Don't ever change Chris, I have seen many content creators get big (lots of subscribers) and then all of a sudden start apologizing or catering to the complainers or trying not to offend anyone out of fear of "words on a screen". Never back down, never give in, keep being you and worry not for any public approval.
Unmatched is totally a beer and pretzel game! That doesn't make it bad, but it plays fast and generally light and is great to run a bunch of characters tournament style!
Earthborne Rangers is actually one that you might not want to play 2 handed. It was heavily playtested true solo. It also gives you direction, which you may foloow or ignore if you wish.
Evacuation and Djinn are fun solo games. Djinn has an Ai deck - used as a timer. Deck runs out before you clear all Boss Djinn the game ends. Evacuation is a headache but when you get a few games under your belt, it starts to make sense.
I like this style of video, I appreciate your takes I do wish you sold a couple of games and bought a better video camera though :P

You know…I’m not sure if it’s the camera or the computer. When I tried running it at a higher resolution the computer lags and can’t keep up so I’m wondering if it’s that moreso
Life of the Amazonia has been a real surprise to me. I backed it back on ks because it looked good and one of our friend loves animals. Well the game is very very good, much better than expected (and much better than Cascadia, which shares something of, but is worse imho).
there was a local unmatched competition here recently. characters were selected randomly each round for every player. this one dude, he demolished the competition, winning round after round and took home the grand prize. just saying... it's not all down to chance, there's skill involved too.
@ touch it already! Its peak unmatched in my book. They work in both co op and pvp like all unmatched characters. To be honest tho the really good unmatched experience comes from 1v1 and 2v2. The co op is good introduction for people who dont like head to head but sub par to the pvp imo.
Earthborne rangers is the one I’m flip flopping with and you are right the entry fee is super high but I’m a huge fan of sand box games. So I’m still conflicted 😂

I think Earthborne rangers is worth it for solo. They tested it extensively at solo 1 handed, and it plays well solo. I have played solo. Ebr is a campaign but does have decent directions. It is so good!
Deliverance is amazing. one shots with a ton of variability, campaign with scenarios akin to DMD with less randomness, great character building, player powers and abilities. dont miss out on this one.
I don’t think you tried to buy second hand copies of lord of the rings lcg expansions recently. Old core set, sure that’s cheap. Extensions? Some packs go for more than 100$
My biggest argument against your advice for ignoring retail and going crowdfunded is that unless you live in the US, this is always the more expensive option due to shipping. Buying retail brings the price down significantly due to stores mass ordering and receiving better shipping rates. Obviously you could do the same with a group order via crowdfunded, but not everyone really has that option.

The only game here that meets that is Earthborne which with shipping from the campaign would likely be close to even.
Went down the unmatched rabbit hole like you said of getting a bunch all at once. My wife bought just about all of it for Christmas and it’s not for us. We do bad at take that. I’m more of a dice throne guy since dice are completely random so when I get stomped I don’t get annoyed. Unmatched cards feel less random but there can be times where it just feels like you’re drawing dead and getting beat up or worse blocking every damage so the game can sometimes drag. I think it’s a great system just not for us and at some point I’m sure we will just sell the whole collection maybe keeping one box. And I don’t know about this series. I will lose my serious board gamer title if I don’t buy or back at least 2-5 games per month.
The negatives you state for Earthborne Rangers and Daybreak are making them sound more interesting for me. I've thought about LCG in the past, but just sitting there battling a boss every time you play sounds boring to me (hated Gloomhaven JotL). Having more story layers and an "open world" concept sounds intriguing. Daybreak being a harder co-op like pandemic with tableau building thrown in to boot? Yeah, I'm buying that game (checked 3 of my LGS recently and didn't find it at any of them, but when I do I need to figure out how to talk my wife into getting it). OTOH - you are doing a pretty good job of pushing me away from Evacuation.

For daybreak, to be fair you can play it online via Board Game Arena. I won't get the physical copy as the setup and counting of emissions is a hassle instead I will play more in Board Game Arena.
If you are not afraid of culling board game, I see less risk in buying retails as long as you play games within a reasonnable timeline so that you can resale, if you dont like the game, while the hype is still high. Even with a $20 loss, its still worth it to try a game imo. Really small cost per hours at the end of the day

On a small scale basis sure, but disposable income for some is more and some less. I just hate approaching it in general from that perspective though at the same time

I don't agree - Deliverance is an amazing theme skirmish/campaign, game. High quality, minimal dice rolling (only for enemy's actions and tests). Combats are deterministic. Each angels you are playing have 15 talent cards (you will be only using 3 per game), lots of treasure cards (equipment+stats bonuses), prayers cards (event, bonuses, etc), demon's ability (minor and major, not played with them yet). It also has a formidable tension building mechanism, called darkness (similar to Aliens The Deckbuilding game) where negative condition is building up (The key is to control it). It has elements of RPG a bit by leveling up your angels with XP and the them? Freakin'amazing. Definitively my best buy of 2023!

It is painful. I really want to get El Grande, which I love, but has made requires solo to play. It doesn't have solo, and I am tired of trying to come up with solo variants for classics.

Yeah cascadia is a shorter lighter game when I want to play, but life of Amazonia is so good too for a more crunchy experience

Just get Battle of Legends 2, you wont regret that unmatched set. Its insanely fun and mechanically satisfying. And the characters are quite badass.
