Command and Colours has been around a long time, ranking reasonably high on BGG, and plenty of non war gamers are at least aware of it; so it's not that surprising.
Been wanting a C&C game for a while. This might be the one. I also kind of dig the blocks. I have too many miniature based games as it is, so it would be cool to have something different on the table.
The biggest complaint on this iteration I have been seeing from wargamers is the mix of "fantasy" in the Dragon cards with historical flavor. I think you just need to know going in it is a quasi-mythological take on the past.
Always wanted to try out the C&C system, but my play group has 3 of us, so wargames are trickier to find. Did the P500 for Churchill and Triumph & Tragedy so looking forward to those. Also want to check out All Bridges Burning, sounds really interesting and I've been wanting to dive into the COIN system also.
Look up a game “brotherhood and unity” from compass games. Wargame on war in Bosnia and Herezegovina in the 90’s for 3 factions: serbs, croats, and bosniaks). If you want a 3 player war game I’ve heard lots of good things.
After 3 years of playing war games and GMT games, I really wish they would start to update the way they write the rule books. It's no longer 1990, and even though a wargame is rules comprehensive, when you actually play them they're not that hard. I think the rules need to start reflecting that. Emphasize what needs to be done to play the game rather than drowning a player in a sea of text covering every single possible eventuality.
Love the concept of using blocks with coloured pictures instead of minis (stickers are much easier than painting for me). But Battlelore 2nd Ed. spoiled me with art and a great rule book. I guess they're going for an old wargame style with regards to the art, which is fine, but walls-of-text rulebooks should be left in the past.
@@jokerES2 There were actually two game systems in one box . I only played the Borge design (C&C). Not the Art of Tatics system designed by Konstantin Krivenko.rt
@@jokerES2 C&C was definitely in that box. I've been playing this game as my go to C&C for almost 10 years. That version also has an expansion called Ninja Attack.
@@christophercorrigan5523 Both comments are correct. I'm saying that the previous box included a variation on C&C Samurai, but this is a new product, not a reprinting. There were 8 C&C scenarios in that box, with 4 available for download for a total of 12. This has 40, doesn't include the alternative system, and has some minor tweaks. (As well as blue vs. red instead of yellow vs. red). It's a reimplement, which is worth looking at, and at more than triple the content.
Tom netflixs has a great 6 part series called the age of Samurai !! Give it a watch .. Man , this game is ugly ! Would love to uave a game based on the theme but something that looks made in the current time ! Also tom Netflix
I would be interested in this if the components were more like Battlelore 2nd edition. Give me minis, I don't want blocks, some good art on the cards to bring me into the theme etc etc. As it is.... Pass
Woah! Tom is reviewing a GMT wargame, things are getting interesting here!
I wonder if “Dominant Species: Marine” will be next...
While wearing a footy tie. Very interesting indeed.
Gonna pull out my hipster card but hasn't tom reviewed command and colors ancients a while ago? He in it for a while now.
@@OgamiTringle didn't look that up but he did mention that during this game

This game is great, and the player aids are a massive improvement as it makes it clear as to what each unit can roll for combat.
Excellent! C&C Ancients and Napoleonics have many expansions, but if you’re going for just a base game, this seems like a great choice.

There is something I love about the nicks in C&C games. Like I’m a general overseeing a battle.
I’m excited they upgraded the dice.
My favourite C&C since I'm a huge fan of the history of feudal Japan.

Exactly my thoughts while seeing the cards on this video.
“Ninja thief” cmon....”practice of aikido”???? Aikido was invented in the XXth century xP
Looks interesting. Bummer that one of the cards used as an example has a typo on it ("ordeing" instead of "ordering").
Finally, thick cardboard tiles and dice with no stickers on it.
Is this the same game he did with the zvesda box set with all the miniatures?
Empire of the Sun next?
My wife and I really love the game, especially the risk of retreating will force you to move damaged units away from overwhelming forces.
This is a really great game, not all the scenarios are balanced, but that's ok in a historical wargame.

Nice review. Best regards from Portugal
don't worry about the rulebook guys. gmt rulebooks are normally that way. it is meant to be comprehensive.

You forgot to add the 30 minutes applying all the stickers.
Wao surprisingly it's a great game, i've seen this game in my local marketplace and see the cover i tought it's gona be meh game. Gona try to cop one.
'There is no magic in ancient Japan'. You sure about that?
This is not a new game. The first edition was published by Zvezda a few years ago (2012).
Samurai Battles is not the same as this, but did include a way to play the C&C with the pieces. This is not a reprint, it's a reimplement.

This feels like Age of Empires the board game edition :3

Much less interesting & exciting without miniatures, than BattleLore
Look for the original 2012 version. It is all miniatures.
