  • In this message, Pastor Jimmy Evans opens up the new series by reminding us that humility is always active in our relationship with Christ. To approach humility, we must seek first the Kingdom of God and know the truth, according to the bible.
    Series: Essential
    Message: Humility is Essential
    Speaker: Jimmy Evans
    Notes:
    Hebrews 6:1-2 (NKJV)
Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to
perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward
God, of the doctrine of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of
eternal judgment. And this we will do if God permits.
    THREE REASONS FOR FOUNDATIONS
    1. Safety
    2. Unexpected Stress
    3. The Superstructure
    Luke 6:46-49 (NIV)
Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? As for everyone who comes to
me and hears my words and puts them into practice, I will show you what they are like. They
are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a
flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. But
the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a
house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it
collapsed and its destruction was complete.
    2 Timothy 4:1-4 (NKJV)
I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the
dead at His appearing and His kingdom: Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of
season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come
when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they
have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away
from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.
    Hebrews 6:1 (NKJV)
Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to
perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward
    God…
TRUTH #1: We are not free agents. We are owned by God and are totally accountable to Him
in every area of our lives.
    1 Corinthians 6:18-20 (NKJV)
Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits
sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is the temple
of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you
were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.
    James 4:13-16 (NKJV)
Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year
there, buy and sell, and make a profit”; whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow.
For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.
Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.” But now you
boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.
TRUTH #2: We are totally incapable of running our own lives. It is why we turn to Christ in the
    first place.
    John 10:7-11 (NKJV)
Then Jesus said to them again, “Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All
who ever came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. I am the
door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. The
thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may
have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. “I am the good shepherd. The good
shepherd gives His life for the sheep.”
    Psalm 23:1-6 (NKJV)
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He
leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of
righteousness For His name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of
death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me. Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You
prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My
cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will
dwell in the house of the Lord Forever.
    • The first step toward maturity and our destiny is embracing our weakness and
    dependence upon God!
TRUTH #3: God created us with a detailed plan and purpose for our lives and only He can
    guide us there.
TRUTH #4: God is the perfect Father and He loves us more than we love ourselves and He
will bless us more than we will bless ourselves if we will trust Him.
