I think the majority of the comments here seem confused. I would like to clarify.. don't focus on the brand, but rather the type of sound and wood you want! - *KOA wood* (Muspor) gives you a longer vibration with a more mellow sound so it has a more dreamy amplified effect. - *Camphor wood* (Gecko) gives u a shorter vibration sound compared to box kalimbas as there is no hole, but the notes sustain longer than the mahogany's. It's a flatboard so the sound is generally more muted with lesser sound amplication. The high notes are not as harsh and it gives a warm melodic tone. I personally find this suitable for relaxing music meant to play slow. - *Mahogany wood* (No brand) is the most common out there in the market. It has a slightly shorter resonate (vibration) than the KOA but gives a richer warm tone sound. Higher notes sound harsher and suit upbeat songs better. I personally feel that this is an all rounder for melodic or upbeat songs. - *Acrylic glass* (Kimi) doesn't have the hole in the center and is a flatboard, so it's quieter as compared to those wood ones with holes. It gives a more 'fairytale' effect. Reviews are that it might be heavy so it can get tiring after holding this for too long. However its tone is softer so people like this too. Say for example, you may assume that Gecko isn't good because it doesn't sound nice here but Gecko is one of the famous kalimba brands out there in the market. Apart from the Camphor wood, they also sell kalimbas in KOA wood and Mahogany wood too! So it's not really much of brand issue here, but rather which wood you would prefer to give you the sound you desire! Another factor is to consider the space in between the tines for each type. If you have thicker fingers, you might want to go for kalimbas with tines more spaced apart because you might hit 2 notes if the tines are close to one another. E.g. the flatboard camphor wood tines have wider spacing as compared to the box types KOA or Mahogany wood kalimbas. The striking of tines on the box type kalimba tines also tend to be more obvious as compared to flatboard kinds due to the tines being tighter. For recording, the flatboard tines are less obvious. Different brands' tines have different spacing too (as far as I know) so its always good to do your research on the different brands and type of kalimba out there in the market. You should consider the weight, dents at the side of the kalimba which some brands have (for comfortable grip), size of the tines, spacing in between the tines and the sound you desire. Some also offer audio holes where you can connect them to a speaker.
@@yenglor64 Sorry for the late reply, I wasn't getting replies on this comment for some reason. My favourite is the mahogany as I feel that it's in the middle of everything. However different songs may suit different kalimbas, so it really boils down to your song preferences. Edit: I actually now prefer the Camphor flatboard over the mahogany one over time since it is easier to grip and make me less tired (K17CAP - self-tuned to C major). I really like the sound now because it's more of my preference since I like relaxing songs :)
honestly, i just found out about the existence of this amazing instrument :') and it surprisingly sounds pretty close to a music box, isn't it? or is it just me? but it sounds the same to me and i love it sm :3
Music boxes actually kinda work the same! They have these metal pegs that make different notes, and then there’s a barrel with little knobs that turns and hits the metal pegs. You should really look at a music box and you’ll see it.
I heard about it a month ago, and needless to say, im ready to beg my parents for one! (My birthday is soon, feel free to send me birthday wishes, but it doesn't really matter, but thank you!) Edit: thank you all 💖

The wood with the hole in the middle are louder and thicker sounds while the glass and the other wood without the hole are not that loud at all, and kinda soft to hear, also you will not really able to hear it if you play it outside i guess its only for the indoor.. i rather choose the wood with the hole on it so you can play it outside. thanks for the video..
I own the gecko. The mahogany one is so rich in tone and kimi so light and airy. I'll probably get those after I master playing the instrument. Thank you for this.
I think the Kimi Glass one fits me since I’m more of a quiet person. For those people who like more of a richer sound, you should go with gecko or the no brand Kalimba. The Kimi Glass Kalimba is more quiet and the sound is so adorable!
I think the 4th one is my favourite because it’s got a really soft sound, the one I have (which sounds like the 1st kalimba) sounds a bit harsh to me sometimes
Same thoughts 😅 I also have the 1st one and I also think my kalimba's sound is a bit harsh or I think the sound is too strong 😅 but I really love my kalimba hahaha
I like no brand for its dark sound so it makes falling in love hit more, but the last one does make sunshine more happier, the first one is pretty bright.. The gecko is nice it just doesn't bring the sound out much more since it doesn't have the hole so it's like the no brand but softer and the notes don't carry out as much
I noticed that the men tend to enjoy the hollow box Kalimbas more. My husband prefers his hollow box sound where I think it sounds bland. I prefer the sweeter sound of the flat boards.
I just ordered a Gecko Mahogany one yesterday. I think I'll be getting a few others down the road after hearing how they can sound different from each other. Nice video. Thanks.

