The thing that I’m most curious is, I’m guessing you never did the stories. Those take much longer to understand if you aren’t used to hearing real people speak. I’m guessing it would take a lot longer if you did so.
@@Flipoutpk2015 So the stories didn't exist when I was studying. If you're looking at the CLEP exam just take the practice test and see where you fall.
If you have no one to speak to in a foreign language, write in it. If you can write it, you can say it. And when you read, read it out loud & tell yourself the summary of what you read or write it down. It's active output vs passive input (reading & listening).

Daniel Dias I don’t really feel like there is a correct way to finish the tree, however the best strategy in my opinion is to finish them all one by one.
I always pick three oder four circles and make them gold then i go further. I finished 3 of the 8 topics now. Im sure this is the right way because the gramma is getting more complicated with every level. I understand now the structure.
You definitely better off completing each circle to level 5! 1) the more you practice the same thing all over again, the more you remember it and can advance using it, 2) you can also notice, that the higher the level of the circle, the harder it gets, on circle five you do a lot of translation from your main language to the language you learn, which is the hardest thing to do, and if you ace that, you are ready to move on! 4) when you advance, it prompts you to go back and review what you have already “aced”, so you can refresh it in your memory, if some words haven’t been used often.
how many castles were there at this point? i feel like i’m doing so many hours a day and i can not imagine finishing all 10 castles, even just on gold, in four months.

You gave an average estimate on the time it took to finish a Duolingo tree, but how long did you spend on the Tree per day/week
10-15 minutes a day (the 50xp point level)… pretty consistently maybe only taking a day off every few weeks

@@Flipoutpk2015 ah Duolingo stories is a new feature for this year.
@BatJoker I think the podcasts are more challenging and enjoyable.

The correct way to finish the tree is getting all of them in level 1, then level 2, so on, or one by on to level 5?

This is nonsense. I've got a 500 day streak. I'm on level 5. However, I have no problem with French pronunciation and I have a +2000 word vocabulary.
Out of all the Duolingo french reviews I've seen on RUclips this one was the most useful so thank you :)
