Whoa... now I understand why these pieces of art are so pricey! I came here thinking I could DIY and nooope
All that equipment and expertise wow!! Beautiful and great tutorial!
Thank you! Yeah, there are a lot of components to the process. If you're looking to do this as a little craft/hobby, you don't NEED all of the equipment, but even just the very basics can be pretty pricey.
What did you use for the stake and how did you attach it please?
Pretty! Thank you for the video
Love this thank you!
Awesome idea to turn scrap glass into cash
Love your video and design 🙋♀️👏 what type of cutting system do you use ?
Hey Lefty, great video and good to see another south paw doing glass. How do you like the beetle bits setup. Was thinking about getting a set for my students to use.
Haha hi! I really enjoy the beetle bits system. I haven't been doing a lot of geometric work lately, so I mostly use it for the waffle grid right now, but I do find it helpful to have a stationary straight edge available at all times. 🤷🏼♀️
Thanks for the speedy reply!
Just read the comments and saw is a beetle bits 🤪
What temp do you use to solder to the copper rod? And temp in general for soldering?
Love the craftsmanship, it look beautiful!
Thanks! I solder the seams and rod at 410, and I do edge beading at 360
beautiful planer/garden stake. What kind of glove are you wearing? Does it keep it from getting hurt or burned?
Thank you! It's a heat resistant glove for curling/styling your hair. It lets me pick up the hot glass without getting burned, and makes beading the edges a little safer. It's not "heat-proof" by any means, but it helps a lot.
@@SamanthaAshleyGlass the Art Deco style is so classic and beautiful. I don't see many people doing it. Will you be adding more items to your Etsy soon?
@@kimthatsallyouneedtoknow5684 yes, I'll be updating my shop with new pieces this Saturday!
Where do you get the glass shards/panels that are colored? Do you color them yourself or do you buy the glass already tinted? Where would you suggest looking for them?
Hi! So these are stained glass sheets that I'm working with. I buy the glass this way, and you can find stained glass sheets from a number of sources. Go to Etsy, and type in "stained glass sheets." You can also try online shops such as Delphi Glass, or Anything in Stained Glass.
@@SamanthaAshleyGlass wow thank you. I am writing a book where my main character is an artist and makes sculptures and they are supposed to be making a Pablo Picasso inspired sculpture out of glass pieces and I was curious so I could make it so I have the process for it. I appreciate it hun!
Hola samantha . soy un seguidor de tu canal , me gustaria saber conque tipo de soldador trabajas... Gracias .
..
Hi. I'm sorry, I don't understand.
What is the name and brand of the yellow burnishing tool you use. You make it look so easy but it also looks like your tool smooths the corners nicely. I struggle with my corners and would like to see if that one would help me.
It is such a nice little tool, unfortunately I have no idea what it is. It's a really old tool that my grandpa used for burnishing - I've tried looking for something similar, but I can't find anything. 😭
@@SamanthaAshleyGlass , what a wonderful gift he left you. Not only his stash but you obviously have inherited his gift for stained glass. Thanks for all your videos. They are so helpful.
Lovely piece! Nice way to dress up planters! What did you use for the rod?
Thanks! It's just a copper rod from the hardware store. I believe it's 3mm. You can get them in brass too.
@@SamanthaAshleyGlass the soulder will just stick to the brass or copper?
@@kaylamorris7381 yep! Just need a little flux. Brass usually needs a little extra heat, so you might have to hold your iron on it a little longer.
@@SamanthaAshleyGlass what if I wanted to keep this all silver color, would I then tin the copper/brass rod first? Or can I use a steel rod for the garden stake? Thank you for your help :)
@@victoriajimenez7769 you can do whatever you like! I personally just leave my rods brass or copper when I'm leaving the piece silver. You could paint the rod with an enamel paint, or tin it. I think steel rusts, so you might want to stay away from steel (I'm not an expert on steel 😅)
Where did you ge the metal rod to make the stem of the fliwer
Just from the hardware store. I believe it was a 3mm rod
What do you use for the stake part?
I used a 3mm copper rod. You can find them at most hardware stores. 👍
Where did you buy your burnishing tool?
I wish I had an answer - I only have two and they're wearing away - I need to get more! It was a tool from my grandpa's collection of stained glass equipment.
I was referring to the yellow one that you slide down the sides. Thank you so much for your reply.
Yes, I was also referring to the yellow one. 👍🏻 It's at least 30 years old
what material is the stake?
It's a copper rod. I use copper or brass rods that you can find at the hardware store. I believe these were 3mm diameter.
Do you sell the pattern for this project?
It's funny you ask - I was just looking at this the other day, and thinking I should make a couple more plant stake designs to go with this one, and list them as a collection. So, to answer your question, I don't sell this pattern yet.
