Derek Cornelius has impressed me a lot. He's giving me Jay DeMerit vibes, just holding his own in an underrated and overperforming defense. Canada has been so fun to watch in the last couple of years. As a South American, I see that the USMNT focused much more on the technical and aesthetic part of the game, which is important when it comes to offering a sporting spectacle and that allows you to compete fairly well against certain rivals, but Canada more than focusing on the aesthetics of the game, he added the most important thing to have in highly competitive soccer... "PASSION", is what allows him to gain mental strength and give 101% of himself and leave life on the field and that allows you to match yourself against a superior rival and give them a fight... basically "it's the South American style", if you manage to grow based on it, you can not only reach important tournaments but it will also give your soccer an IDENTITY, something that for Americans still find it unknown.

How that wasn't a yellow is beyond idiotic on the ref part, but the whole game it really felt the ref were doing everything possible to give Venezuela the advantage. Apples and Oranges - one is a game of mercenaries who do not actually represent the city they play for - the other is citizens representing their home country.
In professional sports that is not the case - there was one Canadian on the roster of the Raptors when they won the league championship and only one Canadian on the Blue Jays when they won back-to-back World Series. As for hockey - of all the cups won in the past 30 years by American-based teams not one had more than 6 American born players - the teams were made up almost entirely by Canadian and European players.
When the Buffalo Sabres went to the Finals against Dallas (where an illegal goal won the Cup), Buffalo had more Canadian players than any other team in the league. I believe that might also have been the case for Anaheim when they won the Cup.
International championships like the World Cup, the Euro, and COPA are the only times that players from a single country play for a team.

It will be a great game. Love your fair analysis. I think if Canada can learn to finish, there could be two early goals by them courtesy Shaffelburg and David. If they don't score early, it will be very tough against the very skilled Argentina. I expect a fair game, with nobody faking injuries and waiting for the ref to call. They will let them play. Lay on the ground waiting for a whistle, and you will be out of the play and hurt your team. To clarify, "play on" will be the watchword...... I predict no red cards and I request no crying about the refereeing please, LOL. Two fine teams and whoever wins, I expect very classy sportsmanship from both sides. It is an honour for us Canucks to have this chance and it has all been a great learning experience. Thank you to our fine American friends for hosting!

I know it’s a MASSIVE longshot, but Canada winning the Copa América would be seismic for CONCACAF, CONMEBOL, and Canada itself.
USA and Mexico will have to watch Canada make history greater than either of them have ever managed.
CONMEBOL will be able to look down on everyone in CONCACAF except Canada.
And Canada itself will have to look at soccer as its principal alternative sport.

The reason why Conmebol does not consider extra time in the quarterfinal and semifinal matches is to prevent a team from having to play more minutes and therefore suffer greater physical wear and tear, with the exception of the final, which will have time. extra in case of a tie in the 90 minutes. An example of how this can happen was in the 2011 Copa América with Paraguay as finalists with 2 overtimes and penalties included. The other example is Croatia in the 2018 World Cup, being a finalist having played 90 more minutes in 3 games, reaching the final with greater wear and tear since there is very little rest time between games.

As a Canadian I'm happy to be here and a part of me loves to see us as the last CONCACAF team standing. But the refereeing against other North American teams has been brutal. It's like these South American refs silently agreed this tournament should be for the South Americans as it has been historically. It has felt completely biased and corrupt. USA vs Uruguay was another glaring example.
