I think it depends on the person learning the castaway, but I think you did a good job covering what isn't in other tutorials. I've learned a lot of new ways to teach it since I made my tutorial, and this explains a lot of it so I don't have to make an updated version. :) I'm going to make a kong gainer tutorial soon though that explains it like no other tutorial ever has, because I've never seen anybody teach it effectively.

in my tutorial i talk about what you call the snap down as well. i didn't know the term snap down so i just emphasized how to go into the tuck by straightening your legs and then pretending your kicking/ kneeing something in front of you instead of just bringing your knees immediately to your chest. glad we're on the same track!

hey Bob I teach trampoline and freerunning classes and a drill I have for the cody is to try do it with no bounce. basically just lying on the trampoline and try get round to your back without the feet touching. this drill kind of forces the students to use a technique more similar to a cast away than a cody so this could help aswell. nice tutorial though! I already have a pretty low castaway but this should help tidy it up even more

I call the "snap down" a "tap" but freaking YES! I WISH someone had told me this, I tried to learn cast away for two years not knowing and NATURALLLY I never could. I'd always throw them into the pit at Lowe's, the gym Calen goes to, or at least used to go to all the time. Finally I figured out tap though and it changed the trick completely for me. I wish someone had taught me sooner, and I wish I saw this vid. I appreciate your prowess Bob, literally so good, thank you.

  • @phantomfreerun8812

this tutorial, combined with alfred scotts, and calen chans really helped me get the castaway! all three of the tutorials had there own super helpful tips, like in alfreds he said how you body should make a U, straighten out, then follow throught and that really helped me with the technique of the trick, i actually skipped learning the cody, but i did the other drills you said to do, and those really helped! also what really helped me was looking over my shoulder at first rather than just right away tring to go straight over my head, i started getting more and more aggressive with it and more and more comfortable with falling, soon i accadently threw it over my head and landed it! now i can do them fairly easily!

Yeah I agree man I could cast away and I was doing that snap in my legs just cause I saw people doing it, but in every single cody tutorial video I watched noone talked about kicking or snapping your legs. It took me all day to learn that, then when I kicked my legs I did it. And I taught other people the cody too because I saw all they were missing was the leg snap, they did that and landed it easily. lol Nice tutorial!

  • @steiktur2000

Cool, snapdown with a pelvic tilt is very important. I don't agree with the timing, if you were to push away with your hands while your still traveling up (from the cast) you would get a much higher castback. So in my opinion the timing would be cast, then when you're near the highest point of the cast then push away and start the snapdown.
If you pushaway when you finish the cast you will not get the hangtime, as in other flips you tuck into the high point of the jump not after (for most efficiency)

I think its not good idea to learn cody backflip before starting learning cast backs. For me personally is cody harder than single cast back. Sure It helps a lot if you can do it but I think you should learn cast back before you start cody backflip. But anyway good explaining How it works and should looks like 🙂👍
