Making a quilt for my neighbor who always watches my house when we are gone. He loves boating, so now i am thinking of doing a row of fish under a boat on his quilt!! I am always inspired by your videos! My list of quilts and quilt projects is 3yrs long because i always watch you every week! :)
That is a great idea! The little fish under the boat will only add to the beauty of the quilt. We are so thrilled that you are inspired by Jenny's tutorials, thank you for your comment. :)
I really appreciate and enjoy watching these tutorials verses the "Live" ones. These are so relaxing and easy to follow along! I feel the "Live" ones are all over the place, confusing and a bit harried. Thank you for still making these type of tutorials.
This is a most adorable little quilt! I would say it has a lot of little steps and little pieces but patience making them would so be worthwhile. I absolutely adore all your tutorials! You are fabulously talented and fun! I give thanks to God for putting you in my path. :)
Hi Jenny. A friend gave me a bag of scraps and I made this quilt,,!!!! I am making a matching pillow. I love your tutorials they make me believe I can do this and even though I have purchased fabric for many of your tutorials. This is the first one I have actually done. Keep up the great work. You are an inspiration
Just sewed up a sample tester for this adorable fish block to see how it would go. WOW!..Can't believe how easy and fun it is to sew up!!!! I'm hooked now on making the quilt with a fun placing of the fish :) Perfect timing on finding this as I will make it as a gift to me for my upcoming move to Florida! :)) Thank you Jenny for all you put forth in showing us your creative patterns and keeping us a sewing and a sewing away!! You're the greatest!!
Aloha Jenny, thank you for this awesome tutorial! I just finished a baby quilt for my grand nephew, born last month, using Hawaiian prints. Again, thank you, thank you!
Hi Jenny. I love that I feel like I am in the room with you and you are just telling me about your life and family as you teach me to be a better more efficient quilter. I like the assembly line method also. My husband and I are scuba divers and I have never met a fish I didn't like. HA. I am now making my own fish quilt. its going to be great.
I have made this a couple of times & have had fun picking out batiks for the fish. It is a good way to use up scraps! I have used a Grunge fabric for the background. Once you get the process figured out, it's easy!
Love the quilt! (and the idea of putting in one of the fish backwards!), but I watched this entire video waiting to see you make the cute "fish face" that came in the daily e-mail. Don't tell me that got left out on the "cutting room" floor. Too cute!!
Love this block!! I used a 5" square for the triangles and it comes out to a 6 1/2" block. Great border. Also, I did not stitch down the tail, used a seed bead just to tack the middle and it looks so cute. Thanks lady!
Love the way you explain the whole thing. Very beautiful quilt. I'm a beginner but this is certainly in the future for me to do. Thank you, blessings Laura M
I suppose you could also use 4 1/2” squares and set the rows on the diagonal. That would eliminate the need to set each fish on point as a block. This is a great pattern and so fun to make up! I’m doing two of them for my grand nephews.
Agreed. I wouldn't mess with all those little triangles and just do a big white square in between the fish and then just have to cut the ends of the diagonal rows to proper length.
I think that it would require us to use a little brain power with measurement, maybe strips but they would have to be skinny strips sewn together depending on the size block ( save extra for gills and tail ). Or like Jenny use part of her measurements, but use on a bigger scale. Pencil and eraser would help here, then cut out measure add seam allowance. We are quilters I am sure if we just thought about enlarging we would could do it. We don’t have too 1 after 1 we could stagger them which would fill the quilt. Sometimes you see something and you know what if I do it this way.
1bcsurvivor if you use layer cake, you’re essentially just doubling the size of the body of the fish; why not just double the rest of the measurements for the fish block?
If you use red, yellow, and orange "fish" but rotate them 90 degrees, you can make trees on a hill. I would recommend using a green background instead of white. It would be a beautiful trees on hills quilt!
Such a cute idea! I think the gals have been super busy lately, did you notice the fuzzy lint on her needle shaft? First time I’ve seen that. I can’t wait to see what projects they have been working on.
I hate it when the fabrics recommended are “sold out forever”😝 You make excellant videos! I finished a throw 48x55 before it has been quilted. 5 blocks wide 6 blocks long. It turned out great.. I just had to start it before I received my pattern and did complete the top thanks to your excellant tutorial.did not see how to add a photo or I would have.
I saw a quilt similar to this hanging high on the wall in a small interior mall at the Ketchikan waterfront. I could never figure out the cutting/sewing pattern. Thanks!
One fish two fish red fish blue fish! A Dr. Seuss baby quilt! I love the fabric line you're using, it's so bright and colorful. I have an off the wall question for you, what are the dimensions of the table you're working on? My husband is going to build one for me and yours seems the perfect size.
Missouri Star Quilt Company Thank you! I should have been more specific by asking what the surface dimensions are, not the height. Sorry about that. I just don’t have a big enough surface area to work on and sometimes it’s a struggle.
Now I am thinking if all the fish are the same color and size, and then you add in the larger fish you want to identify- one in a odd color, two more in another color, then a red fish, and blue fish, plus your oddball with a little star, and and another oddball with a car, and it would totally be a Dr Seuss quilt! It would not be too hard to plan what size the bigger fish should be, as the white background could be added so the larger ones equal the size of 4 of the smaller blocks put together. My mind is spinning with possibilities. My first grand-baby was just born- this would be a perfect gift with the book.
Out of curiosity, is there a reason you didn't just add a same size square and put your rows together on the diagonal? Then you would only have to do the setting triangles on the very outside corners.
Does the digital download offer any more info than what's in the RUclips tutorial? I'm fairly new to quilting but I made a sample block just from watching the video. Came out great due to your easy explanations! Should I still order the digital download? Thanks!
Didn't you show a quilt that you had made with these fish at the bottom or was it a table runner??? I can't find THAT video... going to try this block!!
I totally love Jenny new tutorial video on Summer School , I have a question that I’m not sure which On is which, I snap two pictures, one says1 3/4 background fabric and Jenny says 2 3/4 background fabric, may I ask which one is right?
Jenny, seems you got a little verklempt when talking about the quilt you made for your son attending college in Hawaii. 😥 As always, thanks for the simple steps, making this fish block is gonna be fun!
In the beginning she says we will be cutting 4 1/2 In squares of the white fabric. Then later she says take the 4 inch square and cut it diagonally. Which is right? Also, she says finished block is 6 1/4 but pdf says 5 3/4 finished.

