Love your videos! To get the garlic smell off your hands, rub all sides of your hands around on your stainless steel sink. Only works on stainless steel. I laugh when I do it because my husband gives me funny looks. Rolling my hands around in the empty sink probably does look funny, but it works! 🤣

The stainless steel trick actually works for removing the garlic smell from your hands. Rub your hands on your stainless steel faucet (anything else you have that’s stainless steel) and it takes most of the scent away. Hope you have a beautiful day!

You might want to check out Simple Living Alaska for tips on keeping bees alive in extreme cold. They have been (somewhat) successful prior to moving to an even colder climate. They have also put in an epic garden with a Jurassic Park fence to keep out moose, etc! They are well worth watching (and so goshdarn young and energetic!).

Last year my garlic did not do well, but I happened upon someone who had a whole plastic kids sled of free scapes! I took a bunch, and whizzed (or whazzed 😊) them in the food processor. Then I scooped into little balls and froze them. Whenever I wanted garlic for a recipe, I just used one of the scape balls . So much easier than chopping fresh garlic!

I love the canned peaches, but I can only have a certain variety of the peaches. Plus I can't have refined white sugar, so I was struggling a bit to find such a product until I found out that I can actually can them myself. But waterbathing was just taking so much time and water until you introduced steam canning and I just couldn't get my mind off of it and I finally gave in 😂 and bought a steam canner. I can't wait to try canning with it!! I haven't found the time to process and can them yet but I'm looking forward to it. Because it's going to cut down the time and water usage, I'm really really looking forward to it. Thank you so much!!

How To Caramelize Onion in the slow cooker
    You'll Need
6 pounds yellow onions, peeled, cut in half and sliced
    2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
    2 tablespoons olive oil
    2 ½ teaspoons kosher salt
½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, or more to taste
Put the sliced onions in a 5-quart (or larger) slow cooker, along with the butter, olive oil, salt, and black pepper. you can put as much onions as your crock pot/slow cooker will hold because they cook down and then divide for recipes! Cover the crockpot and cook on low overnight, or for 10-12 hours. The onions should be dark golden brown and soft.
I usually put 3 lbs. of onions for 1 recipe of French onion soup and another 3lbs of onions for sandwiches and Burgers and other things
If you have a large slow cooker you could do
9 pounds yellow onions, peeled, cut in half and sliced
    3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
    3 tablespoons olive oil
    3 1/4 teaspoons kosher salt
3/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, or more to taste
Put the sliced onions in a 5-quart (or larger) slow cooker, along with the butter, olive oil, salt, and black pepper. you can put as much onions as your crock pot/slow cooker will hold because they cook down and then divide for recipes! Cover the crockpot and cook on low overnight, or for 10-12 hours. The onions should be dark golden brown and soft.

Sitting here just a little defeated this year with how things are going in my garden. Or rather, NOT going...we had to make the decision that we simply have to get out of doing chickens so that we can devote more quality time to the garden. It suffers again because all my energy ends up taken by dealing with birds. I do have a question for you--do you roast your chicken before pressure canning it the same way you do your pork? If so, do you add broth or just water to fill the jars?

Hey there, I don’t think it tastes good and I just need to scrape of off the jelly anyway. I have lots of videos where I use the steam canner but I don’t think I have a straight up tutorial. It operates the same as a water bath canner as far as canning times so if you know how to do that you’re good to go!

    • @cynthiafisher9907
      @cynthiafisher9907 Месяц назад

A steam canner should come with instructions for use. You basically watch for a good stream of steam to come out the ho,es on the sides instead of watching for the water in a water bath canner to boil.

There are some very good resources we for safe canning and preserving. Rose Red Homestead, Suttons Daze and Seed and Sparrow Homestead come to mind.

Do you dehydrate the scapes first for garlic scape salt or just blend them with the salt and then dry as garlic salt? (I don't have a freeze dryer)
