It might not be as widly anticipated as something like GTAVI, but it absolutely has a similar hype, since we've been waiting for it since, 2007 (or 2019, depends on how you look at it).
There's still a chance that it will be axed, this is valve remember all it takes is a few of the team to get bored and it will cease to exist. This has happened like 3 times before Alyx actually got created. The worst thing to come from this is a lot of powerful tools ready for use for source 2 which should hopefully make development of CS2 and Deadlock much smoother and hopefully released to the community for modding. the best is HL3. Either way pretty good
I've been watching a lot of videos about Valve lately. And if there's one thing I can summarize from all of the videos, it's that Valve, even in the past, always was like a child with ADHD. It always finds something really interesting and invests a lot of time in it, only to abruptly stop because something else has caught its attention. And the thing is, Valve has always cooked. I think we should just let this company do its thing, because whatever they do will probably be something good.

This is valve were talking about, not some minor indie company, not some game company stomped-on by higher executives that destroy the creativity.
They are constantly innovating and this is not the exception. They didn't add loot boxes to csgo, they INVENTED loot boxes. They didn't add "battle passes" to dota, they INVENTED battle passes.
The fact you think this is some overrated mid game just speaks mass volumes that you don't know what you have in front of you.
And I'd rather have them support development on this game than in some 2008 game made in windows 7, AND windows xp, where you can't alt tab without your entire pc freezing.

There are entire games I've loved that I would sacrifice at the alter of a dark god for a satisfying Half-Life 3. I've watched and waited on Half-Life 3 longer than many of the people watching this channel have been *alive*. I adore TF2. I play it. But I can wait - it'll still run. It'll still be there. Haven't played tf2 in a few months but from what i've heard the bots have been for the most part dealt with for n o w right? If their at least meeting the bare minimum for a old game that still makes them a bunch of revenue I think all is good. I think that's what most people issue was is that yeah its a 17 yr old game we don't expect a big update anymore, but the game should at least be playable still lol.

Let's just hope HL3 doesn't end up in a Duke Nukem Forever Situation, because HL3 is gonna have the hardest, near impossible expectation to uphold after nearly 2 decades of wait. lt is also speculating to be THE Game of the Year or even one of the biggest games of the decade, up there with GTA6. It'll be THE game that'll truly show if Valve still has it when it comes to revolutionizing the gaming industry.

Bro, to put it into perspective, the last main-line entry in half life came as the episodic format 17 years ago. People who were born shortly after its release will soon have voting rights. Back when it came, Bloom was being touted as a cinematic feature along with the infamous piss filter that swamped the 6th generation of gaming consoles, ps3 was lacking behind xbox 360 and Cds and DVD player came with laptop (crazy i know). Meme wasn't a thing and trans was a genre of music. If Valve finally feels that they are ready to go all in with half life 3, that has to have some major push behind. People seem to forget that at the time of its release, half life 2 had the most advanced graphics and physics along with a fun gameplay loop and story. It was the complete package.

I Think that Valve is going to make Half-Life 3 one of the best looking and it will give the best experience just because Half-Life series is the best game that Gabe Newell ever made and all members of valve that are working on new HL, probably played previous versions of HL, so I think they are going to work really hard on this particular project as it is Gabe’s favourite

my personal theory for Half-Life 3 story is its going to have something to do with time travel because G-Man fucks with the timeline and removes Alyx from it, if you remember when Gordon and Alyx teleport from Nova Prospect they invented the slow teleport, I don't think it's too big of a leap to say that Dr Kleiner/other resistant scientists research the slow teleport and figure out how to do time travel

What?? -- Dota 2 has had an insane amount of content updates in the last few months some of which changed how the game played substantially. CS2 is getting weekly tweaks, updates and fixes. TF2 received 3 updates in August and had a big content drop in July. Even L4D2 received updates throughout July. This is all while having way less staff than most large game development/publishing companies and they're still working on 2 new games and Steam as a platform. How is that abandoning a player base?? They're doing more than most other game developers/publishers do.

Apparently, Valve tried that with community updates in TF2. It ended up being more of a mess because of drama.
The idea sounds good on paper, but it's just best to hire people and pay them to maintain the game.

