      Of course in remembrance to Robbie Robertson, but also I believe, from a style interpretation perspective, he was also playing it as a tribute to Rick Danko.
      Eric is a good man..!

    Love that song. Loved THE BAND. LOVE Eric's version. Eric serves this song really well. And here is Eric at 78 years old performing outstandingly well. For me a true inspiration .

    I watched The Last Waltz as a boy when it was released in Germany on my 10th Birthday 25.11.76. I had started taking classical guitar lessons 2 years prior.My dad took me…and there and then I decided what I wanted to do all my life….be a professional guitar player…..here I am 46 years later, a professional guitar player….

      Don't speak any German, however when I heard this concert simulcast on the radio on Thanksgiving in my home near San Francisco in 1976, I heard something amazing happening, and I knew I needed to be a apart of something like this. I Began taking lessons the next year and I'm still playing all these years later ✌️

    Robbie wrote the song and deserved the credit. Not taking anything away from Rick’s great delivery; Levon’s drumming, Garth or Richard. The magic was the entire band.

      Cmon now. They made this magic together. Without each band member, this song might be floating in space, unheard. They were The Band and not to share the glory and the revenue this music provided, as what happened in the end, is so tragic to me. Especially when the other band members weren’t faring well. They ALL made it happen, each having their signature songs. ❤️

    I’ve been listening to Eric Clapton since the 70’s. My admiration for this great musician grows every day. His songs bring back so many memories of different times, love and loss, happiness and sadness, rockin’ and bluesin’. Many thanks to this wonderful music man.

    Great choice and his voice is pretty suited. Nothing beats Dankos voice and Robbies guitar style and Levons drumming but great tribute and Clapton actually sounds emotional for a change

      Well if you think about it he has had his share of losses lately, his contemporaries people he's grown up with spent his career with, so yeah, I would think you'd be a little bit emotional about this time in his life. It's awfully nice of him to do this song in remembrance of him.🎶

    Eric has told about the time he first heard Big Pink, and how it made him realize he was wasting his talent playing 'kiddie music' as he called it with Cream. Said it changed the whole direction of his career. He always looked up to Robbie and what he did with The Band. ❤

      Sorry to inform you that Eric Clapton never said he played “ Kiddie music “ with Cream !!!! Send me the proof. Cream was a jazz drummer, Jack Bruce a classically trained bassist and the blues guitarist, Clapton! When Clapton played with the Yardbirds before Cream he remarked that “ pop “ music and “ Top of the Pops” wasn’t his thing🎉

      @@alexandercameron1977Hi, I did read that somewhere. I promise you I didn't make it up. 😉 In fact I remember that term specifically: either kiddie music, children's music or words to that effect. And he was hugely influenced by the Band's early albums.

      Andy Fairweather Low. Has been one of EC second player's for many years, especially throughout the 90s and early 2000s.
      Not sure why his current guitarist
      Doyle Bramhall is not with him on this short tour.

    Blackberry Smoke do a faithful version of this..Baby Don't Do You Do It as well. And The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down..The Weight as well, although i think that one is an acoustic performance by Charlie Starr, BBS front guy. And while i'm at it, Charlie does the best It Takes A Train To Laugh I've ever heard. All on YT.
