Truck rear shocks are so easy to replace and videos like these prove that for those who have never done them. Really not worth paying anyone to do it for you unless you just don’t have the tools.
Used this video as a guide to do the rear shocks on my '06 Ram 1500. Thank you. Instructions were perfect, but having a lift in my driveway would have made it so much easier... The shocks I replaced were the factory shocks with 87,000 miles on them. The bolts were a bear to get off, especially the uppers. Either way, your instructions were right on. Thanks again!
+Harry Buck We're glad the video helped you out. That's a lot of miles for the original equipment! No surprise about the rust though haha Up here in New England, trucks are like rust magnets so we know exactly what that's like. Thanks for watching. For anyone else who might be doing this job, we carry the parts shown in the video on our website. Order from us and we'll cover the shipping. +mopar 2ya Thanks for watching. The cost of a factory replacement Bilsteins compared to ours in the video? If you don't have the funds to get OEM units ours make a great set of replacements! 1A Auto Parts and also mine is a 2wd hemi 5.7. And for the bottom bolts, which way are they supposed to be facing, because mine are facing outward, that's the way they were so I reinstalled them the same way. And besides reading my manual, I did watch your video before going at it. THANKS
I to have a 2010 RAM 1500 any idea what causes the swelling of the lug nuts. I have owned many cars in my life and this is the first one i have had this issue with.
I have an '06. It's caused by the lug nut being constructed of two pieces. It has the actual nut and then a chrome cap over it. Over time with heat and pressure the cap warps and causes the swelling. At least that's my understanding of it. Aftermarket lug nuts get rid of it since most are a one piece design. $20 fix on ebay
I have a 2009 Ram and the dealer advised they could not locate anything but the Chrome clad lug nuts which swell. I located chromed all steel lug nuts on eBay for about $31.00 with free shipping and for about the price the dealer wanted for two of the OEM lug nuts. See LUGNUTGUYS on eBay for your needs. I have used my now for 28 months and multiple tire rotations without a complaint of swelling from the dealer who gladly did the full set replacement while rotating the tires.
Thanks for all the great videos and instructions! What was the reason for not continuing to use Bilstein as a rear shock absorber in this video. I have to change mine here soon and most of the people recommend Bilstein. What's your take on it? Thanks
+Octavian Deac We are primarily an automotive parts distributor, so when we do these videos, we're always installing our own parts into the application. We really just shoot the videos to help people learn how to work on their own cars so they can save a little cash. Bilstein are good, but ours are just as good and at under $60.00 for a pair, coupled with a lifetime warranty, they're the obvious choice in our opinion! We also ship right to your door for free! The ones I took off on my 2nd gen 3/4 ton were 10x worse then the ones you took off lol. Took me about 4 hours altogether to get those bastards off, they were the factory shocks which explains a lot.

I'm confused, Do I really need to remove the front tire and wheel to change the Rear shocks? :-)~

1A Auto Parts doing this job on my 04 dodge ram pick truck next week. Im looking forward to it lol your video is a big help! Thanks
@@1AAuto Are your shocks as good or better than stock ?
+Lou Indorato The parts we offer are manufactured to exact OE specifications. 1aauto.com
Lol. It says rear shocks but tightens front wheel at the end of video
Better check your drawers for tire tracks after lifting that tire back onto the hub. 5:30 LOL
Just cause you do it doesn’t mean he does lmfao 🤣
do you need to have the jack to support the axel so it want fall when you take off the shocks
how about the front shocks
You need jacks to support the truck because you're removing the tire. If you don't remove the tire, it's almost impossible to reach the top bolts.
kinda wondering why someone replaced bilsteins with a no name shock?
+mopar 2ya Thanks for watching. The cost of a factory replacement Bilsteins compared to ours in the video? If you don't have the funds to get OEM units ours make a great set of replacements! 1A Auto Parts factory shocks are Sachs not Bilstein. but Bilstein have lifetime warranty. Sorry to nitpic.
Regardless of why . It's an instructional video. Thank you.
LoL, I was just thinking the same thing. Bilsteins never out, I feel sorry for the poor guy who paid for this replacement.
mopar 2ya haha no label or anything. One of those people who pay for repairs but don’t know what they’re getting.
Did mine on my 06 Ram 1500 from the flat of my back on a creeper. Would’ve been easier if I had removed the spare tire. Those top bolts were a pain.
Brush the threads with a wire brush. The nuts will come off alot easier.
Another great video as always!
How about a video for the 2wd 3rd gen front? Nobody shows 2wd repairs on RUclips.
That was easy thanks.
Boy you did it so simple and easy.
I had to use a 13/16 socket & wrench. I did mine last night on 2004 Dodge Ram 1500.
+Joe Joe Thank you for the tip! We appreciate all information which will assist other viewers complete the job. 1aauto.com

