    David, I've been there. During my career as a marine biologist with a state dept of natural resources, we sent many proposals to the National Science Foundation (NSF). The odds of getting a grant averaged around 25%. So, I can share your joy of getting JWST time. As you say, perseverance is the key - well done!!! Your students must be ecstatic!!!

    You brought a tear to my eye today with this amazing news. I’m so happy for you and your team!! Go find not one but four big moons since it’s a Jupiter analogue. Cool worlds to the moon(s)! 🌘

    • @CoolWorldsLab
      @CoolWorldsLab  3 месяца назад +4

      It’s unlikely we’d get all four unless they’re bigger, Io and Europa in particular are just a bit too close to Jupiter, and too small in physical size, to easily resolve. But Ganymede and Callisto look game on, so that would be my best bet.

    Chalk one up for the good guys; and a shirt purchased to help fund the champagne for when you find your your first exomoon; because if you don't find it this time then you will, or the one after, of or after that, until you find your Grail.
    Keep at it, those moons won't find themselves.

    This is EXACTLY the news I was hoping to hear clicking on this video, with the last, _less than happy_ news update from you (on exomoons) being front and center in my mind while I did.
    You and Ben deserved it, David, and I hope this acts just as much as a teachable moment for people out there as the last one did, where you went into what dealing with the news of a big rejection looks like for you. This shows how reality can come full circle, and how it isn't just head-in-the-clouds, overly optimistic wishful thinking that can come out of failure when you experience it. Even if you're on a streak of difficult results, like a string of rejections you put a lot of energy into working and hoping for the opposite result of, and succeeding feels functionally off-limits to you, persisting, and continuing to carry yourself with purpose and an aim is exactly how you'll succeed in the future.
    If we believe in something enough, if we want to achieve an outcome enough, giving up is the only sure way to never see it happen. Congratulations again, thank you for sharing, and GO GET 'EM, you MOON-HUNTING TIGERS!!!!!!! 🔥🥳🔥
