Older vid, I know, but thanks for showing this. I'm about to reassemble my EJ251 and I was stressing out over making sure the piston and rod were aligned prior to putting in the wrist pins.
My 05 Impreza RS had to have the lifters replaced back in December, after driving around with a misfire in one cylinder for like 4 years. Upon putting the engine back together, a bad knock ensued and they had to tear the engine down to discover the problem - a bad rist pin. They rebuilt the engine and now it has a mild knock under load. Is this a big problem? My mechanic doesn't notice the knock, naturally. So he thinks I'm paranoid.
The noise you are hearing is not a rist pin it is the piston skirt slapping the bore. It usually happens because new pistons were not used and/or the bore was not properly honed to the exact tolerance. Piston slap is not really an issue here it is just very annoying.
