    OK Lithium batteries are beyond my budget, but I want to thank Paul and Dan online for coming to my rescue in the Vic High Country one night last Nov. I was showing the region off to a couple of friends from Switzerland. It rained all the last Friday afternoon as we were heading back out towards Mt Bulla when I tried and failed to get up a short steep, wet and rutted section just before the end of the King Billy Track. I slid back down and ended up axle deep in mud. When it got dark and I finally realised I had no hope of getting out without help (we were winch-less), we walked the last 1km up to the junction with Brookes Rd and Bluff Track, hoping to get a signal to call some mates. We saw Paul and Dan camping just off the road, mid meal under their awning to escape the still-pouring rain. When we told them our troubles, they immediately packed up their dinner, transferred a pile of gear from one of their vehicles to the other to make rooms for us, and we all headed back down to our Cruiser. With their (clearly extensive) recovery know-how and a fantastically equipped Hilux wagon, they had us out of the mud and up the rise onto solid track in no time. Those guys saved us from a very uncomfortable night in the Cruiser and who-knows-what hassle getting someone to come up and pull us out next day. Feel free to ridicule me for being up there in a single vehicle, not having a winch, trusting the forecast for no rain, etc, but I'm only an occasional participant in this fantastic pastime😞. Whatever. What I want to say is these two guys were fantastic, and if their lithium batteries are only half as good as their characters, they'll be bloody good batteries. Thanks again Paul and Dan.

      Thanks David, glad to see you made it back home safely. And nice to see an older 100 series still rolling around those mountains. It was very wet that next morning there were more vehicles stuck in the same location as you - so that should make you feel better 😉

    Big thumbs up for dcs batteries.(Paul)
    Been using under the bonnet for over 2 years and now have 2x200amp in the caravan.
    Having lithium under the bonnet without the need for dc-dc chargers allowing super fast charge rates and simplifying the whole system is the most significant 12v advancement in 4x4s for a long time.
    Good work guys! Watch everyone else follow suit.

      Thank you for the feedback 👍
      Not only 4x4s the same system applies for the marine market from little fishing boats to 50ft+ yachts. Combined house & cranking without all the other unnecessary equipment.

    Hi great work you guys and gals are doing at DCS, just one question in relation to what happens to the alternator if the BMS in the lithium's shut the batteries down if disconnecting the load from the alternator? would this not burn out the alternators diodes? what protections are in place for this occurring?

    • @deepcyclesystems
      @deepcyclesystems  Год назад +1

      Great questions.
      The batteries can never be subject to a condition where the BMS would need to be shutting the batteries down, under such a scenario you would not only be risking potential damage to an alternator but you are risking damaging the batteries.
      Our Hybrid batteries have a massive power band and support 3000W inverters and winches so you don't have to ever worry about it.

    Whats the minimum charging voltage from the alternator? My Prado gets as low as 13.5V from the alternator. Will this get a dual system to 100%? Also, will an underbonnet battery last as long as one NOT underbonnet. I know you warrant them for 3 years under bonnet, but that's not the question.

      More info on smart alternator voltages here: www.deepcyclesystems.com.au/faq/#what-soc-do-modern-smart-alternators
      Rule of thumb you'll half the service life of any battery chemistry in a high temp environment. Prado's run cool engine bays so with our proven long life cylindrical cell chemistry your laughing.

    How do these hybrid 4x4 batteries compare to regular RV & Marine DCS lithium units for stability, usability and reliability in these harsh touring environments and high under-bonnet temperatures? Will they be up to the task and provide the same level of expected confidence?

    • @deepcyclesystems
      @deepcyclesystems  3 года назад +3

      Great questions Brett - we have spent alot of time developing these 4WD hybrids and have packaged them with alot more technology to do exactly that make them more robust in harsh environments, more stability, more reliability with additional hardware and firmware revisions. Usability has also improved with more accurate parallel data and longer range from the Bluetooth chips. Especially optimised for high temperature environments.
      They also feature an additional metal safety cage so that if the vehicle is ever involved in a frontal collision the cage will contain the cell pack within its structure.
      These are ultimately more robust than our Marine / RV range of batteries, but this technology will move into our other battery range over time to further widen the gap between DCS and the competition.