I bought the clear one cuz i thought it was pretty lmao but it was surprisingly easy and soothing to the ears that whenever i finish practicing some songs i always fall asleep after🥰
I have three Kalimba which are with hole, flat and Kimi. I love all of it. Hole and flat produce more volume. Therefore,Kimi produce lesser sound but it sound really beautiful and relaxing. If you want to buy Kalimba just find the one that you really like and there a lot of kalimba out there. Just choose

*An important side note for those who want to buy Kimi* The sound and the look is good, however you may not be able to hold it for long since it is *heavy*

Anyways, i love the way how u played it ate!!!
I wonder how would muspor mahogany and maspor koa be different tone-wise? I have had muspor mahogany already, but the B tine buzzes and I can’t get rid of it no matter what I do. So, I think I want to get myself another muspor kalimba but I’ve been wondering if the koa one is better than the mahogany one. Would you give me any insights to consider? ☺️🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Hi ate where did you buy your kalimba collection and meron ka po bang marerecomend na online ahop or website na pwede pagbilhan ng kalimba? Btw i love your channel ✨💖
I think the Gecko. The quality of the resonance shows better with this one I think. I have also seen good reviews. #3...the C ( lowest tine..sounded Dead ) some sounded out of tune. I have an 8 time key of C.. BRAND: CATANIA. I put one of those cell phone finger ring on the back to keep the same placement of my hand. I am Right handed, but used my Left Midfle finger...keeps it Balanced in my hands. I just bought a Gecko ...should be here on Tues. I will let you know if I got anice one. Do they make them with silver plated keys? Or what metal has the best resonance? Does the type of Bridge metal make a difference?
Without looking at the brand I'm surprised to say I don't really prefer the sound of the Gecko one. I like the sound of the Muspor and Kimi Crystal! The limo Crystal has more of a music box sound! I like them both equally though.
I’m trying to find some sounds I could sample and try to actually make some music but I might have to make them myself because there’s no single notes it’s all chords.
Aku baru beli kalimba dan baru sampai hari ni langsung aq praktekin sambil nonton video disini.. Aq pikir bakal mudah main nya ternyata sangat sulit dan yg paling menderita ujung jempol ku sakit sampe merah.. Aq bakalan praktekin sampe bisa mainkan satu lagu.. Semangat jempol ku kamu pasti bisa.. 😂
I want to make kpop covers and stuff, so I saw her cover videos and saw the kimi kalimba and was just wondering if I can make do with a wooden one like the gecko, or should I just buy an acrylic one??
You can make covers with whatever, really. It will sound deeper if you choose a Gecko in B tone ofc but you can use the same tabs. The Kimi it's used a lot in cover videos because of the aesthetic, and also a lot of people (including me) like it bc of its fairytale-like, dreamy sound, it does sound pretty quiet so you'll prolly need a good mic tho. The April Yang kalimba sounds lovely as well. Though if you want a 'complete' package the LingTing is a great option, although it _is_ more expensive (around $55)
@@alisonmolina6670 I think I will be going with an acrylic one cause it has a very fairytale sound and vibe, plus I want to make covers of kpop songs, so yeahhh

(/ω\). Anyways, i love the way how u played it ate!!!
Ohmygod the kalimba is very cute and the sound is amazing ( same person )
I like the no name one
Sounds the best!
The clear one is cute :0
I like that lullaby-sound from the acrilic and the wood cluck sound from gecko
I wonder how would muspor mahogany and maspor koa be different tone-wise? I have had muspor mahogany already, but the B tine buzzes and I can’t get rid of it no matter what I do. So, I think I want to get myself another muspor kalimba but I’ve been wondering if the koa one is better than the mahogany one. Would you give me any insights to consider? ☺️🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Hi ate where did you buy your kalimba collection and meron ka po bang marerecomend na online ahop or website na pwede pagbilhan ng kalimba? Btw i love your channel
✨💖
I think the Gecko. The quality of the resonance shows better with this one I think. I have also seen good reviews.
#3...the C ( lowest tine..sounded Dead ) some sounded out of tune.
I have an 8 time key of C..
BRAND:
CATANIA.
I just love the Kimi!
Sarap pakinggan Yung gecko. Buong buo talaga Yung sound Yung Kimi Naman Ang lambing talaga😍
Kimi sounds so much more crisp, but I do like the KOA Wood one too!
I have the muspor kalimba ❤️ but I even want the Kimi crystal kalimba 😭❤️❤️❤️💕
OMG UR FILIPINO
btw filipino squad where u at????
Hello
no
I will go for GECKO :')
thank you so much for posting this! I'm shopping for one rn and wanted to know the differences ;)
the no brand one sounds so nice
I like the no brand the most it seemed so.... wholesome? I cant describe
Aku baru beli kalimba dan baru sampai hari ni langsung aq praktekin sambil nonton video disini.. Aq pikir bakal mudah main nya ternyata sangat sulit dan yg paling menderita ujung jempol ku sakit sampe merah.. Aq bakalan praktekin sampe bisa mainkan satu lagu.. Semangat jempol ku kamu pasti bisa.. 😂
I thought they all had the same sound until i saw this video 😂❤️
Lahat maganda.
I have the Muspor and from the 4 in your video I still would go for the Muspor 😂
My 2nd one is the Gecko