Why is he removing the front wheel, before removing the rear shock?
Andrew S huh? He didn't
+Andrew S It looks as though a clip form another video may have been edited in by mistake. Thank you for watching
Scott, At 0:56 you can see the front bumper and soon after that the front suspension.
ha yup!!
You can tell it's a Dodge Ram by the rear differential pinion oil leak. They all leak like cheap Italian cars. Fiat
How long was the extension that you used?

GeeksGuideTo it's a steel lug nut with a aluminum cover so the steel rusts and that's what makes them swell

Thanks guys
Using a Rod to Guide your bolts in prior to inserting will save you possibly damaging your threads
Is it the same for an 09 Ram ?
+Lou Indorato This will be the same procedure for the 2009 as long it is not a mega cab.
Does it raze the back up any
Thanks for all the great videos and instructions!

Bilsteins are some of the best shocks out there . Beware of cheaply priced shocks .
what brand and model of shocks are the ones from 1A Auto?
+007jhagga Thanks for watching! We have these parts listed on our website if you want to check out the details. www.1aauto.com/*/i/1ASSP00329?ARUclips&Adescription&Avideodesc&COMXTsA
Why non megacab? And can I do this using Jack's??
The 09 Ram top bolt isn't as easy to get at with a wrench. Can you do a video on an 09 please
I have an 09 ram 1500 too. Before I do these what do you mean it's harder? I'll prolly check it out tomorrow morning
I'm wondering why you would have to take the wheel off for this other than filming ?
+bhwystar Taking the wheel off makes this repair a lot easier.
Good info, but the title should be 02-08 Rams. The 09-10 1500 has coil springs on the rear and is a different procedure.
How do I replace coils on a Dodge Ram D50 1988
*I can’t reach the back upper shock bolt*
great video but why does it look like hes taking off the front tires?
Do you have to remove the tires??
okay, thanks a lot!
Mauricio De Santiago
Wait you took off the rear and ended with the front end on passenger that's a different shock mount
Great video but why take the front wheel off
Why does it matter if it’s for a mega cab or not?
good vid...that said, should be using spray lube. :)
It looks like you took the wheel wells out?
+Saul Espinoza about 40,000 miles or so Yes but for a different reason. You don't need to remove the wheel wells to do this install
do put the jack stands on the frame or axel
+Kent Crites Thank you for checking us out. You may place the jack stands on the frame. 1aauto.com
So why was the wheel taken off?
+Eric Rissler This makes for easier access to replace the shock absorbers. 1aauto.com
Yea this wouldn't have worked for my 2009 ram. The inside upper nut was a B. Had to cut a 13/16 wrench down to fit it up there
5:32 nice queef
Uhmm, whats with removing the front tire tho??
Reusing clips to save time. Method is the same lol
Why are you showing putting the front wheel back on for rear shocks.....other than that great video
When the 1aauto video is longer than two minutes and you live in the rust belt: 😓
Replaces the rear shock but removes and replaces the front tire.
is it possible without a lift?
Philip Barringer yes
No
Jack n stands work
Did mine without jacking the truck up or taking off the wheels. That sucked 😂
Sorry, not applicable to 4th Gen (2009++)
Im not looking forward to this...im sure nuts wont come off without cutting them off...hsd to cut front ones off....winters and salt destroy threads
Canada 🇨🇦
Dont need to lift the truck i changed my 4 shocks truck on the ground lmao its a shock not a strut
+Norm’s STI We appreciate the feedback. Sometimes there are multiple ways to accomplish the same repair.
The ones I took off on my 2nd gen 3/4 ton were 10x worse then the ones you took off lol. Took me about 4 hours altogether to get those bastards off, they were the factory shocks which explains a lot.
Thanks for checking us out. 1aauto.com +Bailey Miller
stop using lifts in your tutorials
Wow, this video is horrible! 4 of 6 minutes is lug nuts haha. Wasted life
