I was disappointed to not see mass militia being the main force. It is well known that the AI struggles against towers and castles.

I understand your point, which is why I didn’t tower rush or anything, unless I have a huge force its near impossible for me to deal with a group of archers especially in castle age where they are crossbows and such. After all I am only 1300elo on a very good day xD

@@EchoEmpires I think that the moats map was "rigged" in favor of a castle before the shallows, which was just within your "rules". Anyway, there are ways to "cheese" the AI in Dark Age, such as walling it in completely, and walling its resources. That would make it a villager attack more than anything else, though. I think it is possible to "constrict" the AI with a bunch of Dark Age militia too, though. E.g., move militia around in small packs, surrounding the enemy base. Stop builders before they can complete their archery ranges, towers, etc.. Allowing all upgrades except the unit line makes for a nice challenge too. It is not necessarily "cheating". 😁

PS: A few days ago, I used Dark Age Burgundians to defeat the Extreme AI playing Feudal Age Armenians on Arabia. I made really many militia, but also depended on sending villagers forward to wall in all the golds and maybe a couple production buildings. No towers, though. (Obviously not even available in Dark Age.)
It should definitely be possible without walls by using the militia better. One or two militia on defensive stance can easily guard a neutral gold against single villagers.
Human players are very likely able to punish a Burgundian mass drush, as it cannot get started as fast as a Goth drush. Also, the Burgundian Dark Age Feudal eco upgrades are barely on par with the Goth infantry discount, even in the long run. But at least wheelbarrow makes villagers less vulnerable to counter-raids.

That castle was a gamechanger! I think it will be interesting to go with either Goths or Japanese too.

Great game! The Romans were a great choice overall, at first I thought the Goths could be better but the blacksmith upgrades and comitatenses do a lot of work

Thanks a lot! There were a few good civ options. Lots of fun too

@@EchoEmpires I think Burgundians are a candidate too, despite lacking supplies. They can do an extended Dark Age 1TC "boom" with Feudal economy upgrades, allowing you to efficiently amass a lot of pure Dark Age militia.

@@EliasHasle thats a good point! Aside from eco there isn't much of a reason to rush to the next age
