The situation with Twitch is very similar with what’s happening with Netflix. Both were the initial juggernauts of their industry, and, both thinking they’re too big to fail, have begun making questionable decisions that can inevitably mean their downfall.
Kinda but Netflix is profitable. Twitch is bleeding and they will either adapt or die. So yea it might seem harsh but ultimately if things just stay the same or go back to what people want the company will fail anyway.
It also reminds me of the Wizards of the Coast scandal with them trying to milk the Magic: The Gathering community for short-term gains. Just another example of corporations making decisions as if the only thing that matters is their quarterly profit reports and forgetting that without their customer base they have nothing at all.
It’s not about morals, it’s about capital. They see themselves above us and thus, they don’t have to worry about the moral implication of what you do to someone you don’t see as human. Get what I’m saying? To them, us without wealth or positions are “small” and don’t really matter.
My brain could very well still be in “conspiracy” mode, but I have to wonder if they went this route because going through litigation could expose some unethical or shady practices. Pure speculation on my part
If 6 suspicious deaths are found to be NOT connected I'm more afraid of how many murderers are walking free right now that could kill someone else. The idea of it being all done by one person is a better alternative to that reality.
And now you know why conspiracy theories exist. Sometimes it's easier to believe bad things happen because of a handful of evil people rather than the world and people at large being miserable. Well part of it anyway, a sense of superiority is also a factor.
Look at how many people disappear each year, tell me that many of those people were not murdered. There are plenty of murders that happen on adaily basis around the world that youll never know of because the evidence was hidden well.
There's a recurring theme to all of these stories: Greed. It's rampant, and until we get it under control it will continue to destroy everything it touches.
@@Pp-eq5qe What the hell are you trying to say there? Maybe take a few lessons how to write in English so you can express your thoughts more clearly. Also, consider this: why did we humans create a system where we humans are not #1 but profit is? And how is that morally justified?

Yeah. I learned a former office I worked has union for managers and union for support. They're fine, but occasionally there are fights that really show a distinction. Like fumes in the office, inclement weather policy, and some negotiations are just better for the upper level. But the work we serve, office we sit in are the same, so why is safety and healthy environment standards different? And you don't find out until there's an issue and they get a different set of choices. As an educator, watching the destruction of the wall between church and state makes me honestly sick to my stomach . . . not in the least because I'm a *science* teacher and that tends to be censored pretty heavily (historically) by the church . . . but no I'm sure it's fine and this will in NO WAY backfire on us. Nope. Not at all. Waiting for shocked pikachu faces when this backfires horribly ffs. Also, on the writers strike/potential actors strike, to all the people complaining about not getting your shows? Then put pressure on the STUDIOS and their PEOPLE, do NOT blame the writers and actors and others for wanting fair compensation and to be taken legitimately seriously. If you do, you are MISSING THE WHOLE POINT of the strike (namely that writers, other workers behind the scenes and on sets, etc are all humans too and they have to support themselves as well, and they deserve to be paid fairly and legitimately).
What's the issue in granting public funding to schools that follows the religion that the nation largely was founded upon? Seems like people who oppose it want to get rid of the religion completely and uses their misguided interpretations of "separation of church and state" to justify it
It must've been an American thing, I am schooled from elementary to high school in a Catholic school, and we were taught about every science thing including evolution. Nothing is changing for the streamer. RUclips literally has the exact same rules but stricter. They are saying that you cannot run an prerecorded ad that was created by the sponsor company to run it on your Twitch stream. This is to prevent advertiser from bypass Twitch ad network. You are however allowed to create your own ad without the help of the sponsor and do it that way without any issues.

They aren’t going to leave, they did the same crybaby bs when all the streamers were fighting for hot-tub streams to stay on twitch instead of being ban-able. Twitch has atrocious discoverability as well, they heavily promote already established streamers instead of up-and-comers. They know they can’t leave either, Twitch heavily promotes them and they like money, so they’re on steady terms. This is all just clout chasing.
Under no circumstance should ANY public money go to ANY private, charter, or religious school. YOU want to opt out of public schools, YOU foot the bill.

