  • Today I'm using a simple spreadsheet to inventory all of the food in my pantry, fridge, and freezers! Taking an inventory helps me to meal plan easily and to waste less food. We also save tons of money by using what we have FIRST. Enjoy!

In my opinion, if I am going through the trouble to inventory all of my food then I am definitely going to inventory the spices as well strictly for if I am at the store and I can't remember if I have a particular spice. I recently started my first ever food inventory mainly to track expiration dates so that I stop wasting food. Also, awesome video.

I think it looks like a lot of food because you have everything in one space. Plus you want a little extra of some stapels, you never know what could happen, i think that's a lesson learned this year. I do not think it looks like too much food. 👍

Too true! Yes we definitely want to keep some extra just in case!

You mentioned making your own pot pies. Here's a recipe I tried this week. It's easy and delicious. Hope you can use it and enjoy it.
    Easy Chicken Pot Pie
    Preheat oven to 425.
Thaw or bring pie crust to room temperature. I just used a top crust.
    1/3 cup butter or margarine
    1/3 cup chopped onion
    1/3 cup flour
    1/2 teas salt
    1/4 teas pepper
    1 3/4 cups chicken broth
    1/2 cup milk
2 1/2 cups cooked chicken chunks
2 cups frozen mixed veggies, thawed
In saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Add onion & cook 2 minutes. Stir frequently. Stir in flour,
salt and pepper until well blended. Gradually stir in broth and milk, cook stirring until bubbly and thickened.
Stir in chicken and veggies. Put in pan, top with crust and make slits in top.
Bake 30 -40 minutes until bubbly and crust is browned.

FYI: NO MILK products in the fridge door! The door is warmer and the foods spoil faster there! Drinks.. OK... vinegar based products... Keisho.. mustard ... pickles.. BBQ sauce. All ok! Every time you open the door it lowers the temp.. spoils faster! Per Home Ec Prof!
Your pantry is super organized.... I always put things in reverse order.. the soonest to expire in the front & the rest behind it!! I like the spread sheet! I keep things frozen to minimize the funky smell. On the nite before trash out it goes! Ie meat drippings ( fats) that J don’t use.. I use paper towels to absorb fats removed from my grd beef... in a coffe can lined in a plastic bag. I just seal it & toss it!
    Good job!!

Oh yes I've heard that before about milk in the door! Ooh you have some great tips! Putting stuff in the freezer until trash day is super smart!

Well I definitely need some of the containers you have for cans and things... My pantry is tiny, and I'm constantly trying to keep it organized and tidy so any new food fits in it! I need to start meal planning for what's in the pantry. Thanks for the ideas!

It's hard with a small space to store food! Those random things definitely eat up space though! So glad you enjoyed it!

from our food shop via qr code or something (and that items also have qr code to scan!)!
anyway kudos! dedication and a pretty pantry!

I just found this video and its a game changer! One thing I want to add. Sometimes I need to remember why I even have this item in my pantry. I try to only stock items that I use regularly, so if I'm trying to remember what I use an item for, like Coconut flakes, you can add a comment to the cell and I put the things I make with that item. Then if the item has been in my pantry awhile I just look at the comment and then make the things that I usually have the item there for. You can just add these things little by little, which is what I love about this, I can access it on my phone so I can adjust my inventory at the store!

I have 2 rack with 9 shelves each that hangs on the inside of the kitchen pantry and the door of my linen closet. They provide amazing extra space.
It is the vinyl covered wire type of unit and they cost about $35.- 40.

If you cook any thick rice noodles with no sauce (just plain boil it and remove the liquid or steam it), mix that peanut sauce, hoisin sauce, and siracha (portion does not matter). And YUM!

I loved your video, such great info. I inventory my spices because I cook different types of cuisine and I buy extras and need to keep track of them. The only thing I wasn’t that into is the sad music. LOL (sigh)

everything we have should be in an inventory 🤷🏽‍♀️
btw lazy susans are not the best for condiments and spices. racks and drawers where you can see them all at once seem to be the best. less shuffling and knocking them over to reach one in the middle.

Hi Natalie, I love this new video. I need to do this. Tired of buying things and then finding I already have it. Would spread you be open to sharing the spread)sheet as you did for your Budget tracker. I love using the budget tracker. I can use spreadsheets but do not know how to set up the formulas for totals etc.