Great idea to combine the two block designs. What if Jenny's fish block circles the boats as a border?
Oh! I might have to try that! Thanks! :)

Melanie, thank you so much for you feedback. We greatly appreciate your comment! :)

Did you get to make alot of your quilts during 2020 pandemic time?

Thank you Jenny, I made the fish quilt and the card tricks quilt, I wouldn't have been able to do them without you. I love your tutorials. Marie
You are absolutely the best instructor. I learn so much from you on every video. Thank you!
Back from Hospital I know Jenny makes me happy again. 💖

Jenny This is such an adorable quilt so many different ways to do the fish, thank you, you are such an inspiration
Jenny, you are amazing! Excellent instructor. I’ve been looking for a fish block for my niece who loves to fish, and this is PERFECT! Thank you…💕
I have made this a couple of times & have had fun picking out batiks for the fish. It is a good way to use up scraps! I have used a Grunge fabric for the background. Once you get the process figured out, it's easy!
Love this block - especially with the little curved tail and how you simplified this cute design! Thank you!!
I am so happy about this fish quilt...thank you so much for sharing your talent.
MSQC you guys are the BEST!!!! Thanks once again, Jenny. 😀
That is so cute. Thanks for showing us. Especially including the size difference.
This is going to be my next baby quilt. Awesome tutorial, Jenny. You make my week.......every week.
Perfect for batiks!! Love these little guys!
I just made this block it is adorable thanks so much Jenny . I well use it as a border around a storm at sea quilt .

Very fun quilt. Would look good with a turquoise background too. I love the technique for the tails to give shape and dimension.
So cute! I think I may make one of my fish go backwards 😁
then you would have kissing fish!
I thought that very same thing when I saw that one fish going the opposite way for a moment - a little fish with big personality!
Every school should have a Dora 😂
I was thinking of doing that cutting thing she did on the Take Flight quilt to make them a bit off center :D
So many great ideas from all these creative minds is SEW much fun!!
Love it!! This would make a great table runner w just 2 rows. Make the fish go in opposite directions!
Oh, that will be darling!! And perfect for a beach or lake house! :D
Love how the triangles frame the fish..love this ty
love this, I think at least one rebel fish would be fun
So Fun! Can't wait to make one of these beautiful quilts!!!
Sew cute! Thank you for sharing this beautiful fish pattern with us!
I love your little thimble cup. So cute!
So fun! Those are some really awesome tips (love using the crease idea!!!)
Love the way you explain the whole thing. Very beautiful quilt. I'm a beginner but this is certainly in the future for me to do. Thank you, blessings Laura M
This is so cute. I feel like you could do a school of fish swimming across: first up, then side, then down. It would be so cool.
How beautiful to be able to make something like that. My sister is really good at it. Thank you. :)
So so cute. Yes, I was going to say, a rebel fish going the other way would be so cute.
Very cute, think if you used a very pale greeny blue for background it would really look like the ocean.
I love the new look of your set, the thimble cup & felt pressing mat too! What a cute pattern that you've simplified!
I suppose you could also use 4 1/2” squares and set the rows on the diagonal. That would eliminate the need to set each fish on point as a block. This is a great pattern and so fun to make up! I’m doing two of them for my grand nephews.

@@jerrihalf5564 Exactly my thoughts! Great quilt idea. I love the tail.
Amazing tutorial as usual! Thanks Jenny!!!!
Jenny, I saw you on Forbes! Fantastic segment. Congrats!
Omg I’ve been waiting for a fish quilt ! Thank you ❤️❤️
Oh my goodness this is so CUTE!!!!
Thank you Jenny for another great video.
I love it my last name is Fisher. I’m making a quilt for my granddaughter and I think I would do the last block a school of fish. Thank you
How cute will that be!! We hope you share photos with us on social media!
Brilliant as always! Thanks for sharing
My son loves to fish so I'm thinking about making one of these for him.
I think I would like to do it larger fish. Maybe use a 10” layer cake
how do you resize the blocks in order to use a layer cake? I was thinking it would be cute with the larger fish too
That is a great idea! We hope you share photos with us!

