I got the Starlight (because they didn’t have purple available), 64GB and Celluar + WiFi. I originally got WiFi only, but realized that this thing was going to go with me most of the time, so having mobile data was a must. This compliments my M1 12.0” Pro, which I don’t like to carry out of the house with me. I find myself going into the office later in the morning, so sometimes I have to do Teams meetings while on the road and this works great for that. I have my work email, personal email, a few games and banking/financial apps. I already had the Apple Pencil for the Pro, so I can use it between them, even though I really don’t use it that much on either iPad. If I’m sitting at my desk and want to watch TV, I can connect the mini to my 32” monitor and watch on the bigger screen and desk speakers. This little thing is so versatile.
The large variety of productivity uses for the Mini demonstrates how versatile it can be. A Master of Non - But Good at a lot of stuff - Fine by me!!! I bought an iPad Mini Cellular 9 years ago. I do not browse with it - I'm an adult - so I use my 14" laptop to browse and an Apple TV for viewing. After 9 years of ownership - I use my Mini almost exclusively when I "TRAVEL" - to do the following (otherwise it sits in a drawer) #1- as a GPS unit in my vehicles - the best GPS ever (70%) That's after over 150K miles of road trips - when I need a GPS around town - my iPhone works fine. #2 - as a Sidecar or mirror screen to view video paired with a M2 MBA (25%) #3 - as an eReader (4%) #4 - the odd miscellaneous task (1%) This might change with the pencil. I will likely buy the new Mini 7 when it comes out @ year end. The Mini is simply a great portable high performance device that sits between an iPhone & Laptop as a complimentary device.
The 6 is my second mini. It’s my favorite at home device and it’s mostly for RUclips and browsing in bed.. it’s just so easy to toss around and a great size. It’s purely a recreational device.. no email, iMessage, ect.
This was probably the best review of the mini I’ve seen. You offer credibility mentioning your past history with several iPads. I am the only one who can decide what’s best for me. I’ve never had a tablet but I do have a 14” MacBook Pro. I am trying to decide between the mini and the Air!

I chose the 256GB cellular variant in Space Gray. I'm using it as a screen to fly my drone, editing videos in LumaFusion and some photo editing in lightroom. It was a no brainer to get the mini 6 over buying two separate devices at double the cost.
Fantastic video! I got a purple 256gb cell iPad mini. I love love love this thing. Btw I have a work issued 2018 12.9 iPad Pro that I rarely use. The mini is almost an extension of my iPhone. I use my iPhone far less. Reading, larger display , form factor make it so much easier to hand hold over iPad Pro. Love photo editing and video editing. LumaFusion is ridiculous. Reading apple news is so enjoyable. The mini is great to play video podcast in the office while I work. I only wish the colors were more vibrant the battery lasted longer, and I wish there was more internal space. Great video again and glad i found your channel.
I would’ve loved a midnight black or midnight blue. Ive bought 2 and returned ipad minis. I love the size but the iPadOS sizing on it, is not good. The bezels i wish it was a tad bit smaller bezels. The perfect iPad mini would be an oled screen or mini led, Face ID and a midnight blue or black
I have the purple 256GB Ipad Mini Wifi. Its an awesome media consumption device. I can take it everywhere with me and it gets the job done. I even gave away my Ipad Pro to my dad since I wasn't using it anymore.
Interesting! The Apple Pencil was a big draw (pun intended 😊) for me to consider the iPad mini. I already have an iPad and iPad Pro 12.9 and was thinking about it as a more portable option for my pro.
Hey J, That's exactly what I did. I bought my iPad Pro M1 12.9" last year but I found it too big and heavy for portability so I just bought this iPad mini 6. I'll use it for a couple of days and see how good of a choice it was.
I like how the mini for how it’s bigger than your iPhone but not too big and does everything an iPad bigger than it is can do. Always max out a device and add cellular.
I am thinking about buying an ipad mini due to the portable form factor. Primarily I would use it for reading, kindle & readly (and hopefully less for watching youtube). Nice review, thanks.
Mini 6 Starlight 256 like you. I Watch RUclips videos & Social Media. Got a usbc to headphone adapter to not use the Airbuds that much (limited battery lifetime). It seems like this iPad goes through the battery a lot faster than my Mini 5 did doing the same things.
My choice is the 256 GB iPad mini cellular variant in Space Gray. I considered Starlight but it looked like a mix of gold and silver and I don't like either of those colors.
Great review Steven! I would love to see another video about your photo editing workflow on the iPad. I typically edit all my photos on my desktop at home, but am very interested in getting an iPad specifically for photo editing as I think I would be more motivated/efficient while editing on the iPad. I would love to know your thoughts!
Thanks for a great review Steven. This is my first time on your channel. though I wanted to get this mini 6 iPad from the get-go, I actually am a brand new owner and I am thrilled with it! I got a pencil for it too and I am looking for ways to use it still and I would be interested in advice in that department. My primary use so far is to watch RUclips videos and read. I bought the original mini a decade ago exactly because it was light enough to read in bed on my back which the larger iPads I found it to be too heavy for comfort. As for the color of the aluminum I really couldn’t care less. As long as there is some neutral gray or black I’m OK with it. For me this is a tool that makes my life easier and if I needed a color I could always get the case with polkadots on it if I want it! :-) No not really, but I do like to have a case on it! Looking forward to catch whatever else you offer on RUclips! Thanks!
I'm just about to buy myself an ipad mini. But still torn between the 64 and the 256gb versions. I feel like I would likely use it just for media consumption (Netflix, RUclips, etc) and could see the argument to go higher on the memory for plane rides. I would love your input though!
If you’re only about streaming and maybe shorter flights/travel then go with the 64GB but for me I find myself loading up well into the 100GB range of media when traveling between the United States and Mexico. Usually over a dozen hours of travel time and away for weeks. Hope that helps and my best to you in your travels. ¡Buen Viaje!
@@_stevenfoster This is a late answer, but pretty much every game. Compared to an iPhone it’s a huge screen and compared to larger iPads it’s a perfect size/weight to hold in landscape. I’ve played quite a bit of COD Mobile on my mini. The Oregon Trial is also fun. Then there are the more impressive games like Divinity Original Sins 2 and Genshin Impact. Whatever you’re into it’ll play well on the mini compared to a phone.
I hvnt got one … yet, but think it could be very useful. During Corvid - the pre-story (?!) - I got into net chess, n my phone is Ok, but bit too small. My iPad is too big (!) n heavy, and too business/ work orientated. If I get one, (they r still £475 !! ), I’d use it for Chess, for my own Photos, (for showing other peeps), plus for browsing web, social stuff & watching Tv/films.. // Very good chatty And informative Vid; yes, pleasure to Sub !
After nearly a year of this iPad mini coming out, i find myself wanting it. I have my iPad Pro from 2018 and love it, but honestly with the apple keyboard is not so portable anymore. 🤷🏻♀️ I just don’t know if i should wait for September and see if they bring the next gen. I would buy it in starlight and with cellular data and 256gb.🤍

Procreate. Garageband, Lumafusion, these are apps that you can only find on ios. So great.better than anything android offers
