Oh Emma, how lovely if Einstein does land on your hand! I've had one land on mine once and it was the most beautiful experience, be brave! To have a wild bird trust you that much is rare 😊 Enjoy it x
🐦 I would rest your hand on top of the bird box ‘see-saw’ rather than hover your hand in the air. Helps keep you stable. I’ve had a Robin eat from my hand when I did that!
Make friends with the crows - they remember kindness and unkindness. Also they clear up all the dead animals. Love your advice about dealing with one bit of your plot at a time - going to start putting that into practice on my overgrown garden so thank you.
Im with you on the woodchip joy 🥰 it’s good for the soul As someone has said please consider a ‘buy me a coffee’/ patreon etc. You work so hard and you are a pleasure to watch, I’d happily chip in so that you can buy stuff for your plots
What a difference! It is beautiful, Emma. Little bites are easier than trying to do the whole thing all at once. I hate spending money sometimes too, but if it makes it easier, brings you satisfaction, then go for it. You work so hard on your allotment. You deserve things to help diminish the overwhelm.
Emm”s you are such a beautiful creature and very unique 🎉I’ve just ordered your amazing book! You inspire me every day to get out in my garden on my bad days which gets harder as I’ve been diagnosed with a nasty illness 😢keep going and listen to your inner self xxx
I too find Emma inspiring and she reminds me of myself in some ways. I don’t have any friends or family that are interested at all in gardening so it’s lovely coming here to Emma’s channel. I don’t have an allotment, I physically couldn’t manage, but im doing all I can in my garden (to many it looks a mess I’m sure, but it’s great for the birds, bees 🐝 and butterflies 🦋 and bugs in general) sorry to read you’ve bee. diagnosed with something nasty. Love and strength to you. Will you be taking part in the Big Garden Birdwatch this year? 💚
The wood chip really does make everything look lovely. On the chance you do get a wood chip delivery in the future, if you open the bags at the top, you could save them to fill with chip to store. Then you can have chip immediately and more for later use.
Hey Emma those raised beds are fab. Worth the money and last well when treated. I have 3 and they're going strong after 3 years of use. Happy growing in them. Love your channel. Thanks for all your hard work.. and I'm thoroughly enjoying your allotment planner. Well done ❤
I’ll be off to get clippings tomorrow they look great . My book arrived this week I’m loving it simple and straight forward perfect for me , also the photo’s and diagrams makes a lovely cheerful book 👍Congratulations I hope it does well .
My little cat friend doesn’t normally bat an eyelid at the TV. But his eyes shoot open and he is mesmerised when I put your videos on and he hears you ! He has just sat through an entire vlog 😂 Einstein is of particular interest 😂 I think your voice and the sounds of your plot remind him of being in the garden with me ❤
Hi Emma, the woodchip looks lovely. You dont need to use the membrane before you put it down - if you have spare brown cardboard (ask at supermarkets and corner shops), lay that down on top of the weeds in a thick layer. Then put down a thick layer of wood chip. The reason why you're getting more mud on your paths even when you keep weeding them is because bark chip decomposes over time and becomes earth again. I have found that just putting down cardboard and then a really thick layer of bark chip supresses pretty much all the weeds and you'll only need to top up the bark chip again in the third year (if you do a really nice thick layer). It is costly initially, but it saves you so much time in the long run and looks tidy all year.
Ah that’s great advice thanks. I did try using cardboard to line the pathways at the back but grass grew through it. Maybe I didn’t use a thick enough layer? x
Be brave Emma, please let Einstein land on your hand. It's such a magical experience, I am so envious. I have a Robin in my garden every day, but it's proper wild, won't come near me. Einstein is starting to trust you. Just stand up straight, and stand still and enjoy, he wont hurt you.❤
@@madeleineowen8284 My late Step-Mum-in-Law told me robins like cheddar cheese - she used to give her Robin visitors a few bits of finely grated cheddar.
Hi Emma, I am definitely in agreement and will be getting some nice new wood chip for my plot due to lack of delivery from council. Really freshened the plot up and makes you feel better, plus it will pay off in the long run with helping keep the plot nicer. I've got those B&Q beds too. You can actually connect 2 beds together to make an even bigger bed if you want and then use the spare pieces to make a smaller square bed if you have a small space somewhere. Just be aware they have to have the same corner fittings to lock together (count the number of metal "groves" in corner pieces). It was my sons idea when we assembled them in 2023 when the beds looked a bit small on my plot. Originally we were going to place 2 beds back to back, but by my son suggested by connecting 2 beds you can use the spares to make a new bed. 4 big beds connect to make 2 even bigger beds, plus the 4 spare sides make 1 smaller square. Hope that makes sense. They are awkward to move due to the corner pieces and size if you want to move, but mine are still good.
I got a load of pallet collars (as they are called) for £6 each, exactly the same size as yours, I looked on Facebook marketplace for them locally. Love your videos ❤

