    Hi Jayda and Mr Institches how are you both. I've been watching your channel for a while now but never picked up a crochet hook until today, I've been crocheting the Christmas tree ornament and it's true I can't stop making them lol. I'm going to try the little sweater next because it's soooo cute. I love your show so keep up the fantastic work you do, all the best love from Joan. X

    I really want to make one of these when I finish my other unfinished projects. I guess terminology is different in Canada. In the US, selvage is the finished edges of the fabric on the bolt. What you are referring to as selvage is called seam allowance here. Either way, your instructions are very clear! Thanks so much!

      Thanks, Carole. I am easily confused but Jayda seldom confuses me. She did this time! "Seam allowance" made sense to me.

      @JaydaInStitches  Год назад

      Hi Carole, yes, seam allowance is the other terminology for it! I grew up calling it both LOL

    Thank you so much for this video. I was trying to find info on how to attach fabric to a strap AND exactly where to place it on the bag itself. I really like how you put in under the bag lining and how you reinforced the straps to the bag. Very helpful!

    Beautiful bag and lining! How do you manage to sew without a thimble? Doesn't your finger hurt or get pricked? I was suffering while watching you!
    Also, I imagine you will add some sort of closure, maybe later? I have been robbed in the bus while holding a non-closing bag, and since then I've been pestering everyone I know not to forget a way to secure your belongings.

    • @JaydaInStitches
      @JaydaInStitches  Год назад

      I find thimbles often get in my way more than they help me. I don't think I owned a thimble until I had been hand sewing for quite a while, so I got used to the odd prick 😂 You can certainly add a closure (button, snap, ties, etc) if you like, especially if you're concerned about someone sticking their hand in where it doesn't belong! In your case, I would like to install a pair of snapping jaws!!

    Every time I try and sew a lining in my bag with my sewing machine I mess it up. Not only that, I can see the thread through it and I end up ruining the bag. I would love to see how you sew the fabric in by hand or by machine.

    • @JaydaInStitches
      @JaydaInStitches  Год назад

      Hi! I choose to hand sew in this lining (as seen in the video) because I didn't want the stitching showing through to the other side. But if you're going to use a sewing machine, you may have to loosen up your machine tension and go really slowly (depending on the yarn).

    I have to admit that your Hex granny bag and lining are honestly the FIRST crochet bag that I really, really like enough to make. How you came up w the lining pattern etc, was outstanding. So thank you many, many times over for not only this bag, but for all your time and patience, along w the hubs and all his time and work. You 2 are an absolute joy to watch and listen to. Sends love ♥️♥️ and 🤗 🤗 from Anchorage Alaska ❄️❄️☃️☃️..yarn 🧶🧶🧶🧶 forever lol

    Did you leave the top opened? Or did you create something to close the opening? Any ideas on this?

    • @JaydaInStitches
      @JaydaInStitches  10 месяцев назад

      Hi! I left my bag open, but if you want a simple closure you can use a button and a crocheted toggle (basically a chained loop on one side of the top opening that fits around a button on the opposite side). This is quick and simple. You can also use an entire other Hexagon, attach it along one edge ONLY to one side and have it flap over the opening and button down on the front 😊

    It is selvage, not salvage. Originally "self-edge". Maybe it's just the Canadian pronunciation. LOL

    Hi ! I watched this but missed the live version. I Cannot complain as had a great massage.
    I have a few Questions.
    Could you use denim(old jeans) for this and crochet it together. (I have crocheted before into denim with a tiny metal hook.)
    Also where do you get those clips? I live in Winnipeg so no Joannes.

    • @JaydaInStitches
      @JaydaInStitches  Год назад

      Hi Crocus! It was just a live chat, but a pre-recorded video, so you didn't miss much 😁 I love Denim, but it frays, so if you're going to use denim you'll want to finish your seam edges. You don't have to crochet into the denim to join it to the purse either you can just sew it like I did, but you might find it helpful to iron the folds down before you sew it into place to help keep it under control 😊

    So I just made a crochet bag with squares and the strap is also the sides/bottom of the bag itself. Would following this same basic idea work for that bag too? The "basket" is 10x10 inches front/back and the strap is 2 inches wide

    • @JaydaInStitches
      @JaydaInStitches  Год назад +1

      Hi Samantha, absolutely. I'd make the bag lining and the strap lining separate, attach the strap lining first, then the bag lining and sew the bag lining to the strap lining as I worked my way around 💗