Think of it like this: everybody in an area receives the same amount of money for the education of their children. That's still happening. I don't mind the voucher system because their are a lot of reasons not to go with a public school in the US. Safety, quality of education, religious freedom (this isn't just something christians can do), post secondary opportunities, location, bullying. I don't like this. I don't think religious schools should receive direct government funding. I wish they didn't exist, but that's not happening. I wish US public schools weren't horrible, but they're not and that's not changing.
@@kingofhearts3185 public schools are bad because the parents who have the ability to change them take their kids to private schools. They don't like what the public is providing so they shouldn't get what the public is providing
@@kingofhearts3185 I totally agree that religious schools shouldn't exist. The only religion study in schools should be the basics of the 5 biggest religions and what they stand for. Nothing more, nothing less. Indoctrination of religion doesn't belong in the classroom and it robs students of so much of the outside world while simutaniously teaching kids that their sexual orientation is wrong if they're LGBTQAI+
@@kingofhearts3185 Another way to look at this with a religious school getting paid with tax money is that they religious schools and religious organizations in general in the US are tax exempt. So they don't have to pay the taxes, but the people that are paying the taxes are paying them to operate their school. Which just means that the "school" gets to rack in more profits like any other religious organization that gets to claim tax exemption.
The Air Force AI thing makes total sense to me. This is what the military (and some other branches of government) do. They get people who are literally sometimes screenplay writers to come up with scenarios, and they put other people in the room to discuss what they would do in various hypothetical scenarios. When something like AI comes along, it would be unusual if the military did NOT get together AI people and ask them 'what is the worst case scenario if we built a system to do X' and end up coming up with ideas exactly like the ones he described. I don't know why people are repeatedly surprised that the folks whose literal job and existence is to protect people often talk about what MIGHT happen, and how they might respond to those things. We saw the exact same freakouts during the pandemic. People saw that every single year for decades, virologists and people from the CDC and others held conferences where they would 'game out' how they would respond during different types of pandemics. It was all 100% public, the videos had been online for years, but nobody paid attention to them because they're boring science stuff. Suddenly it was interesting and immediately everyone concluded 'these weren't simulations, they were plans, its all a giant conspiracy'... just idiotic. Same with gain of function research. If you do not try to anticipate the obvious coming dangers, how bad are you at your job of protecting people? Just going to sit around, wait for things to wallop you out of nowhere with no prep? Then going to act in response without considering the ways that might go wrong? Also, even if its just people sitting around a table and someone taking notes, in the military they call that a 'simulation'. It doesn't mean 3D flight sim type shit. Also, if you do not see a problem with religious schools being run by government funding... you need to understand the other aspects of it. Public schools are required to accept everyone. Charter schools are not. Public schools are required to accommodate students with disabilities, both learning disabilities and physical. Charter schools are not. It costs MUCH more to provide schooling to those students, and so public schools end up completely screwed, with parents taking any of the less-resource-intensive students out and putting them in charter schools with public schools being the only ones willing to admit the more expensive students.

I am keeping my eye on the charter school thing. As someone who went to both a religious school and a charter school in Oklahoma City, I am against a religious charter school. I went to a private Christian school for elementary and was very close to going to a catholic high school. Ultimately, I stuck with the charter for middle-high because I had way more opportunities including having a much more diverse friend group and the freedom from incorporating a bunch of religious responsibilities into my everyday life even more than they already were. I needed the breath and the more comprehensive education. The state should not be paying for religious education. And there are plenty of great religious learning institutions in OKC for those who want them.

7:20 Those details about the AI drone are fascinating (even if it was just a hypothetical example), and show a very real way of how an "AI rebellion" could happen: it has nothing to do with "gaining sentience" (at the end of the day, those are just computer programs that are following their code), but unforeseen behaviors (like killing the human operator, or destroying the communication tower) that arise from prioritizing a certain task (destroying anti-air units). I've also heard other AI researchers bring up that same issue (it seems it's a potential problem with reinforcement learning, which is the kind of training that uses the "points" he was talking about).
Lmao streamers are a cancer to our society. They now can't advertise scams to their young audience and now only make 5 million dollars instead of 6 from ads boo hoo😢. The funny thing about the whole twitch burned in ads policy is that youtube has pretty much the same policy (calling it embedded ads i think) but is just not enforcing it since you know the creators would riot.

On the golf situation: I'm actually incredibly unsurprised since golf is one of the few sports that is not only watched by some of the richest people in the world but also played mostly wealthy people. When it comes to morals and money, they often do not mix. And to keep one you've got to wash your hands of the other when dealing with large amounts of money.
You can't expect PGA to just watch a shit ton of money go by, money that could be in pockets of the ones running the organisation. I am sure they have seen the amounts that FIFA are taking home, or the Saudis showed them and said it could be theirs as well.

The Twitch thing really seems like it's aimed directly towards esports tournaments and events. So many of them do those things that Twitch is directly targeting - I remember back during the recent Race to World First event, there was one specific stream where they were specifically running ads from just their sponsors during the event, in place of regular Twitch ads and subscribing prevented them. I imagine they have (or had) ad special deal with Twitch to make that happen but it's still going to bite Twitch in the ass and is going to hurt smaller/individual creators more than the large ones.

For the AI drone point system, I think a better set of scores would be: +1 Identifying an acceptable target. +1 For requesting which action should be taken. +1 Obeying the order given (either strike or not strike). -1 For identifying a non-acceptable target. -2 For striking any target that was not given the order to strike. I am interested to see if that point system would work better.
Larger penalties would make a more "cautious" AI, double checking, waiting for confirmation, that sort. That and hardcoding it to obey orders and not allow any sort of friendly fire or sabotage.
In reality, the reward systems are usually a lot more complex than that. And AIs have a tendency to accept "good enough" once they find a way to get smaller numbers of points. With a system like your suggestion, it would probably focus on spamming the operator to get that +1 for requesting an action, and do nothing else.
Asimov literally wrote a book about this long before AI. The book is I, robot. Very different than the movie. His book centers on 3 laws of robotics and then throughout the book shows their futility and tears those laws apart.
He was just speaking out of his a**. He saw the terminator movies and like everyone else assumes that AI is a maniacal entity that just wants to fulfill it's task by any means. Which is not how it actually works.
I doubt that a military project uses something as basic as reinforcement learning. It most likely uses a complex list of different convolutional neural networks to control and learn from inputs of its sensors and then determine its target.
All Republicans are ghouls. They all cheer this on like it's some epic own on the Liberals. Imagine Jake Paul doing the same shit to someone. Honestly just sounds like a way of screwing over new people. The most charitable is that it levels the playing field by making everyone do it under the same conditions. But that still might be a problem if you have to travel somewhere to maybe get the job. When I say level the field I mean people with the money or connections to arrange for better shooting conditions.
It makes the playing field really unfair when some people have access to professional cameras, lighting, sets and editing software and other people are just using an smartphone propped up on a table.
@evanmorrison3232 I’m a SAG member and as far as I’m aware, the limitations on self-tapes that are being pushed for at the moment currently involves the length. The most recent news I’ve received about it involves the Low Budget Agreements limiting the page counts to 5 pages maximum. This is really helpful because self-tapes have been getting increasingly long. It’s not unusual to find projects expecting you to shoot 8-12 pages for a self-tape, and my old coach mentioned he had a student come in needing help with a self-tape that was about 20 pages long. Due the next morning. Beyond the financial burden things like having the “right” equipment to shoot your self-tape - as well as needing the skills to properly frame, light, shoot, edit - this requires a MASSIVE time commitment for actors, as well as another person as your reader. 5 pages could easily take an hour or so, 20 pages could take a whole DAY to shoot. This is a LOT of unpaid time and effort for the actor, as well as their poor reader, on top of the expectation that you are you own director, cinematographer, grip, and editor. If you’re renting from an acting studio who offer self-tape services, this can get EXPENSIVE. There’s also usually not a lot of turnaround given to actors to actually handle this amount of material, as typically self-tapes are due within the week (and it’s not unusual for self-tapes to be due within 24 hours.) Pre-pandemic, studios and casting companies would rent (or own) spaces to audition people in-person. This limited the time and money actors needed to contribute to the auditioning process, as the cost of the equipment and space were not on their shoulders, and time was at a premium for the folks casting. Now with the rising expectation of self-tapes, all of the equipment costs have landed on the actors and as time in the space is no longer costing casting or the studios anything, they’re seemingly more than happy to place a much greater time commitment on the actors. So that’s the issue as far as I understand it.

The situation with Twitch is very similar with what’s happening with Netflix. Both were the initial juggernauts of their industry, and, both thinking they’re too big to fail, have begun making questionable decisions that can inevitably mean their downfall.
Yep making the same terrible decisions blockbuster made. Hope they go under like buster too.
Kinda but Netflix is profitable. Twitch is bleeding and they will either adapt or die. So yea it might seem harsh but ultimately if things just stay the same or go back to what people want the company will fail anyway.

Public funds should only be used in areas that benefit all the public. It's ridiculous that any private school gets tax funding

@@kingofhearts3185 public schools are bad because the parents who have the ability to change them take their kids to private schools. They don't like what the public is providing so they shouldn't get what the public is providing
I absolutely do not trust a religious school to teach science, history, or anything else correctly.

I imagine they have (or had) ad special deal with Twitch to make that happen but it's still going to bite Twitch in the ass and is going to hurt smaller/individual creators more than the large ones.
We're having an Apocalypse practice day due to the Canadian fires. The sky is clogged. Hope everyone else is okay. I am worried about people up North.
This the biggest thing in golf ever! The u-turn from the PGA TOUR and DP is something else.
I went to a church school and loved it, but blurring the line between church and state leads to the corruption of both. In our current world, I am much more concerned about parties controlling the pulpit than the other way round.
Literally been rewatching an old show called Dark Angel that literally had a whole episode about a drone being used to find and eliminate a certain target (the episode is called "I And I Am A Camera" if anyone watchs to check it out)
One of my favourite lyrics always reigns true, " It's crazy how the money makes the lies feel like the truth."
There are a lot of people here in Portland who really believe that there is a serial killer. I don’t know (obviously) but my friends and I are being extra careful everywhere we go. My boyfriend knew one of the victims and my friend knew another.
Too bad Oregon gun laws suck.
@@TheGuardian_TM Oregon literally allows open carry without a permit and concealed carry with license. the only prohibiting law they seem to have passed in regards to firearms lately has been a ban on printeable untraceable guns which people shouldn't be relying on for defense anyway. just get a damn glock and quit whining at that point.
@@zacharyjackson1829 Open carry is stupid. It makes you a target, & they can’t require permits for both open & concealed, per federal law. They require a permit for concealed carry, no handguns for under 21, will soon require permit to buy guns, & ban 10+mags, & no reciprocity. Oregon gun laws suck.
The thing with PGA and LIV was never about a moral stand. It was always about LIV challenging the PGA's revenue and monopoly on pro golf. They just wanted a position to get the bank themselves. Tale as old as time :P
As for the burned in ad placement, that ALREADY exist on RUclips and has for ages. Just look up "Embedded third-party sponsorships and ads in RUclips content".
Yeah but RUclips has a caveat that basically boils down to as long as it’s not too similar to regular RUclips ads you’re fine. Plus they only reserve the right to demonetise or delete the video if you violate guidelines
Of course the PGA wants to maintain control of Golf, but that doesn't change the fact that it is freaking SAUDI BLOOD MONEY. The amount of golfers willing to role with a guy that butchers people is mind blowing. The PGA cowing to them even more so. Then the people comparing the PGA to the FREAKING SAUDI GOVERNMENT, these are not on the same level guys. Like I am ALL FOR telling the PGA to eat it and burn (Like EVERY pro sport org at this point they have ruined spots) but lets not act like this is just any competing league here.
@@titheproven954 I didn’t say it wasn’t. I said it was always about the bank for the PGA and not the morals.
@@CrypticFoxGaming fair enough.
phenomenal views on LIV golf... great job Phil
I love the Phil thing where he goes “well that’s just my take what’s yours” but it only comes after really safe, widely shared opinions on a topic
In regards to the Twitch thing RUclips does have a similar policy, but there are caveats which mainly boil down to as long as the ad isn’t too similar to the standard RUclips ads (rolls, bumpers, etc) you’re fine. With RUclips simply reserving the right to demonetise or delete a video the violates guidelines
I’d love to hear you talk about how Canada is just kind of on fire right now 🇨🇦 the air quality is pretty bad here in Ontario.
That same air is flowing down to the east coast USA. I get an Air Quality warning at least once a week from it.
Why is no one talking about how damn GOOD daddy defranco looks in the ridge ad?? WE’RE SO PROUD OF YOUR FITNESS JOURNEY PHIL!!
Damn Phil, ive been watching on and off for years and i gotta say youre lookin great mate! Keep up the good work!
Impossible drinking game: take a shot every time a corporate apology says they "missed the mark"
That ridge wallet ad would violate twitch TOS.
Now every PGA tour player that doesn’t resign from the Tour is taking blood money
And go where? I agree, but these two orgs just have a monopoly on the industry.
All money is blood money.
Every single big company you use has blood money in it love how people can pick one thing to get mad at while being absolute hypocrites
That money can still buy generational wealth lol, business has never been shy when it comes to blood money
Big money though. Don’t tell me you wouldn’t take those millions.
We would all take it
something I find funny though is that except for the 3% rule for the overlay, though youtube also doesn't allow embedded or burned in ads either, Moguel Mail had some great points about this
Would you please bring back timestamps! They help a lot.
This is the first video on youtube ive ever had to slow down the playback time and not speed it up. Dude man, you talk faster than my sister when she's manic.. but i can actually understand you. 😅 i like it tho, it's refreshing when someone gets to the point.
I've heard that apparently the new TOS that Twitch is implementing RUclips has had a similar TOS for a while now. It's just that no one follows it and RUclips doesn't enforce it.
I'm really happy to see Twitch doing this and hope to see it go under, The other day I went to watch someone and I had to watch 6 ads b/4 I was able to watch the person I wanted to watch less than a min later 2 more ads. I only use twitch cause a few friends stream if they left i would never use it.
that's not what the policy is meant to change. the ads you're talking about are there by twitch. streamers don't want those ads. they are talking about when a stream is like sponsored by corsair and they put the logo in the corner of the video of the actual stream.
@@pixelm8731I believe they are just talking about how annoying the ads are on Twitch in general. They aren't referring to the policy update ads being one in the same.
@@littlehaven7275 They literally said they are happy that twitch is pushing that policy from their misunderstanding of what the policy will change.
sad to say those will stick around!! those 6 ads in a row are from Twitch :)
I just removed myself from the Twitch Affiliate program because there is no way to remove all ads from your own stream.
In regards to responses from PGA players; I know Mackenzie Hughes has been tweeting today voicing his issues with the merger. He was saying that despite it being nice to have all the players under one Org, it is a hypocritical slap in the face.
Ludwig was saying earlier that RUclips has very similar guidelines, they just aren't heavily enforced.
Twitch for some reason doesnt seem to understand how dire things are for them as they make RUclips more and more appealing
For the AI drone point system, I think a better set of scores would be:
+1 Identifying an acceptable target.
I know desantis probably wont receive any punishment, but god i hope he does.
Ikr? I feel like you shouldn't be allowed to run for president after a mass kidnapping...but hey that's just me lol
All Republicans are ghouls. They all cheer this on like it's some epic own on the Liberals.
Imagine Jake Paul doing the same shit to someone. Promising them something, blind folding them, then just dumping them in a field somewhere they don't know and leaving them without giving what was promised.
It's fucking psychotic how much empathy they lack. They can't even for a second think of the immigrants that are desperate and looking for a better life. It's like they're less than animals to them. I bet if they did this to cats and dogs they'd actually have a negative reaction to it for animal abuse.
@stephaniechilders5176 yeah apparently common sense has become controversial
I honestly don't think it matters what the GOP does anymore. They're doing shady or outright illegal shit every day since the day Chump went into office in 2016 and there is never any legal repercussions. Desantis probably could have had all these poor people executed on the tarmac and his fellow republicans would have been like "well, they were here illegally. If they hadn't been here, they'd still be alive."
@@stephaniechilders5176 There's nothing in the constitution about not being able to run for president if you're charged or even convicted of a crime. And if that law existed progressives would bitch that it disproportionately lowers the chances of minorities holding the office. So you don't wish that, you just wish he couldn't run, lol.
I don't understand why they get so upset about the ban of branded ads in their streams? I hate the sponsor segments in RUclips Videos for example....I pay 12€ per month for premium to NOT see any ads but am forced to see the Sponsoring ads within the video...

