It's a lot of fun to play massive wide chords with the 7th string. Which guitar did you get? I started with a 200 dollar Jackson 7 string and it still is excellent for the price.

@SanguineThor that's the one I just bought recently. The js22-7. I love it.

Can you go over more fun chord shapes and tricks you can do with this tuning?

I don’t know where you live, but I bought myself a pretty good 7 string for 140 euros. It’s my first guitar though, so maybe I’m ignorant on what makes a good guitar.

Lol you're never gonna find a PRS that cheap...unless it's a crackhead that really needs the cash.

Thank you for this! I had played guitar since the late 80's (metal/rock/progressive/djent/whatever), but had been playing bass for the last few years as it just scratched an itch I have. Our band, however, needed a fifth member (second guitarist) to round out the sound, so I switched back to guitar since we found another bassist. I had a couple of multiscale basses, so I went with my first new guitar in a while as a multiscale 7 string guitar. I had never played a 7 string guitar, let alone multiscale guitar, but it has been a HELL of a lot of fun playing again!!! This tuning might become a favorite of mine now!!!

The Great Bucky Pizzarelli used that tuning when he played Jazz on a 7 String Guitar, and may be RIP.

I have a question, i’m not aware, if you have a 7th string in standard tuning, does it sound like the low e in drop d? Or close? Cand you tune it that way? So you could use the 7th string instead of tuning the low e to drop d?

    So Drop A on a 7 string is basically like a 6 string guitar E standard tuning but with an extra 7th string tuned in A. (A E A D G B E)
    But why is it so much different from the Drop A tuning on a 6 string? (A E A D F♯ B)
I’m really confused, I don’t understand how the Drop A on a 7 string can sound so heavy if it’s 90% identical as the standard E tuning of a 6 string guitar..

Drop A on a 7 is essentially the equivalent of drop D on a 6. Drop A on 6 probably predates Drop A on 7 as well, but I'm not sure

Drop A on a 7 string allows you to keep standard chord shapes with an additional power chord on the bottom.

I've always been interested in +1 string guitars but idk if I would enjoy a 7 string guitar or a 5 string bass more
