  • A day at Barnetby in North Lincolnshire in 1987. Class 20's 31's 37's and 47's on passenger and freight, recorded on early video 8 so the quality is not like todays digital camera's, but it has survived well after almost 30 years, the sound is good so turn up the volume and enjoy.

    Ah good memories indeed - great sounds. Probably still one of the best places for seeing loco hauled action today.
    I still have my ticket from my first train journey as young spotter - Grimsby to Barnetby for 17 pence return in June 1975.
    I csn remember the excitement of seeing my first class 25 there (024) that day.
    Interesting to see the large crew getting dropped off by the class 37. Not sure health and safety would allow that today!

    I used to love bashing Deltics here. The trains were virtually empty and I had the buffet car to myself.

      Thank you for watching my video Roy. That deer was a total surprise although we do have an abundance of them. I made my first trip to Barnetby in the early 2000's and I've been back 3 or 4 times. I have not seen it since the semaphores were removed and of course it's all 66's in there now, not the variety there used to be. Good luck with your deer. Kind regards, David.

      I also have not been to Barnetby since the semaphores went David, I don't drive too far these days. I have got footage there in the early 2000's when I used to drive up to the North Yorkshire moors and would always take a break at Barnetby. I will try and put some of it on sometime over the winter so keep watching. Cheers Roy.

    That was a slog for those 37s pulling away with the iron ore train at 9:00. That was the High Speed Track Recording Coach DB999550 in the consist of that train headed by the 47 at 2:00 wasn't it. And coming back at 12:45.

    • @neildahlgaard-sigsworth3819
      @neildahlgaard-sigsworth3819 5 лет назад

      No that was a class 114 in the SYPTE brown and cream livery. The easiest way to tell the difference is by the windows 4 full size windows for the class 114 against 3 for the class 108. Also the half window is at the driver's end in the class 114 and at the ither end for the class 108.
      Roy filmed this unit in many locations in Lincolnshire including Spalding.

    This was definitively a different Barnetby compared to the last years of semaphore signaling, the traction was different and better, the ugly ramps to the footbridge weren't there and I also noticed an absence of housing near east box, and a large building behind that box that is gone (what was the purpose of that building, looks like a malting to me).
    Also very noticable is the absence of coal trains, Britain didn't need to import coal back then!, most of the trains then seemed to carry iron ore to Scunthorpe.

    • @royharrison4122
      @royharrison4122  7 лет назад

      Yes it is a different place now, I have not visited since the semaphores went. The large building you mentioned was I believe like you said a Malting.
