A far better movie than expected. The recreation of the battle scenes was expertly done and well directed. 1981 and financed by Muammar Gaddafi, so it is no surprise that it is broadly accurate, but does not portray accurately the war crimes and atrocities of Anthony Quinn's Arab character. Also no surprise that the Italian government rightly banned it for many years, as its portrayal is skewed with an agenda.

Quite an extraordinary movie about events just after the rise of the Italian dictator Mussolini in the 1920's. An interesting historical period, in that the leader of the Libyan rebels, Omar al-Mukhtar, is still a much respected figure in North African history . General Rodolfo Graziani, the Italian commander, was also involved in the North African battles during WW2. Some of the battle scenes are rather graphic but still a movie well worth watching.

Ethiopia is the only African country that defeated Western Colonialism on its home turf. If Omar Al Muktar's uprising had succeeded, Libya would have done what Ethiopia did.
