The fact the witch shows herself with a mask representing Rangda,the queen of leyaks, means she wasn't just an ordinary witch. During the night the Leyak can detach their heads and entrails from their bodies to fly around, searching for pregnant women to suck the blood off their child. The movie is accurate to the folklore, is the folklore that is weird

I saw it reviewed on another YT channel and they showed some of the other scenes and boy, does it get pretty crazy. The problem is as they say though. It is a boring slog for 97% of the movie and only "good" for 3%.

I love movies about weird folk-creatures from around the world. Japan is chock-full of all sorts of strange spirits and creatures, but the Penanggalan/Leyak from the Malaysian/Indonesian islands to be my favourite. Some incredible artwork depicting it. I especially love seeing it in all its practical effects glory.

I was so pissed about what they did with Soundwave, he was always my favorite Transformer back in the day.

The English voice dub of the witch character reminds me a lot of the English voice dub of the witch character in the 1964 Soviet Film "Jack Frost". At which was brought to the attention of western audiences when it was covered famously/infamously by MST3K in 1997.
I've been waiting for this one! No one's life experience can be called complete without witnessing, in it's full astounding glory, the spectacle of the baby eating, blood sucking, flying head and guts vampire monster.....the Penanggalan! And the pig bewbs.
That the acting is wooden, the original telling the lines is probably wooden, then the dubbing is absolutely wooden too, while all this madness happens, making everything boring just adds to the funny-factor. Btw, that intestine+head is a legit monster there. Like the jumping vampires in the east.

How did I not know this was the same director as Lady Terminator?? It kinda makes sense in retrospect I guess I love this movie, it’s so bizarre but it really goes for it. And I can follow the story which is surprising
@@JasonBrant I suppose you could say so. It was a movie cobbled together by three different directors. Each one directed one third of the movie. It was all centered around one plot though, and from what I recall it isn't like they played out where one part began and ended and you could tell that one part of the movie was different from the rest. It is kind of hard to describe because it melted part of my brain. I also have recommended Rubber in the past. A movie about a sentient tire with telekinetic powers. Yeah, you read that right. And then for pure schlock that needs to be seen to be believed it is a thing: Attack of the Killer Donuts. That movie makes Birdemic 3 look like a masterpiece.

Its movies like this that make you realize we in the West have a fairly boring set of cultural mythology and legends... don't get me wrong, I love Celtic and Germanic mythology since im of such ancestry (and some of its nuts)... but some of the Southeast Asian and Indian mythology is next level WTF'ery. I think the tooth picks in the neck is basically, if her head doesn't attach by morning she dies or is trapped in the other form and will eventually die, its like how Vampires in the West die from exposure to sunlight and have to sleep in a coffin filled with the dirt from their grave and people would stick sickles or blades around the neck of a corpse in a coffin so that if it woke up it would cut its head off and be destroyed etc. There needs to be more mythology from those regions in movies and TV personally... so much untapped potential. "I would like to think so"... me and Erin basically shared the exact same 'what' face at the exact same time...
There was a Creepshow episode with the floating head and organs creature so it was either a tribute to this movie or there is an actual legend both movie and episode used.