Sue Welch I meant paper, pencils and erasers
1bcsurvivor if you use layer cake, you’re essentially just doubling the size of the body of the fish; why not just double the rest of the measurements for the fish block?
Love it. Bought the digital download the other day.
I am actually lost! This is a complicated pattern, and I look forward to the challenge of making it.
It's basically making flying geese, but assembling them differently
I LOVE this quilt.
So cute. I’m making this using scraps.
Thank you so much! I can't wait to try this .. I'll share the picture when done. great tutorial Jenny.
Encantada. Seus trabalhos são maravilhosos. Todos sem exeção. Obrigada por nos passar tantos ensinamentos.
Is this language portuguese? I speak Spanish and guessed. What do the words execao and ensinamentos mean? Simple? and ???
Love this. I think I will do a bowed line on the fins too
That's quite funny Jenny as my married name is Gill so sometimes people say is that as in fish gill ha ha also my name is Jenny also 😂😂😂
Love this fish quilt great for a fisherman
This would be perfect for our cottage up north in Michigan. I just have to make a lap size one. Actually, I just have to make time to make it.😉😁
If you use red, yellow, and orange "fish" but rotate them 90 degrees, you can make trees on a hill. I would recommend using a green background instead of white. It would be a beautiful trees on hills quilt!
oh, that could be really neat! I hope you try it and share your creation with us!
lol a whole different pattern .......ok.......Christmas coming........but I want fish today.....lol
I love the fish quilt jenny you make it look so easy .mine comes out bit wonky
I bet you can have some nice big fish with the layer cake.
You can also make it using a jelly roll for the color.
Such a cute idea! I think the gals have been super busy lately, did you notice the fuzzy lint on her needle shaft? First time I’ve seen that. I can’t wait to see what projects they have been working on.
Jenny and her team have been VERY busy, we can't wait to show you what they've been up to!
Great instruction! Thank you.
I hate it when the fabrics recommended are “sold out forever”😝
You make excellant videos! I finished a throw 48x55 before it has been quilted. 5 blocks wide 6 blocks long.
It turned out great.. I just had to start it before I received my pattern and did complete the top thanks to your excellant tutorial.did not see how to add a photo or I would have.
Someone told me to keep a table fork in my sewing room to hold small pieces while ironing. Works great
👍👍 Millions of likes 👍👍
I saw a quilt similar to this hanging high on the wall in a small interior mall at the Ketchikan waterfront. I could never figure out the cutting/sewing pattern. Thanks!
Beautiful border fabric.
I'm going to mix the fish and cat blocks. But we need a mouse block now to go along with them :-)
Neko Tengu That sounds super cute! ❤️
That would be really cute!
Great idea! That will make such a fun quilt with lots of character!
I was thinking the same thing -- want to make a lap pad for my sister who's cat loves to cuddle!
One fish two fish red fish blue fish! A Dr. Seuss baby quilt! I love the fabric line you're using, it's so bright and colorful. I have an off the wall question for you, what are the dimensions of the table you're working on? My husband is going to build one for me and yours seems the perfect size.
Keep in mind that Jenny's table was created just for her because she is 6ft tall, but the dimensions of her table are 41"x77". I hope this helps! :)
Missouri Star Quilt Company Thank you! I should have been more specific by asking what the surface dimensions are, not the height. Sorry about that. I just don’t have a big enough surface area to work on and sometimes it’s a struggle.

Awesome block
If we cut the layer in half that still is pretty big, we could make it any size, by using scraps for let’s say border.
...one could use a pack of white charm squares and cut both ways, to get the 2 1/2" squares...
GREAT THINKING! That would save quite a bit of time!
D H k
Adorable....Thanks Jenny
Love it! Thank you
I made this, so cute!! My son would like me to put a big fish into the quilt. How would I measure to add an a big fish along with the little guys?
Cute! I'll have to make this into a throw
you could add a parie point to the middle seam to make a moveable fin fun for kids and baby's and the elderly
So Cute Jenny!
I think that if you cathedral window the fins it would be super cute
So dang cute!
Lindo amei parabéns!!!!
One fish two fish red fish blue fish. I’m sure Dr Seuss approves!!
Would be perfect for the cottage, made lap size.
THANK YOU. RADIANT.LIKE💝💝💝💝💝👍👍👍👍👍👍😃🌷

I totally love Jenny new tutorial video on Summer School , I have a question that I’m not sure which On is which, I snap two pictures, one says1 3/4 background fabric and Jenny says 2 3/4 background fabric, may I ask which one is right?
Kiki Walker the 2 3/4 yards looks like it’s for the backing
Jenny meant to say 1.75 for the background fabric! Thank you so much for clarifying!
Can you tell us about the new ironing pad?
Jenny, seems you got a little verklempt when talking about the quilt you made for your son attending college in Hawaii. 😥 As always, thanks for the simple steps, making this fish block is gonna be fun!