Honestly, i am very much hoping to see time jumps in HL3. jumping between different events in the HL timeline, like back to black mesa, and then c17 and back to xen, back to c17, forward to the borealis snap back to aperature labs during the cave johnson period, etc. it could absolutely amazing to link both series AND bring J.K. Simmons back in
personally I hate when sequels rely too much on nostalgia like that. if it has to include a time travel gimmick use it early to get new players up to speed and then move on. I don't want to spend an entire NEW game going "oh I remember this! I remember that! good times!" that's filler.

a vr game took 4 years for 16 hours, 4 hours of gameplay per year FOR VR. its probably much higher for a non-vr game so lets say 6 hours of gameplay for every year of development, if HLX reales in 2025 then we'll have around 24-30 hours of gameplay hopefully

It’s just crazy that it’s finally happening. Man, I’ve waited my whole life for this.
There are only 2 developers for me personally that have a good enough track record of new releases to genuinely be excited about a new game from them.
Those are Valve and Rockstar, they usually don't disappoint (excluding the hiccup known as Artifact)
I actually was really really hoping Half-Life 3 would be VR and would be the start of a new era of gaming in VR, similar to HL1 on PC. I could see Valve doing something just as innovative as HL1 but on the VR, because honestly, Half-Life: Alyx was amazing and incredibly impressive!
Ultimately, still glad we’re getting an HL3.
The problem with that is VR setups are still so far out of a normal consumers budget not to mention the dedicated home space and computer specs you need and gear. It's just not feasible to 80-90% of gamers.... yet.

Is this where we are? Expressing disappointment because they stopped focusing on their old titles to develop a new one? Is that not what we’ve wanted for years regarding HL3?
Valve inovated with VR with HLA so going back to flat screen its taking massive steps back.
HL3 has to be something familiar, but also very new. Valve have a history of breaking ground in new technology. I want to see some of that. New ways of delivering compelling narrative in the same way that they did with HL2. So much new tech went into that. The physics, animations, voice and facial animation systems, lighting. Source 2 looks great, but does it really break any new ground yet? I'd say it's hard to do now as the AAA stuff is pretty much all the same and pushing computers to their limits already. Whatever happens, HL3 needs to be a big bang, and no matter what it looks like I just want to get more of the story and the atmosphere that was so dense in HL2.

my problem with going off of half like a's ending is that it'd throw hl2's ending, specifically the cliffhanger that was for hl2 ep3, with eli dead and alex present and upset (im not up to dead on if it was rettconned or not nor am i spoiled in hl a's story having only just gotten vr)
They have many ways to start a sequel now. If they changed the ending im sure they have a new creative idea for the sequel. If that stops a creative block and allows them to create Half-Life content again, I'm all for it
If Half Life 3 comes out, valve will break their fear of the number 3 and there would be no point in keeping games at number 2 for decades.
Passing any of tf2's numbers is a big "whatever" honestly. 70% of our current players are item farm idling bots, and the same is said for the all time peak.

Unpopular opinion: I'd rather HLX/HL3 was the VR game to go with their next VR-headset than just a regular old pancake-game; or at the very least a hybrid that was made for pancake but could also work in VR. I don't care if VR is niche atm compared to desktop gaming, what they achieved with HL:Alyx put all prior HL-games to shame in the narrative impact department; people absolutely broke themselves on the ending in a way I rarely see in video games, if at all, literally screaming at the screen, standing there dumbfounded or bawling their eyes out. We need more of that sh*t alright.

"I'm fortunate enough to have ample space aka an entire empty room in my home and a surplus of money to blow on acquiring tech that is exorbitantly expensive to 90% of gamers so this highly anticipated if not the most anticipated game of all time. Can only be played by the very wealthy and fortunate. Genius business strategy. And you couldn't hybridize it for both because either the VR would suffer having to be reigned in so KBM players could do similar things. Or KBM players get completely jipped and can't do any of the cool stuff a VR player could. A VR player can play normally. But a normal player cannot play in VR. Next time work on your L takes kay?
I love TF2 as much as the next guy; I'd say it has shaped the 2000-2010s Internet more than any other media has at the time, but the game has been nearly alive for 17 years now. Valve shifting their focus to other projects is something multiple people have been wishing for decades. VALVe shouldn't shutdown TF2, as long as it's in a playable state, secure servers (refer to modern warfare RAT exploits on servers), and allows community integration and involvement. TF2 will never die.
While VALVe has shown their own share of issues and problems, they're one of the few AAA companies remaining in the game market to still innovate and bring something new to the table, both hardware and software. It's best to let VALVe work at their own pace and hope for them to actually finish the game before dropping it.
Tbh i want episode 3 or at least smth to finally give us the conclusion of half life 2. I'd love if they keep with the idea of them only doing half life 3 if they do a huge story switch.

I am fine with them ignoring Team Fortress 2 since it's almost 17 years old, and as long as they get rid of the bots I don't think the community should complain that much, and I love Team Fortress 2 don't get me wrong
