St John's East, Simply the best house in the city.
The New York City Fire Department, formally the Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) has the responsibility of protecting the citizens and property of New York City's five boroughs from fires and fire hazards, providing emergency medical services, technical rescue as well as providing first response to biological, chemical and radioactive hazards. The department has its headquarters in 9 MetroTech Center, Downtown Brooklyn,[3] and its training academy (The FDNY Fire Academy) on Randall's Island.[4]
The FDNY, the largest municipal fire department in the United States, and the second largest in the world after the Tokyo Fire Department, has approximately 11,080 uniformed officers and firefighters and over 3,300 uniformed EMTs and paramedics. It faces an extraordinarily varied challenge. In addition to responding to building types that range from wood-frame single family homes to high-rise structures, there are the many bridges and tunnels, large parks and wooded areas that can give rise to major brush fires, and one of the largest subway systems in the world. These challenges add yet another level of firefighting complexity and have led to the creation of the motto for FDNY firefighters of New York's Bravest.

Love the videos with the old rigs. Wish there were more videos like this without the rigs of today. Miss the Macks and especially loved the shot of R2 in the beginning. Thanks for sharing.

Over In NEWARK , a few companies hit 6,000 runs a year , yeah the good old days . Engine 6 was the busiest in NJ.
Amazing crews back then. Affirmative action and insane quotas has brought in a lot of crap.

Anyone know what siren they're running at the 00:42 second mark? Definitely different from the classic FDNY PA300 you hear later in the video

Sad day when those who do good try to get put down. I still don't understand why most city departments don't go full out on the siren. A Q siren, a couple blasts of the air horn, or short wails is all they do now.

Hobbitchoker Funny I’m reading your comment 6 years later & just today some members of the NY city council proposed an ordinance banning the Electronic Q’s on FDNY rigs and forcing them to go to European style electronic high-low sirens. Crazy.

    Hobbit
I worked in that area for many years and in answer to you siren question, the answer is that the siren is a warning device and you have companies responding on busy streets from different directions and you need to hear their sirens, to know if and where they are coming from.
You don't want to meet by accident !

There is a video of this house recently. Very depressing, they are driving Ferrara Rigs with vista domes and they of course have the computer voice version of "ladder goes" "engine goes"... So much for old school class of FDNY... Looks like the volunteers took over.

What are the hoses for they have hooked up to 234 engine in quarters? Are they for the exhaust from the rig?

I can't believe there are people who shot at fire fighters. What have they ever done to you except be there to save your hide. This is as sad and evil as killing children.