      @@deepcyclesystems great to know the hybrid batteries are designed for the rigours of touring life. Ive the twin 100Ahr in my heavily modified touring vehicle, should i be wishing I'd held off these couple of months for these hybrid units especially given the similar price point of the 100Ahr and 90Ahr.
      Thanks for taking the time to reply.

    Okay i have the twin 90’s installed, best batteries i have had for my 2012 Pajero. Haven’t had to hook up with the solar system yet, fridge makes ice all night for the refreshments. These were recommended to me by a work friend, that has one of your off grid home power systems. I wish i had these batteries earlier as would of saved me having to replace those lead acid ones every year. Keep up the fine work getting them out there. Very impressed!

      Yes can run a FET alternator splitter if either your runnig a non smart alternator OR at least 370W+ solar.
      Otherwise it won't work on the 2.8L Toyota engines.

      the capacity of the batteries doesn't matter, if you want to run a FET alternator splitter you need to consider the above guidelines.

    What about the vehicle's BMS?
    Like my new Everest, that have the current sensor on the negative terminal.
    Does the vehicle BMS need to be s/w altered?
    Can i use my lithium jump starter unit to jump start the car?

    • @deepcyclesystems
      @deepcyclesystems  2 года назад +1

      There's no room in the Everest engine bays for an auxiliary battery tray, so no way to run our Hybrid DBS in this vehicle.
      Everything stays as factory, doesn't matter if it's smart or fix voltage regulated alternators.
      Yes you can still use a jump starter pack if ever needed. But our batteries are big jump starters, so just get a little charge back into and then crank the engine over.

    Great Vid. Does the direct alternator charging charge the batteries to 100% or is the a loss of capacity due to the alternator charging?

    • @deepcyclesystems
      @deepcyclesystems  2 года назад

      www.deepcyclesystems.com.au/faq/#what-soc-do-modern-smart-alternators
      Most smart alternators typically bring the batteries back to around 80%SOC. That's why the system has an integrated 80V/20A MPPT charger so you can run a fixed panel to get them back to 100% if you actually needed that extra power.

    Great Video and information , what inverter did you use and how was it connected if you have to bypass the system . I don't understand this stuff very well so a quick video on the subject would be great . Also could you plug your caravan lead into the inverter , similar to Dash Offroad. thanks

    • @deepcyclesystems
      @deepcyclesystems  3 года назад +2

      Running the DCS 12V 3000W inverter, these will be back in stock again around June..
      The low voltage cut out switch that reserves 20% for engine starting is simply bypassed in the video so that we could drain the last 20%.
      Yes you can run a lead anywhere and power whatever you needed off the inverter in the vehicle e.g. power your home during an outage.

      The smart battery protects are for your small loads, such a refrigerators, lighting, travel buddies, amplifiers, small inverters under 300W, USB chargers etc... these are wired to the output post on the SBPs so that they are protected.
      Larger loads like 2000/3000W inverters, winches, compressors are wired to the SBP's input post and so are connected directly to the batteries.

      Maybe high end but half the price of RV panels.
      Solar blankets are a minefield, most come with a regulator so just use it.
      Utilise our regulator for fixed panels..

    Very very nice system. Thanks for the 0% recovery test. I have good knowledge of batteries and 12v stuff for out back traveling and that is a new one for me. That is also a great safety/recovery feature. I love the whole concept you have there. Are they two separate batteries and what happens if one fails?
    Interesting point about the battery temps up to 76 deg. As you said your batteries will do those types of temps but at a life span cost. This is a very good and informative video thank you.
    PS. I do run one of your 75ah batteries in my caravan and runs the inverter and coffee machine at 140amp draw very well

    • @deepcyclesystems

    At this timestamp, you show the app being used while cooking. I can't get mine to connect from behind my 4wd, is this an expected issue?
    100 series landcruiser, won't connect unless I walk un next to the rear quartar panel.

    • @deepcyclesystems
      @deepcyclesystems  3 года назад +2

      Line of sight on the hybrids you'll be getting 15m+
      If your trying to transmit through the vehicle you'll have way more interference so you might get range or you might not - you typically need to connect standing by the side and then walk around to the rear of the vehicle.
      Also both batteries are in different positions and one will always have a stronger signal relative to your device, you'll probably work out very quickly which one that is as the strongest signal is displayed at the top of the list. The lower the -dB number the stronger the signal strength.