Hi Emma, I’ve just been watching on RUclips how to feed a robin from the hand and other wildlife birds. It’s suggested that dried mealworms should be hydrated early spring as the male takes them back to feed the female and fledglings, the fledglings can’t drink so by hydrating it’s easier for them to digest. Plot looking great keep up the good work 👍🏻

It stinks having to buy in wood chip in plastic bags doesn't it. I'm in the same boat here in rural Arkansas. I've been signed up for Chip Drop for YEARS, but apparently none of the arborists are. I've bought bags of wood chip and bags of wood shavings in the past, but the cost does add up when you have lots of paths to cover (and you end up with lots of plastic waste). I finally bought a small electric wood chipper and have been shredding little limbs from invasive privet (it actually makes pretty good wood chips so it's not absolutely worthless), but you don't have that option since you don't have electricity at your plot. @LynneSmith-x6v But, you don't have to give to it. It's a nice option for those people who WANT to donate. As long as the creator isn't constantly asking, I don't see the harm.
@@LynneSmith-x6v she doesn't earn anything from the book, if you are a regular watcher you know that. And it doesn't harm anyone the button buy me a coffee, if we help her she will make more content for us
How is the tap situation going?? Did I miss your solution?
Never cross a crow Emma they have excellent memories and are very intelligent, they can recognise and remember human faces and may hold a grudge , potentially leading to harrasment and mob attacks if you upset them 😟
They are my absolute FAVOURITE of all birds. 😍😍😍
Wonder if there is an alternative to wood chip. Like, bags of stones. Or maybe sand .Or lots of stepping stones .
Have you tried the Homebase closing down sale for woodchip?
Also much cheaper in Aldi and Lidl but might not be in stock for a few more weeks.
That’s a great idea, no I haven’t! I’ll take a look, thanks x
Hi Emma, why not create a narrow raised bed by your shed on your first plot? I keeps things (the grass edge) tidy, gives you more growing space - maybe for flowers to pretty things up even more. Sweetpeas might be an ides, it creates a bit of a hide-away 🙂
Do you mean as a boundary? I love that idea! x
@@emmasallotmentdiaries yes 🙂, you could even use your old lilac strawberry beds from pallets and dig them deeper into the ground maybe.🍀🍀🌷🌷
Have you thought about eating the new baby stinging nettles? basically a super food.
Good morning Emma or all you lovely gardeners, could you kindly give me the name of the pegs that were used to pin the plastic down and the supplier, thank you.
I budget my allotment spending thus.....how much is gym membership monthly? An equally good investment!
Emma, Einsteins feeding perch - why don’t you just take the plank off and let him eat from the stump.
Yes! You also can fix the plank.. 😊
That’s a good idea actually 😂😂
👌👌👌
Any signed copies of your book love?
Not yet but I’ll see! x
@@emmasallotmentdiariesOoh, I'd love that for next year!
Awe Einstein needs a new feeder platform.
Speaking of borders - doesn't the grass inbetween your existing fence and your beds drive you bonkers?? Isn't that keep crawling into your beds as well??
Yes it does!! I’ll be removing it properly this year! x
2 minutes in and Einstein has to attack the camera i hope one day he will eat from your hand
Haha! I know! He’s determined to destroy my camera! 😂
❤❤❤
Hi Emma Have you not realised that Einstein knows to knock the camera over when your doing your intro to get you to feed him? 🦊
He’s a smart birdy he really is! 😂
@@emmasallotmentdiariesHe was SO going to land in your hand!
£50 for wood chip at that price the local tree surgeon would definitely have found you some good stuff
I’ll email around and see x

Your weeding would be easier if you used a hand fork when you are crouching near the ground…just saying!
Make friends with the spiders, if you don’t bother them they won’t bother you.
Fantastisch Good work Emmas you the best te moostuin onkruid wieden 🌿🌾🥤👍🧤🌤🦺🧹
