Best north indian classical violinist ever...God Bless you...I have been listening your beautiful violin since long & I place you on ranking 1st till now, after litsening M.S.Gopalkrishnan , D.K.Datar , N.Rajam etc.
Blessed are the ones to enjoy the music blessed are the ones who play the music as they are close to Lord. This performance will take us closer to lord and with a peaceful mind.
The peace and joy in Kala Ramnath's face while playing the voilin is just so serene... if saraswati maa was to take reincarnation as a musician, she would look like her..
Thanks a ton for this feast Pieter. She is surely the worthy successor of her illustrious aunt Dr. N. Rajam, the greatest living Hindustani Violinist in the world.
Heard about this wonderful musician through a BBC Radio series on music of the Commonwealth - thanks for posting this. Amazing how Hindustani classical music can embrace western instruments. Shahbash.
There is nothing to say regards her way of playing and the way of playing . Its long time that I have not had an opportunity to listen to some one who plays so nicely . She has a nice company with her too. Wish them all a good luck . Jasi Magon
I would love to hear a 'duo' by Kala w/ her aunt N. Rajam, Or even a 'trio' by Kala Rajam and Sangeeta (Rajam's daughter). That would be divine indeed! //GOPAL//
Indian classical music is taught at the Rotterdam World Music Academy, teachers over there can tell you where to get harmonium lessons in your neighbourhood. Try to contact them via dev.codarts.nl/
PieterdeRooijHolland, I love this video, I'm wondering whether I could download this video and share it to my musical friends in China or not? They can't see it there, the governments still block this site for some political reason, but it also blocked many many beautiful music on youtube.
Hello Henry, yes, it's a pity RUclips is still blocked in China. Politics really have to change over there. However, I won't allow you or anyone else to download my production. Sorry, no permission.
Thanks, Pieter, I do understand, I have sent the link to my friend, they said they have some softwares could see it, but very slow. Actually, I'm a musician, my first visited country was the Netherlands, I was living in Leiden more than six months. If you are reserch world music, you may know my friend Frank Kouwenhoven, the funder of European Foundation for Chinese Music Research. Thanks for your quickly reply. Henry
Henry Wang Henry, thanks for understanding. Yes, I know Frank and I'm well aware of his immense contributions in the field of Chinese music research and his promotion of Chinese music via CHIME.
PieterdeRooijHolland There are several (free) programs that allow anyone to download your vid(s) without asking you for permission. You can ofc get angry with that, but you could also use it as an opportunity to practise generosity and drop being possesive and clinging to I-me -MINE. And to realize that saying 'no' might make you feel great and powerful in the moment but that saying 'yes' feels so much better in the long run. (Fx by knowing that you helped people in China to hear this magnificent music)
*Bodhi heeren, Such strange times! Stealing unprotected web property has become so universal that we are all guilty and couldn't care less! But folks like you really cross the line when you perversely lecture property owners (really the musicians) that they should practice generosity. God, it is sickening to see it in writing. Let us all pray that the promise of "micro-payments" comes through and this perversion disappears.*
I took it as Multani, then recalled there is a huge similarity between Multani and Madhuwanti, just a difference of Komal Rishav and Dhaivat I think Multani uses komal (flat) Dh and Re in the descent instead of the shuddha (natural) Re/ Dh used in Madhuvanti. In addition to using different pitches of Re and Dh, Multani intones them subliminally, while Madhuvanti deploys them explicitly, and often even emphatically.
Great rendition of Madhuwanti, Puriya and Des by Kala Ramnath. I am listening to her music for the first time. I wish she blesses younger generation to continue such quality music
Neel Kulkarni as you probably already know Kala was first groomed by her grandfather and by her aunt (yes indeed) N. Rajam. Later her foremost guru became Pandit Jasraj of the Mewati gharana.
she is not associted with rajam.n.pure ego politics..not blaming anybody.they are closly related by blood but not related in realty.may be now i wish and hope
There is no such thing as a western instrument or western music. Pythagorous (considered the father of western music) came to India to learn mathematics and music and introduced the basics of music theory and math in west. He learned the Vagabhatta theorum(by Vagabhatta who lived 500 years before him in India) known as the Pythagorous theorum in the west. He learned music from Orpheus(greek name for an Indian Brahmin). The Orphic way(vegetarianism) was alo introduced to the west from India. Western music is just a small branch of Indian music.
Though there is truth in what you are saying, this is an ugly way of saying it, as if to suggest western people made no contributions to music, which is not the case.
Yeah but the Europeans took Eastern music and developed a new style which eventually becomes baroque music and is definitely it's own new style of music. Then Bach combined German and Italian baroque and really kicked off what we can call Western music. Baroque/Bach use of chord progressions is very different from the Indian style of using a drone and staying in one key and using 1 raga or scale. Bach and Vivaldi really developed using chord progressions. Usually by the 2nd or 3rd measure Bach is already onto the V or IV chord and getting ready to jump to a parallel key. Very different approach. Then from the Romantic era up to modern serialism the chord progression/12 tone system was pushed to it's limits. Then jazz which has elements of baroque (Bach lines and chord progressions moving in 4ths) and post-romantic (using lots of upper structure notes or tensions like Debussy) and added more emphasis on improvisation over quickly moving chord progressions. If you took a classical Indian player and asked them to improvise over Giant Steps or even Stella it would be a disaster. It's an entirely new skillset that's required. I love all forms of Indian classical, northern and southern but calling Western music a subset of Indian is silly. Then you could say Indian music is a subset of Sumerian music which is a subset of African tribal music which is a subset of early nomadic Homo-Sapiens banging sticks on stuff to make beats and singing melodies. If our forebearer species H. Heidelbergensis had any music then we can keep going......
like a goddess you played on the violin, now I know how it sounds when a goddess plays
It touches my sole in ways that I can not explain and I'm not known for being without the right words a the right time. Till now. Speechless!

cultural imperialism is one hell of a drug my friend (:
