I've been working on 1911's for 40 years, a quick tip. I go to Wal-Mart and buy 100 count bags of bamboo teriyaki skewers, they're only 2 or 3 dollars and 100 will last a LONG time. They're pointed on one end and flat on the other, they make a great tool for moving the sear/disconnector, leaf spring, etc around and can't do any damage. What they're best for is depressing the thumb safety plunger to put the thumb safety back in, they will never mar your finish. I never use a metal tool to push the plunger in, you'll scratch the finish and it's always visible. When you work on someone's hugely expensive custom 1911 you always take every precaution never to leave a mark.
Great tip. I also have a delrin pin that I use also. But most of the guns I work on are competition guns and usually more beat up than anything I could potentially mar on the guns. 😊
@@tacticalbert Please help me understand the following, I can't find anything on this question... I lost my Grip Frame Screw on my Girsan Witness 2311 (they call it a Trigger Bushing and screw)... what does it do, what is it for? I lost mine while shooting and didn't realize it until a day or two later. It doesn't look like it does anything, just a sleeve with a male/female screw that doesn't screw into anything but itself. Is it still safe to shoot without that screw? Thanks in advance, love your detailed information you provide on your channel!
@tacticalbert Thanks so much for the response. Thanks for the tip on where to get them as well. EAA responded, (they needed proof of purchase and a Srl No.), but they haven't provided any kind of update since then. Thanks again.
Yes, there are a couple of things I show that SDI doesn’t teach. Wait till you see what’s needed to install SVI triggers. Most of your learning is going to come from experience when you start your career. Good luck to you!
It was good while I was deployed. Once home I lost interest. I did 3 semesters and had a good time. Once I was getting into required courses for how to run a gun shop I lost interest. I'm just doing this for fun and to grow experience.@@cheyenneobregon184
Popped up in my feed. Text Book for 1911/2011's. Especially for the tips on technique. You tend to pick up the technique the more you do detail strips. Good information. I use small punches, a pocket screw driver, Bamboo skewers, Old credit cards, and a 10-8 delrin tool. Lay every tool out on the bench at hands reach. The 1911 design is classic. It definitely teaches you patience. If anything is hard to put together you're doing it wrong.
That had to be the most detailed & informative “how to video” I’ve ever seen. Amazing job with the fine details & technique. Watch a lot of 2011 videos but this by far the best and should be shared and viewed by all double stack enthusiasts. Hope to see move videos!
Thank you, this video is great, I have taken 2011s apart and put them back together and there is always something that is overlooked on accident. I recently bought a Cheeley L2-M5 flush mag commander conceal carry grip module for my Staccato C2 done up by Monsson Tactical, I bought a Nighthawk that had the same grip just not the flush fit and I fell in love with it. The grip is perfect a bit aggressive but not overly aggressive. I appreciate this video I will be using it as my guide once my Cheeley grip comes I honestly think you video is one of the only start to finish that doesn't rush through and just show but explains for example the placement of the sear spring, other videos it would have shown it put in but not put an emphasis on how it should sit. I know for the most part how to swap grips and clean, take apart etc., but I will still use this video as my guide great information you explained how to do what you were doing and showed it also so again thank you great video and I'm positive it will help many more people.
Excellent step by step disassembly. I like that you explain why you're doing what you're doing. Most videos they breeze through it and disassemble so fast you have to go back and watch several times to understand why. I am wanting grip work on my C2 and this video made me feel more confident about removing the grip module. Thanks
Extremely good video. You can actually see everything you're doing and you explained everything well. Thank you, please don’t ever take this down. I might need it again and if anyone I know needs it I'll share it. Thanks again.
Thank you so much!!!I worked on installing a new mainspring housing last night for hours. I kept getting hammer follow. Your video solved it. Keeping the trigger pulled with the hammer all the way down solved it. Thanks again.
I just watched this video for the second time in a month, from start to finish lol. This is got to be the best video on the 2011 grip install/ parts install that I've seen it out there. Nice leisurely pace, detailed showing all the angles, showing all the details, showing all the little tricks. Bravo. I can definitely do this now. Thank you
Great video. Two things, wish you would have compared the weight of both grips. And second you can mention that the sear and disconnector doesn’t have to be removed in order to remove the frame from the grip.
Correct. Sear and disconnector didn’t have to be removed but I wanted to show people a full disassembly of the frame and grip. I have my slide sent out for an optic cut. It wouldn’t be hard to weigh them now.
PT used to make them or maybe they still do for the honcho guns. Akai and limcat also make them. It’s a rounded bottom to help with twist - correction. It really works! USPSA shooters use it for faster reloads. They also add a ton of weight too. akaicustomparts.com/product/akai-custom-2011-stainless-magwell-fits-cheely-svi/

Amazing video. I'm sure you already know this, but you don't have to remove the safeties, grip safety, sear, etc to change the grip. I've gotten to where I can change a grip in just a few minutes since you don't really have to remove all those things.
Great video. Definitely one of the best how-to videos. Just a question, did you need to remove the safeties? I just did a new grip install on one of my 2011’s and I didn’t need to remove the thumb safeties in order to change the grip.

First of all Fantastic video! I got this same grip for my Stacc P and wanted to get an infinity trigger. Would it require much fitting when all said and done?
The Infinity trigger is going to require you to drill and tap a special pre-travel post for the trigger shoe. It’s much easier with the plastic grips but not that hard if you have the right tools.
This video was extremely informative, thank you. I ordered a PT Hero grip and swapped it onto my Staccato XC and the grip safety would no longer engage. Looking at the internals, it looks like the grip safety isn't making contact with the trigger bow. Any idea where to go from here? My gunsmith couldn't figure it out either.
A couple of things have to happen here. If you adjusted your pretravel too far back, your grip safety will not engage. So reset your pretravel on the trigger bow. Next is to make sure you have the right most finger on the sear spring calibrated (bent) outward a bit to give the grip safety some tension.

Red Hill Tactical makes holsters for 2011’s with a nitrofin.
