4:10 only noticed this now. Zestial sipping so loud was him doing his best annoy Velvet by interrupting her the same way she did by talking over Camilla. He was so quiet until she walked in.
Not to mention sipping one’s tea that loudly and long is flagrantly intentional, and a breach of tea-drinking etiquette, and he waited untill she shut up to start talking himself! making his interruption a layered insult instead of merely cutting her off, and teaching her how rude she was (she didn’t learn, but that’s her problem)

Considering he is implied capable of folding her inside out and in half with the same effort it took to sip that drink, I veeeeeeeeeeeeery much want to see someone finally wake her up to just how weak and pathetic SHE is.
Zestial scares Alastor, and it's obvious. You don't survive as long as Zestial, especially with people like Alastor around, without being an absolute powerhouse. Zestial gives off chill calm vibes, but if you read the room, he is VERY much someone to be terrified of.
We have the Radio Demon, a being which invokes absolute terror into the average sinner in hell, visibly nervous around Zestial while he's a few episodes later cursing the king of hell to his face.
Zestial quite literally remarks how much he likes screams here. Zestial may be chill, but I have a feeling a lot of people have been enthralled by just that mystery, and failed to see the fact that a being who invokes that much terror is absolutely someone you'd best steer clear from.
Now he's clearly at least semi respectful towards Alastor. But he was trying to intimidate him too. Could be testing the waters after Al's seven year absence, but who knows what their actual friendly level is. I suspect it's respectful more Alastor towards Zestial, but just that.
I feel like how Velvet was trying to convince everyone to go to war is very telling that the Vees themselves probably don’t want to go and instead wishes for everyone to die so they can take over
Two things;
Firstly, I love that Alastor is visibly unnerved by Zestial's arrival. People like to say Alastor is somehow the most powerful person in Hell, but he for sure knows that is *not* the case, as much as he hates it.
Secondly, Alastor twitching when Carmilla dismisses his return is so good. He hates not being the most important person in the room.

Zestial is likely one of the very few demons Alastor wouldn't try to mess with.

Zestial seems like he has been an overlord since well before Alastor arrived and started removing overlords.
Maybe he is powerful enough to have survived it. Maybe he just knows how to avoid angering Alastor.
Well zestial has been in hell a lot longer than alastor and zestial is the oldest living overlord who is still ruling as top overlord so for alastor having a powerful ally overlord by your side like zestial is quite a ace in the hole if your in need of assistance to get out of a jam. There probably has been overlords through the years who were just as old or even older than zestial but alastor quickly took care of them and these weren’t small time overlords or pick pocketers or thieves, these were as Mimsy would say in alastors backstory “heavy hitters” kind of overlords

I love how even though alastor is considered one of the most fucked up overlords, zestial causes demons to commit literal suicide by his mere presence alone.
I hope we see more of Zestial in the second season. James Monroe Iglehart has a great voice.

It is likely the presence of both of them combined that causes folks to panic. Overlords are very territorial, with a strong undercurrent of mutual hostility (mostly). Seeing two or more together rarely bodes well for those at the bottom of the hierarchy.
Fun fact: Zestial is voiced by James Monroe Iglehart, the same guy who voices Ozzie in Helluva Boss.

@AmberTheBlueMonkey, she is just making a cynical power grab. The Vees gives me Petyr Baelish vibes. They need chaos and upheaval to climb the ladder and become even more powerful, so while here she (and all the Vees by representation) are pushing for war, when war and battle actually came, they all sitted it out and watched it from the tv. They are good characters for sure, but i wouldn't trust Velvette to water my cactus.

I also want to see all seven of the Sins in a similar meeting: Lucifer (voiced by Jeremy Jordan), Satan, Beelzebub (voiced by Kesha), Mammon (voiced by Michael Cusack), Asmodeus (voiced by James Monroe Iglehart), Leviathan, and Belphegor.
As wonderful as that would be, I don’t see it happening. There might be some copyright issues since Amazon owns Hazbin, not just Vivzie herself. Sure, I could see them make a couple references here and there, but let’s just say you won’t be seeing Blitzø and Charlie on the same screen.

To me that’s Alastor’s “On alert” face. When he perks up, eyes open, smile wide.
He’s paying close attention because Zestial is being ‘bad mannered’ not because he’s disapproving of it. It means what comes next could be dangerous or just specifically worth noting.

