit of a PITA.

    Polyurethane does disintigrate with time, no matter the storage conditions. It isn't really a problem though with army boots as they were never designed or exected to last for years. The old British army boots though, were particularly prone to falling apart as they didn't use the best PU for the DMS (directly molded soles) & no rubber outsole.

    • @ontherunplmr1218
      @ontherunplmr1218 23 дня назад

      Yes you are correct, I read once that the British Army expect boots to last 12 months on average and only 6 months if used in combat, however the more modern boots like Altberg, Haix, Iturri will last a long time like civilian hiking boots is looked after with wax polish etc Take care out there

I don't think there was a walk available 50 years ago. I use my "Defender" boots for hikes in the lower hills in decent weather, but step up to my Altberg "Nordkapps" for higher country. I spent yesterday with 3 friends in the Pentland hills, where I live. I wore my Norwegian patt.77 boots with 2 pairs of socks, as it was some degrees below zero. They would probably be "overkill" for most of England. I get a lot of my outdoor gear from Finland as, if it works over there, it works in Scotland. Until they chucked me out for being too old, I was in the TA, and have an interest in military history. I have several hundred bayonets, various swords, de-activated weapons, including a "Bren" dated 1942. They probably filmed "Naseby" in Spain, as you could hire the Spanish army as "extras". I have no experience with this model of Altberg but I did pick up a pair of Altberg Tabbing boots on ebay for a great price. The tabbing boot is built on the altberg A form last which provides a more narrow heel and wider toe box. They are extremely comfy and extremely well made. They are slightly stiffer in the sole than the more trainer style boots that some people wear. A good thing or bad thing depending on where you use them. I would highly recommend getting a pair of altberg built on the A form last. I would love to hear your opinion on them. Thanks for the video.

      Hello, yes Altberg do make great products, the Defender Boot has now been replaced by an upgraded version called the " Ops" Boot which is formed on the A form last. It will be interesting to see in time if the new boot is adopted by the British Military. Altberg won some of the contracts in 2013 and 2018 MOD awards. Now there is a new tender process under way for the next generation of boots, will be interesting to see which company secures the orders Take care out there

For me, there was too much padding around the ankle area, I understand why they did it, but it was a bit too much and I found that a tad uncomfortable, in a none painful way if that makes any sense, but I bought them for casual day wear and not for trecking over rough ground. They are strong made from Nylon but as I mentioned in my video the straps are not wide enough in my view and over time they just lost their grip. Again as any army surplus item depends on the particular item. I wear Altberg "Defenders" for low level walking, "Nordkapp" for mountains, and Finnish boots for Winter conditions in wilder country. I now live in Scotland, and trek all year round, though, as my 70th birthday is months away, I cannot tab like I used to! Yes, I have visited the museum at Brecon, though not for some years. In the RRW we used to have a leek eating ceremony on St. David's day. This involved eating raw leeks whilst yelling bellicose phrases in Welsh. Happy days!

Am going down to the Gower next week, so will use the "Patrol" boots while I am down there, and swap to the cold weather version when I do some bothying in the Southern Uplands (of Scotland) in November. For the depths of Winter in the Highlands, I use Finnish Army boots. I import most of my Winter gear from Finland, as, if it is designed for Arctic conditions, it will perform in Scotland. Sometimes I see a favourable review for some kit, but I am a bit wary if it has been tested in, for instance the South Downs. January in the Cairngorms is in another league!

    Regards sizing, do these boots come in half sizes do you know? Also in relation to the M - medium fit or L - large , does this size variance relate just to the width of the boot ?

    • @ontherunplmr1218
      @ontherunplmr1218 2 месяца назад

      Hello, no my understanding is that they are not produced in half sizes, I am not sure but I believe the size just changes with the width of the boot. Also if you are finding any difficulty in finding the right size for you , the other boot which is very similar is the Karrimor SF boot, this was also manufactured by Iturri, there are some technical differences but in essence very similar in performance ( I have been out in the mud today with a pair for 12 km ! ) Take care out there

    Have a question What are the best boots to walk in on wet chalky terrain of the South Downs as wet chalk is very slippery. I going to try a pair of well made Army boots as a start. Maybe crampons fitted too and walking poles. Any suggestions? German para boots. As I’ve slipped over twice in normal hiking boots. 👍🏻

    • @ontherunplmr1218
      @ontherunplmr1218 2 месяца назад

      Hello given the current weather conditions ! I guess very slippery at present. I guess some of the Army boots with very good outsoles with large treads are the Swiss KS 90 boots, the Austrian Winter Boots, the Iturri winter boots and the Karrimor SF Winter boots ( manufactured by Iturri) these all tend to be on the heavy side. The Altberg Defender boots, Haix High Liablity are all good. Re the German " Para" boot these were the standard German Army boot my pair are the model 2007 ( earlier models have some issues with delamination of the outsole ) They have an unusual tread pattern, although my pair came with some wear I have not found them to be very good on wet mud so I not sure they would work for you in the conditions you describe. I guess to some extent it depends on what you can get hold of locally ? comfort and fit being the main points Take care out there

Dubai and Abu Dhabi are on the Arabian Sea ( Persian Gulf ) No issues with the heat causing delamination of the outsole, but having a good outsole does help cut down the heat transfer to the foot Take care out there

    Do you know if the Baltes Jungle Boots have the same problem since ive heard some of the leather boots that the german army used in the 90s also split in the soles

    • @ontherunplmr1218
      @ontherunplmr1218 2 месяца назад

      Hello, I have a pair of the Baltes Jungle Boots but not actually used them yet so not sure how they will last. I think the problem you mentioned was common with the German Army model 2000 boot, the issue is Hydrolysis where water reacts with the mid sole and in time breaks down, this then creates delamination of the outsole Seems to be a bigger problem if the boots are kept in storage, actually using the boot helps delay this issue. In later models the 2007 version the mid sole is fully enclosed to prevent water entering the mid sole. Seems to be mentioned on a frequent basis from a wide range of boots, I think them problem with the Combat 95 boot is a little different because seems to be a direct molded sole with no mid sole and I think the rubber compound has broken down due to hardening over time or perhaps faulty materials Again a lot of Army boots are not perhaps designed to last a very long time ( compared to Hiking Boots ) because the troops are going to wear them out perhaps faster than a civilian hiker . Also most likely perhaps cost has played a part Take care out there
