    Fished out my old binder after watching this today. 7/8 quad so balance is quite similar to yours. I was surprised by how much it helped with pushing around, I think I was losing so much energy from trying to combat balance as well as hand function and pushing, now all I have to think about is the latter two. Thanks for this tip Brian!!

    I use this binder and love it. I'm a C6 Quad and started having ALOT of problems with dizziness because of low blood pressure. Wearing this helped with being dizzy and it gives some stability in my trunk that helps me to sit up straighter. It flattens my stomach a bit but its doesn't get rid of a 'quad belly'.

    Thank you for making this! everything you said makes perfect sense and I have been trying to explain to my PTs & OTs & docs that I KNOW my newfound thoracic and cervical spine pain is because I have no strength in the core muscles anymore so I knew my neck and other accessory muscles were kicking in extra to try to help stabilize my spine and hold me upright. It's gotten so bad that I literally have spent my days lying on the floor for the last year. None of my healthcare team seemed to believe me when I asserted that i cannot hold myself upright for very long at all, and how fatigued I get so easily and quickly, whenever I try! I reported all the things- inability to deep cough, deep breathe, my speaking and voice was weakening, and everyone kept trying to treat my painful neck and thoracic spine as separate from the T12 level paralysis. It has been even hard to find accounts of other paraplegic, quadriplegic, or hemiplegic people documenting this specific problem from the loss of their core skeletal muscles' function. I continued to wonder how is it possible that even quadriplegics/tetraplegics seem to have no problem being seated in their wheelchair all day and functioning, while I have a T12 spinal cord injury and even some limited feeling & ability in my legs and yet I still cannot hold my own torso and head weight up for more than a few minutes at a time! I will bust out my old binders and pay attention as I attempt to hold myself upright today. Thanks again 👍

    I just have to say I thoroughly enjoy your videos. As someone who has lost their ability to walk from a rare muscular illness, your videos have made me feel like I can have the independence I used to have. You said you don’t have the slim 25 year old body you used to have but you seem to get around really well.

    So I just got one of these and my first impression is I love it. I really feel more stable and feel like I'm sitting up straighter. It will take a bit of getting used to, especially trying to bend over and pick things up but overall I'm really liking it so far. Thanks for the video and suggestion.

      Does it roll up on you, throughout the day? I'm looking for one, that will stay in place. While I'm transferring and things like that. All the ones I've ever used would roll up, half way through the day, or would start riding up.

    • @DerickZ28
      @DerickZ28 6 лет назад

      Sorry never saw your reply. It doesn't roll up but it does scoot up a bit. It pulls back down in place pretty easy. Only time it slides up really is if I'm bending or transferring a lot. I've enjoyed having the one I got, same as in the video, but after about 6 months or really about two months ago so 4 months, it's gotten pretty worn out.

    the abdominal binder is the one thing I kept using.. Now I use a "Gold's Gym 8 wide waist trimmer." I use two because one does not give enough support. I got them for $4.97 each at Walmart. They last a few months. I have a velcro type binder but never used it. I used the custom made corset type for years. But after my last one wore out I couldn't get a good replacement so switched to the waist trimmers.

    (1) You still look hot, never mind that you're not the "slim 25 year old." (2) Ribbed for your convenience. Hehehe. (3) You looked like you were faking it because of your really good upper body strength - I have to remind myself that you're really a higher level paraplegic because of how agile you've taught yourself to be.

    • @james64ibm
      @james64ibm 6 лет назад

      In some of the videos it actually looks like you are using your core and upper legs, simply because I'm a fit 28-year old and I couldn't do these things you do with my arms alone. As far as I'm concerned, there is some more magic beyond the ab binder ;)

    Could you do a video or direct me to a video that explains the difference between incomplete and complete paraplegic and the difference between paraplegic and quadriplegic

    • @grdrgn2886
      @grdrgn2886 6 лет назад

      Amy Elise incomplete means the spinal cord has been injured but is still intact. A complete spinal cord injury means the spinal cord was severed in two. A para has lost function of legs. A quad has had an injury affecting arms and legs.

    • @Danette1959
      @Danette1959 5 лет назад

      Amy to to what the prior person said, I studied anatomy & physiology, a quad has a Cervical spine injury, so use of arms & hands, and legs are affected because of the nerves that branch from the C spine spinal cord go to those areas. The paraplegics' injury usually Thoracic spine & lumbar spine affects the chest down, but not the arms & hands, because again of the nerves branching goes to the lower parts of the body. Hope this helps.

    • @ParalyzedLiving
      @ParalyzedLiving  7 лет назад +6

      I've tried...no great advice other than doing upper body cardio and still that doesn't really help with the gut. My best advise is to get one of these to disguise it because I haven't found a way to get rid of it altogether. You don't have abs so it will always be an issue. Doesn't mean you are fat...your guts just hang out since the muscle isn't there anymore.

    Does it make noise?? The Velcro??

    • @ParalyzedLiving
      @ParalyzedLiving  7 лет назад

      The velcro is usually only noisy at first until it really settles in after moving around a little. Overall, it's a non-issue for me but I do have the occasional time when it makes noise. If it's not way too tight I'm usually good.

    I still can't believe someone thinks that you're pretending. After all these videos, equipment, etc...like for what reason would someone put in so much time and effort just to make an elaborate fake channel for a niche audience. It boggles the mind at some people's stupidity or need to be a troll.

      Exactly! Like I do this for fun or something. I’d much rather walk. Lol

    First, you´re hot lol second, I use binders aswell but because of a genetic tissue disorder my spine gets wonkier and the organs drop. Can´t work on core stabiity as my vertebrae and joints slip around like a frikking jenga game lol a full n back brace won´t work for me, et the binders but still not stable enough to sit for longer then a few minutes. I want to ask my doctors for a wheelchair, yet can´t sit for long. Is there a way that stabiliues even more? Hate to being homebound.