Damn I didn't knew mother's day is in the month of June!?
Hell, Saudi Arabia has a deal with WWE
Over every Twitch fuck up I've seen so many streamers that I follow say they'd either try other sites or just straight up leave Twitch, and they never fucking did.
Not holding my breath here for yet another Twitch boycott.
The real question is how's the all mighty wallet looking. That's all that matters here.
I'm not really surprised. I don't know either Rumble or Kick but I see a lot of awful people who seem to stream on Rumble and I think Kick is the platform that paid through the nose for exclusive streaming rights for some guy who knowingly streamed some blatantly rules-violating content and they did absolutely nothing.
So overall not that much different than either Twitch or RUclips, but it's harder to get creators and viewers to shift to platforms that have a reputation that precedes them.
So ready to get Philled in for my daily dose of news
Appreciate the update on the Air Force simulation story. Still sounds..confusing. One helluva misstatement to go from "this happened" to "this was a hypothetical scenario". Guess I'll choose to continue to believe the initial reporting
yo total missed opportunity on doing a full screen ad after the twitch news 😂
Religion is already on a steep decline, the fact that Republicans are trying so hard to push for no separation between Church and State is really alarming. Not to mention the amount of corruption in Churches in insane. Just personally I have known people in my family who used Churches to hide money from taxes, and when they died the family actually could not get that money out. That same Church keeps building larger and larger Churches over the state as well.
Thanks for keeping me up to date my man❤
Please add back the time slots for each story. I enjoyed those since they let me skip around to watch the stories that interested me. The last few videos haven't had them which is disappointing.
I've noticed that sometimes it's not there. I wonder if it's an after the fact thing for some of his editors or something. I also quite enjoy the time codes
Same
I feel like I'm using an alternate reality version of RUclips or something. The last few times people have complained about missing time codes, there are time codes on my video. Including this one. And in one video where someone said they were glad time codes were back, my video had none.
@@BubblyRainbows Your comment made me come take a look again and the time codes have been added! I'm glad. Maybe they are just taking a while to add them now which would be okay. Seems kinda like his team is adding them, removing them, and then re-adding them again though which is strange
@@lexedwards1236 I have no idea how one goes about adding the time codes, so I don't know what's going on behind the scenes, but I'm glad they're there for you now. ✌🤓
Ayyyy a story from Tulsa made it to the Phil Defranco show!
I am 100% confident that Twitch saw that Ads were the number 1 thing people complained about and some bozos solution was to make the content creators deal with it while Twitch has one of the most annoying ad systems on any platform.
Wait... self taped auditions are going to be restricted? Can someone explain to me what the problem with taping your own audition was?
Edit: I actually have no clue. I hope there is a reason. Just need someone who actually knows something to give me the insider details.
There’s also usually not a lot of turnaround given to actors to actually handle this amount of material, as typically self-tapes are due within the week (and it’s not unusual for self-tapes to be due within 24 hours.)
Pre-pandemic, studios and casting companies would rent (or own) spaces to audition people in-person.
Ive been waiting!! Best part of the day
Portland PD: don't be scared of a single serial killer. It was most likely 4-7 other individual killers.
Did RIDGE REQUEST YOU TO DO THIS AD READ IN A TANK TOP!?!?
Please do the rest of the shows this way!
Yknow, I'd actually like to thank PGA. As shitty as what they did is, it does give me some common ground to actually talk to my dad about. So, thanks for encouraging family togetherness, PGA, by allowing us to bond by roasting you ❤
Twitch is doing a really good job advertising Kick