I only just watched Hazbin yesterday (I'd been listening to the songs, figured I might as well sit and watch the show, too), and Zestial honestly might be my favorite character. I know he's only been in one episode so far, but he fascinates me, and his introduction was so strong. Sinners running away and catching themselves on fire at the mere sight of him. Alastor's own wariness around him. Carmilla being so protective of him despite the fact that, given what we've just seen, he's probably not someone who *needs* protecting. (I'd LOVE to see her and Zestial's history and how they developed such a strong friendship.)
It's specifically his conversation with Alastor though that has me so curious. Al's initial surprise at seeing him, warning the Eggs to be quiet. Al turning away to fidget with his bowtie when Zestial mentions "holy arms", displaying a level of nervousness I don't think we ever see him have when talking to anyone else (and it's certainly not "a smile lets everyone know you're in control" behavior) and only relaxing when the topic shifts to the hotel. The fact that Al never gives a straight answer, or even a phony answer, to any of Zestial's questions, deflecting with a vague "I was on sabbatical" or "that's for me to know". Obviously with his absence there's not much he can say, but with the hotel? Why not say it's for the pure amusement of it all, like he has before? To me, it seems like Alastor knows he can't bullshit Zestial, that the older overlord will just see right through whatever he tries to say or do, so he plays it safe by giving non-answers and attempting to probe for theories (which Zestial doesn't offer up, so Al doesn't have a strong gauge on how much Zestial does/doesn't know. Just that he knows *something*, re: holy arms.)
On a smaller note I thought was interesting: anyone notice that Zestial is smiling the entire time he's talking to Alastor? I don't know if it means anything, but I like the detail a lot. "A smile is a valuable tool, my dear" and all that. I like watching the scene as Zestial using Al's favorite tool against him haha. Overall I think there's a lot of wariness and mutual respect between them, and I enjoy the dynamic a lot based on the little we've seen
Watching the other demons reaction to seeing Alastor and zestial meet up and casually stroll to their meeting really makes you wonder just how powerful these two actually are

Alastor and Zestial are both so terrifying and cool at the same time! Plus he does have a point that they shouldn't rush into things with the Extermination or else things would go bad, but Velvette just had to mess with him and insult him and Carmilla has the right to call Velvette out for speaking to Zestial like that. Ever since I saw Zestial in this episode, I really want to see more of him. He's so cool and scary at the same time!😁😈

Velvet gives off the very Typical Young Upstart energy this entire episode, it's the 15 year old vs the 50 year old of "I have the proof it's all i need i am right" velvet gives off because 'dead angel that means they die' and the old man pointing the very obvious flaw "yeah, and how do they die?" Zestial is absolutely right to question the angels death as for all they know it was friendly fire, after all none of them have ever seen someone kill an angel and now suddenly 1 turns up dead? yeah great velvet let's all uprise and risk hells total obliteration based on ONE FUCKING CORPSE.

The lines from this show are part of my daily vocabulary and life that it’s not even funny.
I love the little montage of Alastor and Zestial’s old-timey pleasantries while every normal sinner in the background is either fleeing or offing themselves rather than risk being in the line of sight of those overlords.
I love how Zestials eyes just narrow slightly as Velvets insults. To me that’s speaks volumes he KNOWS he stronger than she. He’s got nothing to prove to her. To me he was thinking “Careful now CHILD.
Individually absolutely. Valentino has *some* physical strength but all in all the Vees are pretty hopeless on their own, only their alliance makes them powerful/threatening. Dealing with Velvette alone would be a piece of cake considering Zestial is even more powerful than Alastor

It says a lot about the respect Carmilla commands among the Overlords that Alastor didn't lash out at her in any way in response to her dig at his ego, considering he was all too happy to troll Lucifer himself for similar reasons.
The fact that Alastor can understand what zestial is saying with his Shakespeare-like language is what baffled me 😁

I do agree with Zestial's argument. They just FOUND the angel dead. They have no physical evidence of it being slain by a Demon.
Despite Zestial only having like five minutes of screen time he’s is legitimately my favorite character! I love everything about him. His voice, his design, and overall presence is so good! All of it makes me want to see and learn more about him.

