Looking at the effects, I am actually quite impressed by what they were able to make with what must have clearly been limited resources. I am not surprised to hear that they went on to bigger things.
Similarly, Oscar winning cinematographers Laszlo Kovacs and Vilmos Szigmond got their starts working on the lowest of low budget shlock (Arch Hall Jr.'s The Sadist for one ...)
As counterintuitive as it sounds, getting killed in your own vanity project is such a power move. You don't try to convice others you're the best (coughSifuSeagalcough), you KNOW this for a fact, so you don't give a shit about looking cool, or badass.
He definitely tries to look cool and badass, particularly in Empire of the Dark, but he's trying to tell a story too. Most of these guys forget the story part.
He had every reason to be proud. Not anyone could have names like Sid Haig, Forrest J Ackerman (over 70 years he was one of science fiction's staunchest spokesmen and promoters and a literary agent for Ray Bradbury, Isaac Asimov, A.E. Van Vogt, Curt Siodmak, and L. Ron Hubbard) and veteran actor Dick Miller (who works with legendary Roger Corman and his pupils Joe Dante, James Cameron, and Martin Scorsese)listed among actors in his project.
Fred Olen Ray's son, also named Chris, appeared in several of his films as a child, and as an adult directed some. The F.O. Ray filmography is a well you guys could draw from for YEARS. Start with The Phantom Empire or The Alien Dead.
The Curator is played by Forrest(Forry) J. Ackerman, who was the creator and publisher of Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine. Essentially the first genre publication that inspired Starlog and Fangoria

Even for a vanity project you have to respect the man for being willing to kill his character, and during the climax of the movie, and it was following the usual vanity trait of killing everyone at the end and just him surviving, but no even for a vanity project the man still said "I'm not Steven Seagal".
@order66 John is on a whole other level, when you go as far as making the one song in the entire movie an original song by you, yeah this makes Seagal look like an extra, and Seagal had a band and even he didn’t put them in a movie.
Another interesting trivia, the girl who plays Sarah the love interest who gets murdered was the long time girlfriend of Andy Kauffman the comedian, and was played by Courtney Love in the Jimmy Carey biography
Andy died in May of 1984 and he and Lynne met on the set of his 1983 short film "My Breakfast with Blassie," so not quite "long time." Her brother, Johnny Legend, co-created and co-directed the film.

That's probably why it hasn't dropped into public domain like a bunch of other movies that might have shown up on Vinegar Syndrome. Can't believe he only died just last month. This one was a lot of fun. The movie itself seemed fine, maybe not the most over-the-top action throughout, but your reactions were, for me, the most entertaining thing. Love how Jason & Erin jumped ALL OVER Brian for his "at least he doesn't make himself invincible" line, only for him to be redeemed at the end. Erin flubbing "legit" and giving us "legoot"(t-shirt), Brian staying true to his gimmick & taking a bathroom break during the most exciting part... Classic Brian. Seeing Sid at the height of his powers is always a treat. Randomly cutting Erin off at the very end of the vid... I'll assume that was you, Jason. You know, cuz you don't listen to her anyway.😉😁 Also, Erin killed it with that Magic Spoon ad. Some nice editing there. I've never really considered trying Magic Spoon because I'm not at all a health guy, but the way she described the nostalgic quality of it actually piqued my interest in giving it a go. Well done.

Look for example Scott Kelly, he was one of the most active NASA astronaut and he's pretty puffy. 9:58 - The Imperial March is strangely very similar to a short music intro of an episode of a very old TV show from the '60. Nobody is brave enough to point fingers against John Williams but when you listen to it, it's hard not to have doubts (you can listen to the song "Your Woman" by White Town to have an idea). Sooo, from that I learned not to discard anything as an influence however unlikely that is (though this movie is terribly unlikely).
Interestingly, Sid Haig's character in "The Devil's Rejects" was named Cutter. Was this an Easter Egg by Rob Zombie? Maybe... The road at the end was similar to the road at the end of the Terminator.
I think you would enjoy a martial arts movie called Kill or Be Killed, which stars South African martial artist James Ryan as Steve Hunt as he takes on a Nazi who lives in a Karate Castle in the middle of the South African desert where he plays host to a karate tournament against his Japanese rival who is named and I kid you not... Mr. Miyagi. There is also a dwarf named Chico who is in fact, the man. The film also has a sequel titled Kill and Kill Again which is the cheapest Enter the Dragon ripoff you've ever seen. Characters from Kill or be Killed appear as different characters, including the main character who is now named Steve Chase (Hunt and Chase, get it?), but Chico does not return and none of the team that the hero spends a good chunk of screen time assembling ever actually does anything. There is also a little casual racism thrown in for good measure.
Blood Feast 1963 is the only film I remember from college where a friend of mine was into sbig films. Its the Citizen Kane of shit movies. I still remember lines from it, the awful yet amazing score, the insane plot, the names of the brutally acted characters. Really memorable crapfest that I think you would enjoy

Interestingly, Sid Haig's character in "The Devil's Rejects" was named Cutter. Was this an Easter Egg by Rob Zombie? Maybe... The road at the end was similar to the road at the end of the Terminator.
I think you would enjoy a martial arts movie called Kill or Be Killed, which stars South African martial artist James Ryan as Steve Hunt as he takes on a Nazi who lives in a Karate Castle in the middle of the South African desert where he plays host to a karate tournament against his Japanese rival who is named and I kid you not... Mr. Miyagi. There is also a dwarf named Chico who is in fact, the man. The film also has a sequel titled Kill and Kill Again which is the cheapest Enter the Dragon ripoff you've ever seen. Characters from Kill or be Killed appear as different characters, including the main character who is now named Steve Chase (Hunt and Chase, get it?), but Chico does not return and none of the team that the hero spends a good chunk of screen time assembling ever actually does anything. There is also a little casual racism thrown in for good measure.
I believe I have copies of those. I'll move them up the list.

Blood Feast 1963 is the only film I remember from college where a friend of mine was into sbig films. Its the Citizen Kane of shit movies. I still remember lines from it, the awful yet amazing score, the insane plot, the names of the brutally acted characters. Really memorable crapfest that I think you would enjoy