I have a theory about Alastor:
I think he isn’t the original radio demon.
Hear me out before criticize me.
The scene where we get Alastors background is right after the song „hells greatest dad“ and is presented via a renarration from Mitzi, where we get the information that Alastor appeared one day and then starts to take down one overlord after the other and quickly starts to collect souls.
Through prior information from Husk and his use of his staff to channel his power we know this feat is likely only possible because of his contract with someone.
However I think that Alastors appearance and the fact that overlord go missing are separat, as we also know from Mitzi that Alastor only reveal his identity as the radio demon later.
For a man this prideful and ignorant as Alastor this seems deeply out of place. Why wouldn’t he let all hell know that no one is safe from him?
Maybe because he wasn’t the radio demon at that time.
For someone who strives for power it would make sense to make use of everything you got so maybe he searched for this entity while everyone else is shivering in fear (because of the entity).
What entity could be behind the radio demon instead?
Maybe a character that is closely related to the medium (through her melodious voice) and cannot show her face?
Yes I am thinking about Lilith.
But why should Lilith slaughter her people?
Because she wants to centralize hells power.
But why centralizing power when Lucifer is sitting on his throne with all the power you can think?
Because Lucifer gave up to reach status quo with heaven. And if talking to them fails, maybe war will make heaven and hell equals.
But for this you need a strong leader that is willing to do anything (so Charlie isn’t the one she was searching).
So when Alastor came to her despite her actions she knew that he was perfect.
So they made a deal (because Lilith was the queen for the longest time she knows how to make a perfect deal by the time of Alastors arrival [thats the reason why Alastor wasn’t able to break the deal even after 7 years]).
Afterwards Alastor revealed himself as the radio demon creating a myth in the process (Lilith gave him the power she gained from the lords as part of the deal channeled into his staff [an item that you can take away at any time] while Alastor obligated to be loyal to her).
Why then could Vox nearly beat Alastor?
Because Lilith needs Vox.
Why needs Lilith Vox?
Because he is an inventor.
And inventors can get creative if you need to find a way to harm the invincible (angels).
So then why did Alastor and Lilith vanished after that fight?
Because of Charlie.
Charlies plan to build the Hazbin Hotel is nearly guaranteed to create a response from heaven (more exterminations or they are willing to help [which is obviously never gonna happen]) which can only lead to two outcomes:
1. Lucifer protects hell and now Lilith can present a powerful leader to help Lucifer.
2. Lucifer does nothing and Lilith has a way to protect hell.
In both cases if the defense is successful she has plenty of angelic steel to attack heaven (I believe that the reason why Camilla has enough angelic steel to provide the cannibals is because of Lilith smuggling some down).
So where were Alastor and Lilith for those 7 years?
Alastor would leave pentagram city and hide somewhere in hell to guarantee his survival through the next exterminations.
Lilith would go to a place between heaven and hell (where she would make her deal with Adam).
The reason why I don’t think the last scene was heaven is because Lilith is a sinner and as we saw with the three lambs in Helluva boss sinners can’t enter heaven (which btw means that Vaggie and Charlie aren’t sinners as they could enter heaven which is awesome to me).
Finally with Adams defeat heaven lost their leader and she can now go to war.
But the problem is that she underestimated Alastor as he made a deal with Charlie.
Even though it is only a small favor he could use it to get Charlie to redeem Lucifer, which could lead to Charlie being on the throne and Alastor to play against Lilith (as Alastor was making deals on his own [He won Husks soul during a game which he participated in because he was bored and Nifty probably more by accident than intentionally]) which he could use to become king of hell himself.
Some of you know may want to make the point that he wouldn’t betray the Hazbin cast like that (especially Charlie) and argue with the scene where he and Nifty where in private right before the second extermination.
And yes he says something that could be interpreted that he cares about the cast but don’t think that you can justify this interpretation because of the word “almost” and the context that he has a deal with Charlie which was his entire goal during the season.
TL:DR
Almost everything we know about Alastor is secondhand at best (the only thing we can take for granted is the fact that he is owned by someone). So there is the possibility that someone else did the murders and Alastor simply declared himself the radio demon (another point for this argument is his call out right before he defence the hotel [I think it was before he defended the hotel. Here is in case the line I argue with; “…not to mess with the radio demon“ instead of “…not to mess with me“]).
The original radio demon would be Lilith (as her main power is singing and she needs to act out the shadow so any other form of media wouldn’t work) to push her goal that heaven and hell become equal. As Lucifer didn’t achieve it through words she tries to achieve it through war.
